A first look at Aman Resort's new Saudi Arabia hotel, Amansamar
The new property, known as Amansamar, is currently under construction in the Wadi Safar development, which is slated to reimagine the area into an international luxury destination.
Aman's property will feature an 80-room hotel, which will promote 'peace and privacy' as well as a sense of 'calm' through the brand's signature minimalist design led by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston Architects.
The design of the property will include natural materials, subtle patterns and metallic accents to reflect the desert landscape.
Alongside the hotel, Aman is also constructing a series of residences, which will be comprised of luxury villas and private estates, creating a new desert community hidden amongst the wadis.
The brand already offers residences across Dubai, the Maldives, the United States and other countries, permanent homes where owners can fully immerse themselves in the brand's lifestyle offering.
Amansamar's amenities will be available to both guests and residents, such as the Aman Spa with its signature hammam and banya (bath) houses and hydrotherapy facilities.
Among other facilities, there will be a racquet club, multiple pools and a kids' club, while in the nearby Wadi Safar development, guests will be close to the Royal Signature Golf Course, as well as polo and equestrian facilities.
Dining venues are also under construction on the site, although what they will offer is yet to be revealed.
Amansamar is being constructed alongside other projects across Saudi Arabia, including Janu Diriyah, a hotel that will serve as a base to explore the Unesco World Heritage Site of At-Turaif, a maze of 15th-century palaces.
Another destination, Aman AlUla, is also under development near the ancient oasis city of the same name.
The ultra-luxury brand is currently expanding its Middle East portfolio, with openings also coming soon in Dubai set on the Jumeirah Peninsula.
Aman was founded in 1988 and launched its first property in Phuket, Thailand, and since then has launched 36 hotels, resorts and branded residences around the world.

Japan's defence minister visits Turkey for talks on defence cooperation, drones
ANKARA, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Japan's defence minister will hold talks in Turkey on Tuesday on defence industry cooperation, including the possible supply of Turkish-made drones, as Tokyo expands the role of unmanned systems in its armed forces, a diplomatic source said. Gen Nakatani is the first Japanese defence minister to make such an official trip to Turkey, a NATO member country that is keen to expand its economic and other ties beyond Europe and the Middle East. Turkey and Japan are both U.S. allies. Gen and Turkey's Defence Minister Yasar Guler are expected to "discuss ways to expand cooperation on defence equipment and technology and exchange views on regional developments", the diplomatic source in Ankara said. They also aim to increase contacts between the Turkish Armed Forces and Japan's Self-Defense Forces at unit level, the source added. Gem is also scheduled to visit Istanbul on Wednesday. Turkish and Japanese defence ministries did not immediately respond to requests for comment. During the visit, Nakatani will tour Turkish defence companies and facilities including Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS), navy shipyards and drone maker Baykar, an industry source said. Turkey-backed firms have supplied drones to several countries, including Ukraine, while Japan is preparing to expand the use of unmanned aerial vehicles across its ground, air and naval forces. Japan is considering Turkish drones among potential options as part of this effort, the diplomatic source said. Turkey and Japan have both condemned Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, though Ankara has maintained cordial relations with Moscow and has not joined Western economic sanctions against it. Gem's visit to Turkey is part of a regional tour from August 17–22 that also includes stops in Djibouti and Jordan.

Exclusive: Egypt agrees to buy at least 200,000 tons of French wheat, state buyer says
CAIRO/DUBAI, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Egypt's state grains buyer Future of Egypt has agreed to buy at least 200,000 metric tons of French wheat in recent private deals with exporters, plus several 30,000-ton cargoes of wheat from Ukraine and Romania, it told Reuters on Monday. The North African nation is one of the world's top wheat importers. On average, state agencies bring in about 5 million tons of its total wheat imports of more than 12 million tons. The military-linked Future of Egypt, or Mostakbal Misr, took over international grain purchases from the decades-old General Authority for Supply Commodities in December, marking a significant shift in the country's food procurement strategy. GASC, a civilian agency under the supply ministry, traditionally imported wheat and vegetable oils through international tenders. FoE, by contrast, has made private deals with mostly local importers. Traders said that FoE may have booked as many as seven large panamax vessels of French wheat, or more than 400,000 tons, in the past two weeks. That included at least one 63,000-ton vessel for September 10–20 shipment with payment via 270-day letters of credit, with other cargoes also understood to be for prompt shipment in the coming weeks, traders said. Wheat is used to produce subsidised bread for more than two-thirds of the country's 108 million people, who are already struggling with high inflation and worsening living conditions. This makes wheat imports vital for the country, which failed to reach its 4 million-5 million ton target for domestic wheat purchases for the 2024/25 season which ended on Friday. Price estimates for the shipments were around $265 to $270 a ton cost and freight included, with some estimates of deals above $275 a ton c&f, they said. FoE declined to give details on prices or payment terms. "France's harvest is all but finished, and French supplies are available," one German trader said. "I think Egypt would prefer Russian, but Russian new-crop supplies are still stubbornly tight as farmers are not selling enough, especially 11% protein wheat." Since the transition, some agreements have reportedly been revised or delayed, with traders citing a less predictable process. Egypt's wheat imports dropped by 30% to 4.9 million tons in the first half of the year. These include imports by the state buyer as well as the private sector. FoE previously booked about 180,000 tons of French wheat in April, with loading initially expected in May and June. However, that was not completed until early August.
