Kendrick Lamar Matches Drake's Showing With A New No. 1 Smash
Kendrick Lamar has been dominating the Billboard charts and breaking records for many years, but the past 12 months have been especially huge for the rapper. After scoring a career-defining win with the Drake diss track 'Not Like Us,' he released his latest album GNX late in 2024, and that set has continued to churn out hit after hit after hit.
The rapper makes history and joins several hip-hop powerhouses this week as he earns another No. 1 on one of Billboard's radio rankings, as his successful streak continues with another huge smash.
Lamar earns a brand new No. 1 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart this week thanks to his collaboration with SZA, '30 for 30.' The tune jumps from No. 5 to the summit, becoming his latest hit to perform well at radio.
As '30 for 30' rises to the top, it replaces 'TV Off,' another Lamar-led cut. That track, a duet with Lefty Gunplay from GNX, slips from No. 1 this week.
Before 'TV Off,' the chart was ruled by 'Luther,' another collaboration between Lamar and SZA. That means the rapper has now replaced himself at No. 1 not once, but twice in a row.
With '30 for 30' now in charge, Lamar claims an incredibly rare feat: three back-to-back-to-back leaders on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. That kind of uninterrupted run at No. 1 is uncommon on any Billboard tally, but especially on this genre-focused airplay ranking.
According to Billboard, Lamar is just the fourth artist to manage three successive No. 1 hits on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with no gap in between.
He joins an elite club of rappers who have pulled this off. 50 Cent was the first, scoring the trifecta with 'Candy Shop' featuring Olivia and two collaborative efforts with The Game—'How We Do' and 'Hate It or Love It.'
Lil Wayne followed, thanks to his solo smash 'How to Love' and featured turns on Kelly Rowland's 'Motivation' and DJ Khaled's 'I'm On One.'
Then came Drake, who saw 'God's Plan' and 'Nice For What' hit No. 1 consecutively before appearing on BlocBoy JB's 'Look Alive,' which also took over the top spot. Now, Lamar joins their ranks.
'30 for 30' is just the latest radio smash in Lamar's discography. The rapper has now scored nine No. 1 hits on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart throughout his career. That list includes solo efforts and collaborative tracks alike. He's also landed a total of 17 top 10s, with nearly half of his 36 total appearances on the tally making it into the uppermost tier.
Meanwhile, SZA adds another leader to her growing catalog. The singer has racked up four No. 1s on this chart. Two of her leaders resulted from working with Lamar, and the two will surely perform them all during their upcoming joint tour.

Jamie Foxx Has One Question For Sean Combs in Midst of N.Y. Racketeering Trial: ‘Why You So Nasty, Diddy?'
Jamie Foxx is not pulling punches when it comes to his thoughts on the Sean 'Diddy' Combs' New York sex trafficking and racketeering trial. During a recent appearance at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, the actor/singer lashed out at the disgraced former music mogul who he once honored at Diddy's 2008 Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony. 'Diddy is fu–in' crazy, huh?' Foxx said in footage shared by Urban Hollywood. 'I don't know if he is going to jail, but he is a nasty motherf–er. Am I right? Especially for us… white people like, 'It's cool,' but for Black people… that was our hero. All that g–damn baby oil, boy! Why you so nasty, Diddy?' When officers raided Combs' homes in Los Angeles and Miami last March prosecutors said they found drugs as well as more than 1,000 bottles of lubricant and baby oil. More from Billboard 50 Cent Keeps His Promise by Posting the 'Really Bad' Things Diddy Has Said About Donald Trump Jessie J Reveals 'Early Breast Cancer' Diagnosis: 'Cancer Sucks in Any Form' Big Thief Announce New Album, 'Double Infinity' The comments from Foxx about the shocking testimony in the Combs trial in reference to the rapper's marathon 'Freak Off' sex parties is relevant because in 2023 rumors circulated that Combs allegedly poisoned Foxx, leading to the actor's hospitalization for what was later confirmed to be a stroke. Foxx opened up about the rumors surrounding his mystery illness last month in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, shooting down the allegations that Diddy tried to have him killed via poisoning. 'I'm in f—ing perfect shape. [I saw things like,] 'Puffy tried to kill me.' No, Puffy didn't try to kill me. When they said I was a clone, that made me flip,' Foxx said. 'I'm sitting in the hospital bed, like, 'These b—h-a– motherf—ers are trying to clone me.'' While a spokesperson for Combs did not reply to Billboard's request for a comment on the allegations, his team has repeatedly said the rumor was false and unfounded. Foxx also addressed the allegations in his What Had Happened Was… Netflix special in December, in which he said, 'The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me, that's what the internet was saying. I know what you thinking, 'Diddy?' Hell no, I left them parties early. I was out by 9. 'Something don't look right… it looks slippery in here!' The Combs trial is in its fourth week and on Wednesday (June 4) Bryana Bongolan, a friend of Diddy's ex, prosecution star witness Cassie Ventura, alleged that Diddy dangled her over a 17th-floor apartment balcony in 2016 before shoving her into the balcony's furniture. Combs is facing five criminal counts of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution, charges that could land him in prison for the rest of his life; Combs has denied the allegations against him. Damian Lazarus' Day Zero Party to Debut in Brazil in 2026
Damian Lazarus is bringing his longstanding Day Zero party to Brazil in 2026. The event will happen Jan. 3 in São Miguel dos Milagres, Brazil, located on the country's northern coast in the state of Alagoas. Details regarding the lineup will be announced in the coming months. Bookings will presumably fuse the rich musical heritage of the country, a major hotbed for electronic music, with the global house and techno artists that Day Zero has long booked. 'This region — rich in mysticism, natural beauty and cultural depth — offers both a spectacular setting and the infrastructure to welcome our global community,' the producer continues. 'We're also proud to be collaborating with some of Brazil's most experienced and respected event partners, whose vision and expertise have shaped many of the country's most iconic gatherings. 2026 is going to be a very special year for Day Zero as we embark on incredible new adventures.' Being produced in partnership with Brazil's Entourage Live, Plus Network, Tamo Junto, Gaz Events and BOMA, the Brazil edition of Day Zero marks the party's latest expansion, with Lazarus bringing the event to a site adjacent to Israel's Masada National Park in 2019. (Subsequent editions of the Israeli event were cancelled amid the pandemic and ongoing supply chain and production cost issues.) Day Zero will also happen in its original home of Tulum in 2026. This original Day Zero edition of Day Zero began in the Mexican resort town in 2012, with Lazarus and his team then launching it to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar. The party has taken place in the jungle near Tulum nearly every year since (taking off 2018 and 2021) with the music and ceremonial-oriented activities going from sunset to sunrise. ABBA‘s Björn Ulvaeus Is Working on Musical Using AI: ‘Such a Great Tool'
ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus is working on a new musical using artificial intelligence. According to Variety, during a talk at SXSW London on Wednesday (June 4), the 80-year old Swedish pop legend said he's tapping into AI because he believes it is an excellent creative tool. 'Right now I'm writing a musical, assisted by AI,' Ulvaeus said, noting that he's about three-quarters of the way through the creative process on the unnamed project, the follow-up to the hugely successful pop quartet's avatar stage show, Voyage. More from Billboard Jessie J Reveals 'Early Breast Cancer' Diagnosis: 'Cancer Sucks in Any Form' Big Thief Announce New Album, 'Double Infinity' Neil Young Invites Donald Trump to Summer Tour 'If There Is Not Martial Law by Then' 'It's fantastic. It is such a great tool,' Ulvaeus raved of AI. 'It is like having another songwriter in the room with a huge reference frame. It is really an extension of your mind. You have access to things that you didn't think of before.' Unlike many in the industry who fear that AI is an existential threat to their existence and the traditional creative process, Ulvaeus is aware of the bugs in the system, which he said have helped him to merge AI with his already formidable songwriting skills. 'It's lousy at [writing a whole song]' and 'very bad at lyrics,' he said about his AI helpmate, which has allowed him to navigate through some creative dead-ends. 'You can prompt a lyric you have written about something, and you're stuck maybe, and you want this song to be in a certain style,' he said. 'You can ask it, how would you extend? Where would you go from here? It usually comes out with garbage, but sometimes there is something in it that gives you another idea.' Ulvaeus is part of an eclectic lineup for 2025 SXSW London, whose lineup includes Erykah Badu (as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown), Tems, Mabel, Alice Glass and many more. Penske Media Corporation (which also owns Billboard) and the film and production company MRC invested in SXSW in 2021 following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; two years later, Penske took majority ownership of SXSW. The AI project, whose ultimate form has not yet been announced, is part of Ulvaeus' ongoing partnership with Pophouse Entertainment, the company behind the ABBA Voyage production. The Voyage virtual residency opened in London in May 2022 and is slated to run through January 2026. The show is a combination of 10 live performers and digital avatars of the four ABBA members, who have not performed live since their split in December 1982; the group, which also features Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, released their first album in 40 years, Voyage, in November 2021. Though Ulvaeus is happy to use AI in the creative process, he is also adamant about fighting for artists' rights in the rapidly evolving digital age. 'These AI models wouldn't exist without the songs that we wrote,' he said.
