Ella Toone reveals her grandmother died on morning of Euro 2025 final
Manchester United midfielder Toone lost her father Nick to prostate cancer last September – three days short of his 60th birthday.
'Even in the highest of highs life can hit you with the lowest of lows,' she posted on Instagram.
'My Nana Maz took her last breath on the morning of our Euro final. I have comfort in knowing she got to watch from the best seat in the house with Dad, her favourite person.'
Toone, who helped England win Euro 2022 and finish runners-up to Spain at the 2023 World Cup, started five of her country's six games in Switzerland.
'I'll miss you forever nan but I'll cherish the special memories we made, there isn't enough words I can possibly say to sum up the person you were, but I'm grateful you were my nanna. My football loving, crazy, funny Nan,' her post continued.
'All those years ago when you put a bet on at the bookies that I would play for England one day & on the day you leave us we bring it home again. You always knew it.'

England and Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating has been fined after being found guilty of driving without the correct tax just days after celebrating the Lionesses' Euro 2025 win Lionesses star Khiara Keating has been fined just days after she lifted the Euro 2025 title with England. Keating was part of the England squad that retained the Euros on Sunday by beating Spain on penalties in the final. However, just days after lifting the trophy in Basel, Keating was fined for not paying her car tax. On Wednesday, magistrates fined Keating £440 and ordered her to pay back duty of £79.17 and costs of £20 after she had been stopped for driving a Volkswagen Polo without the correct tax back in December. The 21-year-old did not attend Tameside Magistrates' court and the case was heard in her absence. Just a few weeks before the Euros began, Keating was cleared of drugs charges after Greater Manchester Police dropped them. Keating and her mother, Nicola, were charged last June with possession of the Class C drug nitrous oxide. They both pleaded not guilty and the charges were dropped in June. "I'm relieved the charges have been dropped — as I've always said, I did nothing wrong," Keating told the BBC. "It's been a difficult time, but I've always known the truth. Now I'm just looking forward to focusing fully on the Euros and spending time with my family." Keating did not play at the Euros with Hannah Hampton starring as first-choice goalkeeper, but she was an important part of the squad and was part of the jubilant celebrations that took place after they returned to the UK. A victory parade took place on Wednesday in front of more than 50,000 fans, with England captain Leah Williamson stating: "I'm holding back tears. I've been crying all down The Mall. "This is unbelievable, this is probably one of the best [things] we have ever been a part of, so thank you for coming out. "There are many ways to win a football match. And we repeatedly did it the hard way, but you can see how much we care about playing for England and how much we love it." Chloe Kelly added: "It feels so good to stand side by side with each and every one of these girls. It's so ******* special. It's incredible to stand here today with a winners' medal around our necks and I'm so proud to be English."

Man United set to host fans at Old Trafford for away game screenings in 'pub-like' venue - and this is how much it will cost
Manchester United are opening their doors to fans for away game screenings at Old Trafford this season. The new scheme, which will cost fans £25 per match, will see supporters unable to land away match tickets the chance to watch United from the international suite at Old Trafford. In what has been described by insiders as a pub-like atmosphere, the suite will be decked out with big screens showing the games, as well as a bar and hot food. The £25 admission includes one free drink as well as a portion of food in what sources feel represents a value-for-money experience. Season ticket holders now have the chance to buy tickets to stadium screenings of the first three away games of the season, at Fulham, at Manchester City, and at Brentford. United have one of the most in-demand away tickets and demand to go continues to be at an all-time high despite the disappointment of results on the pitch. Insiders hope the screenings can help ease the demand and prove popular, particularly given that more fan protests are planned against the club's ownership for the forthcoming season, as Mail Sport first revealed. There has been friction with supporters just recently after it emerged that bosses were considering bringing in a controversial personal seat licence system (PSL) should they move to a new stadium, which would see fans charged up to £4,000 simply for the right to buy a season ticket. That prospect triggered anger among large sections of the fanbase, who have already launched a series of protests against the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos group. Supporters' group The 1958 claim the introduction of PSLs – which United are adamant has only been explored hypothetically – would 'force out supporters who have followed the club for decades' and represent 'another step towards the Americanisation of our game'. While United would be the first Premier League club to utilise such a system they are commonplace in the NFL. They also say the fact that US-based CSL International raised the prospect with fans during a consultation over the stadium 'shows just how out of touch our club and owners have become'.
