BYD launches low-cost 'Dolphin Surf' electric car in Europe

Time of India21-05-2025
China's
BYD
introduced its low-cost electric '
Dolphin Surf
' car, its tenth model on offer in Europe, in Berlin on Wednesday, as sales across the region pick up speed after a strategic revamp.
The car will sell at three price points, from 22,990 euros ($26,100.55) for a 322-kilometre range, to 24,990 euros for a 507-kilometre range.
Until the end of June, the three versions will be available at a discounted price of 19,990-24,990 euros, sales chief Patrick Schulz announced on Wednesday.
The car piles pressure on Europe's carmakers to offer more affordable electric alternatives, with cost still a major barrier to wider
adoption of electric cars
.
While only a handful of models, such as the Dacia Spring or Leapmotor's T03, exist in Europe for under 20,000 euros, 11 new models priced under 25,000 euros will go on sale on the continent this year including Volkswagen's ID.2, the Renault R5, the Fiat Grand Panda, and the Hyundai Inster.
"The compact segment is the next frontier for electrification in Europe," Maria Grazia Davino, regional managing director for markets including Germany, said in Berlin. "We think this market has huge potential."

Volkswagen customers unhappy with touch controls, suing the automaker

Volkswagen is facing a potential class-action lawsuit over the capacitive touch control buttons in the 2021-2023 ID.4 . Two owners of the Volkswagen ID.4 electric car have filed lawsuits against the German auto giant in New Jersey, alleging that the vehicle's steering wheel controls are defective for being too sensitive. They also alleged that the touch buttons are so sensitive that they can easily reactivate the adaptive cruise control with a mere light brush of the hand over the steering wheel's haptic controls. One of these two owners has reportedly experienced her Volkswagen ID.4 accelerating when pulling into a parking space after her hand brushed against the sensor. This caused an accident, damaging the VW EV. The accident allegedly cost the owner more than $14,000 as the electric car's undercarriage was damaged and injured the driver's hand. The other owner collided with their garage while trying to park the EV, damaging the door and the electric vehicle. These owners have filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These complaints highlighted unintended acceleration issues, emergency braking system failures, and injuries resulting from crashes caused by those alleged problems. Many of the reports occurred while drivers were manoeuvring the cars to park. They have acknowledged that their hands might have brushed against the touch panels. The lawsuit alleges that the car manufacturer has violated several warranty and consumer protection laws in Massachusetts and Connecticut in the US due to this alleged defect. The automaker has already stated that it is discontinuing the technology in its vehicles due to complaints, but that doesn't address the cars currently on the road. While the touch panels have found an increased penetration in modern cars, adding premiumness, they have often been dubbed as unnecessary features and causing distraction. Xiaomi plans to take on Tesla and BYD, targets European markets

Technology giant Xiaomi has already entered the dynamic segment of automobiles with its SU7 EV. Now, the carmaker is aiming to go bigger and challenge OEMs like Tesla and BYD . Xiaomi has already gained traction in the Chinese EV market and now aims to tap the European market. The tech giant-turned automaker intends to sell its first electric car in Europe by 2027, where Tesla and BYD have already gained a strong footprint. Bloomberg has reported that Xiaomi is targeting a major expansion of its EV business. The company's President, Lu Weibing, has reportedly shed more light on the company's expansion plans after reporting a 31 per cent rise in quarterly revenue, riding the successful launch of its second EV over the summer. Xiaomi has previously expressed its ambitions to go global, though it has never specified a target market. While Europe is a common destination for Chinese EV makers seeking to tap a more lucrative arena, considering they can often sell their cars with higher margins there, they do face higher tariffs. If Xiaomi exports its EVs to Europe, it would likely be subject to tariffs of up to 48 per cent, including a base 10 per cent import duty and additional countervailing levies of around 35 per cent to 38 per cent. Late last year, Xiaomi announced that they have produced one lakh units of the SU7 electric vehicle. The Xiaomi SU7 is the only electric vehicle that the Chinese brand is currently selling. It is a full-size sedan that was launched last year in the global market. The EV was also showcased in India, but as of now, there are no plans to launch it in our country. Xiaomi SU7: What is the range on a single charge? The driving range of an electric vehicle (EV) is influenced by various factors, including the specific model in question. The Xiaomi SU7 Max is equipped with a 101 kWh battery pack, enabling it to assert a driving range of up to 800 kilometres on a single charge, as per Xiaomi. Xiaomi SU7: How fast is it? The Xiaomi SU7 is available in two primary variants: the SU7 and the SU7 Max. The SU7 Max is exceptionally fast, with the manufacturer asserting that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 2.78 seconds. In comparison, the Xiaomi SU7 achieves a 0 to 200 km/h time of 10.67 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 265 km/h. Additionally, it features an impressive output of 668 bhp and a torque of 838 Nm. Income Tax Return Filing 2025: Who Needs To File ITR-3? Eligibility, Key Features, Updates

Last Updated: ITR-3 is one of the most detailed forms, meant for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who have income from business or profession. Here's all you need to know: ITR Filing 2025: The income tax return (ITR) filing season is going on, and the deadline for non-audit ITRs is September 15, 2025. The income tax department has already enabled different income tax return (ITR) forms for various categories of taxpayers. Among these, ITR-3 is one of the most detailed forms, meant for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who have income from business or profession. It covers taxpayers engaged in more than just salary or capital gains income. Who should file ITR-3? ITR-3 is meant for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who have income under the head 'profits and gains of business or profession" and are not eligible to file ITR-1 (Sahaj), ITR-2, or ITR-4 (Sugam). You need to file ITR-3 if you are: An individual or HUF carrying on a business or profession (proprietorship, consultancy, freelancing, etc.). A partner in a firm and earning income from the partnership (other than salary/commission, which goes in ITR-2). Earning income from presumptive taxation schemes (under Sections 44AD, 44ADA, or 44AE). Having income from house property, salary/pension, or other sources along with business/professional income, including F&O trading. Earning capital gains along with business/profession income. Who cannot use ITR-3? Companies, LLPs, and firms (they have separate forms like ITR-5, ITR-6, etc.). Individuals or HUFs without business/professional income (they should file ITR-1 or ITR-2 depending on conditions). Key details required in ITR-3 Profit and loss statement of the business/profession Balance sheet details (assets, liabilities, debtors, creditors, etc.) Details of presumptive income if opted under Sections 44AD/44ADA/44AE Income from salary, house property, capital gains, and other sources Foreign assets/income (if any) Taxes paid, advance tax, TDS/TCS details For the assessment year (AY) 2025-26 (i.e., for income earned in FY 2024-25), there are some important updates that taxpayers need to be aware of: Capital Gains Cut-Off Date – July 23, 2024 A notable change this year is related to capital gains reporting. The Finance Act, 2024, amended the capital gains rules for shares and mutual funds acquired on or after July 23, 2024. As per the amendment: Equity mutual funds and listed shares sold on or after July 23, 2024, will have higher LTCG (12.5%) and STCG (20%). However, those sold before this date will attract old rates of 10% (LTCG) and 15% (STCG). This change impacts the way taxpayers report Schedule CG (Capital Gains) in ITR-3. Taxpayers must now separately report gains from assets sold before and after the July 23 cut-off date. This implies a split approach in reporting and calculating capital gains, and may require more detailed documentation for future filings. Filing Deadline The due date to file ITR-3 for individuals and professionals not subject to tax audit is September 15, 2025. For those whose accounts require audit under the Income Tax Act, the last date is October 31, 2025. However, audit needs to be submitted by September 30, 2025. Taxpayers are advised not to wait until the last moment, especially given the complexity of this year's disclosures related to capital gains. tags : income tax income tax return view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 20, 2025, 14:01 IST News business » tax Income Tax Return Filing 2025: Who Needs To File ITR-3?
