EL DORADO COUNTY – A vintage fire engine will be going on one more assignment.
The fire truck, a GMC 630, dates back to the 1950s.
It was once used by the former California Disaster Office Fire and Rescue Division, and still bears that livery.
Wednesday morning, the vintage truck will be towed to the Mosquito Fire Protection District's Station 75 in Placerville.
With the truck being still in pretty good shape, expect to be an ambassador for the fire department.

Most Vacaville school zones drop to 15 mph speed limit as kids return to class

The back-to-school season is in full swing, and in Vacaville, officials are reminding people to slow down. Students within the Vacaville Unified School District went back to class on Thursday. Parents and anyone driving through school zones should be aware that the speed limits have changed for most schools across the city. "The goal of this is to reduce the likelihood and severity of any motor vehicle collisions in our school zones," said Lt. Chris Lechuga with the Vacaville Police Department. The city announced that in 19 school zones spanning Vacaville Unified, Travis Unified and three private schools, the speed limits were reduced from 25 mph to 15 mph. They say slower speeds result in safer streets and allow drivers more time to react and stop. The move is meant to protect students, their families and crossing guards. "We take a proactive approach to trying to identify safety issues before they happen," Lechuga said. Vacaville Police are out patrolling the school zones already, planning to ramp up speeding enforcement soon. "We've been pretty education-heavy for today, our first day of school. That will transition into more enforcement as the school year progresses," Lechuga said Thursday. "The adjustment from 25 to 15 mph in these school zones is going to be an adjustment for our motorists. We understand that. Our traffic and patrol units are out, very visible in our school zones to make sure we are providing education and enforcement but overall greater safety for our schools." Neighbors near Browns Valley Elementary say they are grateful for the school zone speed limit change, but they believe speeding drivers is not their biggest problem. Neighbor Jim McDaniel says instead, it's the congestion during peak times. People picking up and dropping off their kids every day are blocking fire hydrants, the crosswalks and even neighbors' driveways as they sit and wait. "It's just getting worse," McDaniel said. McDaniel has lived just feet from the school for nearly 30 years and his kids went to Browns Valley. "The traffic infrastructure here was never designed for this many students," McDaniel said. He said he worries every day that kids will get hit, saying there are not enough crosswalks and too many drivers are making illegal U-turns and blocking the road. "Traffic is backed up four, five blocks both directions. We can't even get to our home," McDaniel said. McDaniel says near Vacaville High, it is just as bad. He says he has contacted Vacaville's City Council and police chief but nothing has changed, other than the new speed limit restrictions. "They've known about this issue now for at least two years, and very little, if anything, has been done," McDaniel said. He's asking the city to find a quick fix outside of slowing down drivers for what he calls dangerous conditions. The speed zone changes serve as a reminder for everyone to slow down across the region as kids go back to school. Lechuga said that people often ask when exactly they're supposed to slow down. "A good way to think about it is anytime children are present near the roadway during drop-off and pickup times for schools and when a school crossing guard is present," Lechuga said. Will Uber's $300M Bet on Gravity Accelerate Lucid's Growth?

Lucid Group, Inc. LCID is actively pursuing partnerships that go beyond selling or licensing its leading EV technology. On July 17, the company announced a major collaboration with Uber Technologies, Inc. UBER and Nuro to develop a next-generation premium robotaxi for Uber's ride-hailing platform. The project combines Lucid Gravity's advanced software-defined vehicle architecture, Nuro's proven Level 4 autonomous driving system, and Uber's global network and fleet management to create a fully integrated service designed for comfort, safety and high-efficiency EV technology, which features an AV-capable sensor suite, redundant steering and braking and compact, high-power-density motors, aims to maximize uptime and lower per-mile operating costs. These factors are critical for robotaxi success. Its secure, software-defined architecture also supports third-party autonomy the deal, Uber will invest $300 million in Lucid, which is subject to regulatory approval, and deploy at least 20,000 Lucid Gravity vehicles with Nuro autonomy over six years in multiple global markets, starting late next year. While this marks Lucid's entry into the multitrillion-dollar robotaxi market, the company continues developing its own ADAS and autonomous driving capabilities, including a recently released hands-free driving update and ongoing AI training through a partnership with the University of Science and plans to monetize its technology via licensing and strategic alliances. The Uber deal reinforces market confidence in Lucid's advanced platform, and the automaker is in ongoing talks with additional partners. LCID carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) at present. Ford reveals a new race car inspired trim for its $325,000 Mustang

Ford Motor Co. has revealed a new trim it will offer on its most expensive and fastest Mustang — the Mustang GTD. The Dearborn-based automaker revealed the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim on Aug. 14 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California. Ford chose this location for the reveal because this new trim is race-inspired. Ford spokesman Brandon Turkus said the Mustang GTD has a starting price of $325,000. The company is not sharing pricing for specific trims or options, but the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim is expected to come to market in October. This Liquid Carbon trim will use lightweight carbon fiber, a technology that plays a critical role in the GTD's body and performance, the company said in a release. Ford noted that carbon fiber is preferred for race cars' bodies. The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon "skips a trip to the paint booth" Ford said by replacing paint with sheet metal in the doors. The bonded carbon-fiber saves 13 pounds of weight compared to a Mustang GTD Carbon Series with the Performance package. This weight reduction delivers better aerodynamics. 'Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD's high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD,' Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall said in a statement. Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon will have an exposed carbon body and functional aerodynamics, Goodall said. It features a black Brembo brake caliper, matching an anodized body with gloss-black GTD script. Anodizing is a process that converts a metal surface into "a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish," according to Ford said the performance package will be standard on the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim.
