BMC's subsidised diagnostic testing programme Aapli Chikitsa set to restart soon in Mumbai
We need a week or so to get it operational," confirmed deputy municipal commissioner Sharad Ughade.
The scheme lapsed in Dec 2024 after the BMC failed to appoint a new agency to carry out diagnostic tests after the old contract expired. In April, a Pune-based company, Lifenity Health Ltd, emerged as the lowest bidder in the BMC's tender process, offering a rate of Rs 90 against the estimated cost of Rs 100 for basic tests.
The final decision will be made within a week, Ughade said.
The BMC subsidised tests — nearly 100 basic and 40 advanced tests — by paying the difference to the empaneled company. The previously empaneled company, Krsnaa Diagnostics, offered a rate of Rs 86 for basic tests.

A senior BMC official said the scheme should be back within a month. BMC executive health officer Dr Daksha Shah said tests are still being conducted at free or subsidised rates for patients visiting BMC healthcare centres and hospitals. Regarding reports of a few suburban hospitals lacking the quick-test Elisa kits used for the detection of various diseases, including dengue, an official said: "Even if there is a shortage of Elisa kits, hospitals can collect blood samples and send them for testing at our lab in Kasturba Hospital.

Shimla: Health and family welfare minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) on Wednesday administered an oath against drug abuse and illegal trafficking to the youth from various educational institutions under the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan' and listed various initiatives being taken by the state govt to make Himachal Pradesh drug-free. The minister urged the youth, women, officials, employees, and people of Himachal to stay aware of the harmful effects of drugs, take active part in the campaign, and show united commitment against drug abuse. He said the directorate of Empowerment of Scheduled Castes, OBCs, Minorities, and the Specially Abled (ESOMSA) was working with NITI Aayog, the national dependence treatment centre at AIIMS Delhi, and PGIMER Chandigarh to prepare a detailed state action plan for drug prevention. Under the PIT NDPS Act, the Himachal Pradesh Police have seized illegal property worth Rs 42 crore, identified the property of 70 traffickers, and detained 44 notorious drug peddlers, the minister added. He further said a campaign was being actively run at the panchayat level to identify smugglers, and drug consumers. A special task force has been formed to focus on anti-drug operations, and 13 police stations have been notified for this purpose. De-addiction centres A 100-bed, fully equipped, modern de-addiction centre will be set up at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur district, said Shandil, adding that Rs 5.34 crore has already been approved for the project. COIMBATORE: The district consumer disputes redressal commission has directed a private health insurance company to reimburse Rs 3.42 lakh to a customer for medical expenses incurred for a heart surgery along with Rs 10,000 as compensation for mental agony and deficiency in service. According to official sources, M Baskar Ilango of Kuniyamuthur took a health insurance policy through HDFC Bank in Feb 2020.
