Box Office: Why is Jurassic World Rebirth's advance bookings not open in top Indian national chains yet?

Pink Villa5 hours ago
Jurassic World: Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali and others, hits North American theatres on 2nd July and Indian theatres on 4th July. The excitement for the film across the globe is very high. Early projections are that the dinosaur movie will go past the USD 300 million mark at the global box office, by the end of the first weekend itself. For a movie that needs USD 500 million to breakeven theatrically, the expected weekend number should be seen very positively.
Jurassic World: Rebirth Faces Hurdles In India; Full Fledged Advance Bookings Still Not Open
Despite all that's working in favour of the movie, there are a few things that are going against it. After the setback of getting no IMAX screens, now the movie is struggling to get its desired showcasing in top Indian national chains. Advances for tentpole Hollywood movies begin a week or two prior to the release. Here, the film's limited advance bookings have opened in chains like Cinepolis and MovieMax but not PVRInox, which contributes more than 50 percent of the earnings of any Hollywood feature.
Jurassic World: Rebirth Competes With Strong Holdover Releases And New Releases For Screens
It is said that the movie is struggling to get its desired showcasing due to strong holdover titles like F1, Maa and Sitaare Zameen Par, and its release rival Metro... In Dino. While it goes without saying that the dinosaur film will be the top pick for Indian moviegoers this week, it is unfortunate that it has to still struggle to get its desired showcasing. One would hope that the screen-sharing issues are sorted and the movie gets a smooth release.
Jurassic World: Rebirth Day 1 India Net Projections
Based on our tracking, Jurassic World: Rebirth should be opening in the Rs 9.50 - 10.50 crore net vicinity. However, the tracking number can go for a toss if it does not get the desired showcasing. The advance bookings should open in a full-fledged manner by Wednesday, if the movie really wants a shot at a double digit opening.
Jurassic World: Rebirth hits Indian theatres on 4th July, 2025. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena attends 'Umrao Jaan' screening, says it's a

New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, hailed the Rekha starrer 'Umrao Jaan' after watching its remastered version in theatres on Tuesday. Delhi's LG Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the special screening of 'Umrao Jaan' along with its director Muzaffar Ali in Delhi. He was welcomed by the director at the screening of the remastered version of the film. Before watching the movie, Delhi's LG addressed the viewers and said that he has watched Umrao Jaan countless times due to its direction, story, songs and lyrics. Vinai Kumar Saxena praised Umrao Jaan after the screening, calling it a 'unique' film which is difficult for filmmakers to make in today's time. 'Umrao Jaan, which was made 44 years ago by Muzaffar Ali, has become such a unique film that it is very difficult to make it in today's time. This is the film in which every character has played a role. Music, lyrics, direction, everything is unique in this film,' said Vinai Kumar Saxena. LG also labelled 'Umrao Jaan' as a career breakthrough film of Rekha. He said, 'If I say this, it won't be wrong to say that Rekha became Rekha from this film. If it weren't for this film, Rekha wouldn't have been Rekha. I am sure that this film will become a milestone in the future, which will be remembered forever in the Mumbai film industry.' Rekha won the National Award for her impeccable performance in the film as a courtesan-poetess in 19th-century Lucknow. Her graceful dance performance on 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai' is still admired and remembered by filmophiles. On the sidelines of the event, director Muzaffar Ali called 'Umrao Jaan' 'timeless' and 'ageless'. While talking to ANI, he said, 'I think the movie is timeless, it's ageless, it was meant for a time 150 years ago. So, it was meant to be a period film, and it has been true to the period. It is still vibrant and alive as that period would have been. So, that way, the film is, for me, full of nostalgia, full of memories, details and hard work.' Director Ali also shared that he is willing to take the Umrao Jaan to the festivals and OTT platforms. 'I think we'll take it to a festival route and then it will come to the OTT,' said Muzaffar Ali. 'Umrao Jaan' is a classic Indian period drama that has been adapted into two film versions. The 1981 version, starring Rekha, is a cult classic and won four National Awards. The 2006 version, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was not well received by the audience. Both films are based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa's novel Umrao Jaan Ada. It was re-released in theatres on June 27. Sabrina Carpenter fund surpasses $1 million for charity in record time

AP Sabrina Carpenter fund surpasses $1 million for charity (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP, File) Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has reached a remarkable philanthropic milestone, with her Sabrina Carpenter Fund surpassing $1 million in donations in less than a year—a record for artist-led initiatives with the nonprofit PLUS1. The achievement highlights Carpenter's growing influence not just in music, where her hits 'Espresso' and 'Please, Please, Please' dominate the charts, but also in social impact. Launched during her Short n' Sweet tour in partnership with PLUS1, the fund donates $1 from every ticket sold to causes close to Carpenter's heart: mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, and animal welfare. The fund raised $824,000 during her North American tour and crossed the million-dollar mark during her European dates, all while engaging millions of fans online—over 7.5 million views on social media have amplified the effort. PLUS1 CEO Marika Anthony-Shaw praised Carpenter's approach, saying, 'Sabrina is setting a new standard, one where social impact becomes woven into an artist's career to create meaningful, lasting change'. The Sabrina Carpenter Fund has already provided significant grants to organizations such as: The JED Foundation (youth mental health and suicide prevention) PAPYRUS (24/7 mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth in the UK) Rainbow Railroad (safety and freedom for LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide). Carpenter's creative fundraising extends beyond ticket sales, with partnerships like Erewhon supporting mental health initiatives and unique concert experiences—such as a 'cuddle lounge' with adoptable animals—further boosting on the milestone, Carpenter told Forbes, 'I am incredibly thankful to use my platform to amplify the efforts of remarkable organizations… Their work is truly transformative'. As Pride Month concluded, she shared a heartfelt message to her LGBTQ+ fans: 'You have always been there for me, and I am dedicated to being there for you. Thank you for your unwavering support, for bringing joy into my life, and for exemplifying the beauty of being your authentic self'.
