Honda expands production at motorcycle plant in Vithalapur
The production line plans to begin operation in 2027, and will have an annual production capacity of 650,000 units, bringing the total capacity of this particular plant to 2.61 million units, making it Honda's largest motorcycle assembly plant, said the statement. CM Bhupendra Patel attended the HMSI event on Thursday and congratulated the company 'for achieving the production of 50 crore two-wheelers globally and 7 crore units in India'.
He also congratulated PM Narendra Modi and the Indian Armed Forces for the 'grand success of Operation Sindoor'.
A statement from the CMO said, 'Two and a half decades ago, there was no discussion about the automobile sector in Gujarat. After Shri Narendrabhai Modi assumed charge as the Chief Minister in 2001, the state has developed an ecosystem in the automobile sector like all other sectors.'
HMSI currently has four production plants in India with a total annual production capacity of 6.14 million units.
The Vithalapur plant started operation in February 2016 with an annual production capacity of 600,000 units, and in June of the same year, the company expanded its capacity to 1.2 million units with the start of its second line. Furthermore, the third line started operation in January 2024, taking the annual production capacity to 1.96 million units.
Honda will be investing approximately Rs 9.2 billion to construct a fourth line capable of producing 650,000 units of 125cc class motorcycles per year. Tsutsumu Otani, President & CEO, HMSI said, 'Honda has long been investing and expanding its production capacity in India… to bring joy to its customers. 25 years on, HMSI has reached the milestone of 70 million units of cumulative production.'
CM Patel said, '… Japan has been an important partner in the development of Gujarat since the first series of Vibrant Gujarat Summit… with the commencement of Honda's fourth plant in Vithalapur, this plant will become the largest automobile plant in the world. This will create about 1,800 new jobs.'

The retired official, an employee of Wadgaon Sheri, lodged a complaint with the Cyber police on Tuesday. According to the police, he received a message on his messaging application in March urging him to invest in stocks to generate handsome income. Senior inspector Swapnali Shinde of the cyber police said, "The suspects promised the victim over 20% profit in just a few months. The retired official read the message and decided to contact its sender. His number was then added to a group on the messaging application. He then contacted the group admin, who promised to help him in trading shares and generating profit." "The suspects then told the victim to download a stock trading application. He downloaded it and started trading shares with tips from the suspects," the FIR stated. The suspects then promised to help the victim buy high-value shares and shared six bank account details with him. The retired govt official transferred money to these accounts on 11 occasions, the FIR stated. "In all, he transferred Rs 1.57 crores. The victim's application showed a sum of Rs2.93 crore as the collective sum of his investment and profit generated on the app. When he decided to sell off the shares for profit, the suspects demanded various fees and taxes. Indore: Recent rainfall has resulted in sludge and potholes on roads in one of the city's oldest industrial belts, Palda, leaving industrialists struggling with damaged roads and logistics challenges. Local industrialists said that deteriorating road conditions have led to deep potholes and hazardous driving scenarios, causing delays in movement of raw material and finished products. Palda Industrial Association secretary Harish Nagar expressed frustration over the situation, saying, "Industries in Palda have significantly limited their transportation activities due to damaged roads, which are not being repaired since long. We contribute approximately Rs 5 crore annually in property tax to the civic authority, yet basic infrastructure improvement remains unmet." Industrialists added that poor condition of roads and drainage systems have been repeatedly brought to the attention of Indore Municipal Corporation and relevant departments, yet appropriate action has not been taken to address these critical infrastructure needs. Another industrialist Komal Agrawal, who operates a dal mill in Palda said, "Damaged roads are not only affecting operational efficiency but also jeopardises the safety and integrity of goods in transit. Workers too are feeling the impact, as many find it increasingly difficult to reach their workplaces." While they welcome the simplification, stakeholders insist that swift implementation, especially of refunds, is essential to prevent disruptions and revive consumption. In his August 15 Independence Day address, PM Modi revealed plans to overhaul GST by October, aimed at easing the tax burden on daily-use items and MSMEs. The long-standing four-slab system (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) is being anticipated to be replaced by a streamlined two-slab structure with rates of 5% and 18%, and a special 40% rate on sin and luxury goods like tobacco and pan masala, as per reports of proposal having been sent to the group of ministers (GoM) and state finance ministers, ahead of the GST council's meeting. Industrialists and businessmen of Ludhiana expect that this reform could boost domestic consumption, exports, and market sentiment. "The prospect of two main GST rates are welcome, but delayed refunds could cripple operations.
