Sydney Sweeney Stacks Two Custom Crimson Gowns Into a Single Premiere Night

While sultry, tight-fitting slips are still a celebrity staple, it seems their voluminous counterparts are back in the spotlight. Despite certain soirées' efforts to shrink the ballgown (ahem, the 2025 Cannes Film Festival), Cynthia Erivo, Elle Fanning, Lana Del Rey, Keke Palmer, and most recently, Sydney Sweeney are taking up sartorial space anyway.
On June 4, Sweeney looked every bit a princess at the New York premiere of Echo Valley. Commissioned by Sweeney and her longtime stylist, Molly Dickson, Vera Wang created a custom ballgown for the actor's special night. Per the atelier, the crimson red design was constructed of Italian silk and featherweight faille. The strapless bodice featured a crumb-catcher neckline that flared up at each side. Her natural waistline cinched at the middle before stretching out into a hand-draped peplum atop the floor-length skirt. Layers upon layers of tulle petticoats peeked out from underneath the regal gown.
To ensure all eyes went to Wang's work, Sweeney accessorized with minimal jewelry. Instead of a necklace, bracelets, and rings, she only wore stud diamond earrings, courtesy of Kwiat.
Once the curtain closed at the Apple TV+ film's screening, Sweeney changed into a little red dress for the after-party. The leading lady dressed the part in a Vivienne Westwood-esque midi, complete with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a delicately-draped neckline. Marking her second LRD of the evening, it was in the same crimson shade as her ballgown.
Sweeney's footwear was hidden during her first look of the night. Her after-hours attire, however, revealed complementary pointy pumps in the same vibrant color.
If you kept tabs on Sweeney's press tour style for Echo Valley, you know she saved the most dramatic dress for last. Earlier that day, she was spotted in a nautical number from Coperni Fall 2025. Sweeney paired the vest and skirt with knee-high boots, Alexander McQueen sunglasses, and the Miu Miu Acadie Bag—a fitting selection for the brand ambassador.
As the premiere's official step-and-repeat drew near, Sweeney delivered her final street style set: a menswear-inspired moment by Oscar de la Renta. Always on board for monochrome, the 27-year-old sported a plaid button-down with the coordinating trousers. Her baby blue heels brought out the set's matching stripes. To finish, Sweeney carried the Poppy Tote Bag, also from the New York label.
Unlike her months-long Immaculate press tour last summer, she fit her Echo Valley events into only a few days. At this point, she's mastered the art of a speedy promo trail. This week, Sweeney debuted six stellar looks in under 48 hours—and gave the extra-oversize ballgown its due while she was at it. Give it up for the It girl.

So without further ado, let's dive into all the best new movies on streaming to watch this weekend. Love 'em or hate 'em, Disney shows no signs of slowing down with cranking out live-action remakes. Its latest, "Snow White," has been mired in controversy since its announcement, and unfortunately, the film doesn't offer much to overshadow that noise. To its credit, it's more watchable than some of the other Disney remakes, and there are a few new songs added into the mix for fans of the original. Those curious about all the chatter can now check out "Snow White" on Disney Plus from the comfort of their own couch. Rachel Zegler takes on the role of the titular princess, who is banished from her kingdom by her ruthless stepmother, played by Gal Gadot. To reclaim her rightful place on the throne, she teams up with a group of magical beings and a bandit leader (Andrew Burnap) to challenge the evil Queen and restore peace to the realm. "Echo Valley" is part slow-burn thriller, part tightly coiled mother-daughter drama grounded by masterclass performances from its two leads, Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney. It follows grieving horse trainer Kate Garrett (Moore), whose peaceful life on a secluded Pennsylvania farm is shattered when her estranged daughter Claire (Sweeney) arrives late one night covered in blood that is not her own. Claire claims she got in a fight with her boyfriend, but as details emerge, Kate is forced into a devastating moral crossroads. Written by "Mare of Easttown's" Brad Ingelsby, "Echo Valley" treads similarly gritty ground, offering a tense, emotionally charged descent into moral ambiguity. Prime Video just got a hilarious new action comedy that puts three improv performers — Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed — in a precarious predicament. An undercover cop (Sean Bean) recruits the trio to infiltrate London's criminal underworld by pretending to be the very criminals they've only ever played on stage. Their new gig spirals out of control faster than you can say "zip, zap, zop!" While its action sequences aren't all that exciting, the sharp writing and hilarious performances in "Deep Cover" offer plenty of laughs. Orlando Bloom, in particular, is a hoot as a "serious" actor overly committed to the role of playing the group's muscle, come hell or high water. Watch it now on Prime Video Legendary James Bond director Martin Campbell returns with a "Die Hard"-style action thriller led by "Star Wars" actress Daisy Ridley. Though it wears its inspiration on its sleeve, "Cleaner" still delivers a fast-paced and entertaining ride with plenty of nerve-jangling aerial stunts to keep you on the edge of your seat. "Cleaner" kicks off when a group of radical activists storm an energy company's annual gala, taking 300 hostages in a bold attempt to expose corporate corruption. Fortunately for the guests trapped inside, an ex-soldier turned window cleaner (Ridley) just happens to be on the scene, albeit suspended 50 floors up, when the chaos erupts. Channeling her inner Bruce Willis, she springs into action in a desperate fight to save the day. Watch it now on Max One of my favorite Gerard Butler movies, "Plane," just arrived on Netflix, and it's already crash-landed in the streamer's top 10 list. In this high-octane action thriller, Butler stars as commercial airline pilot Brodie Torrance, who's hoping to wrap up one last flight before reuniting with his daughter. But when a violent storm strikes mid-flight and a lightning bolt knocks out the plane's avionics, Torrance is forced to make an emergency landing. Though he gets the plane down safely, he realizes too late that it's on the remote, pirate-controlled Jolo Islands. Stranded and surrounded by danger, he has to team up with a fugitive passenger (Mike Colter) to outwit local warlords and keep the survivors alive long enough for help to arrive. Cillian Murphy Is Amazing In 28 Days Later, But I Was Shook By The A-Listers Who Originally Vied For The Role

I'm still amazed that director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have reassembled to deliver a new tale of terror to the 2025 movie schedule in 28 Years Later. The occasion has left me also thinking about 28 Days Later a lot, a film that would eventually become known as Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy's star-making performance. But while the Oppenheimer lead has always been pitch perfect in the role of Jim, there's a long existing list of names that have been rumored to be up for the part back in the day. And when I say names, I truly mean 'names,' like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and frequent Boyle collaborator Ewan McGregor. When the opportunity to watch the first 28 minutes of 28 Years Later was paired with an in-person interview with its intrepid director, I had to try and weed out fact from fiction, which saw all three names debunked in the process. However, that's when Danny Boyle gave CinemaBlend two names I never expected to be in the mix: I'll tell you who did audition for Jim. … Tom Hardy and Orlando Bloom, because they'd all finished either drama school or Black Hawk Down. … We didn't have very much money, we thought 'We'll never be able to afford a bigger actor.' And we wanted newbies who just didn't know which way it would break with them. So the trio of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor were never going to even make the list for 28 Days Later's casting. With that being said, I'm very surprised that Tom Hardy and Orlando Bloom hadn't been reported more often - especially at that point in their careers. Although coincidentally enough, McGregor was in Black Hawk Down himself, as well as entrenched in the Star Wars prequel trilogy at the time. Likewise, by the time Danny Boyle's film was making the rounds in its initial 2002 release in the UK, Hardy and Bloom were going head to head at the box office thanks to their respective roles in Star Trek: Nemesis and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Honestly, either man would have been a distraction to the tense, harrowing journey 28 Days Later took, as audiences would know they'd survive the ride. The whole point of the third act is that by time Jim's on his rampage through Major West's estate, you're supposed to wonder if he's an Infected at that point. While we now know that wasn't the case, and with Cillian Murphy set to return for 28 Years Later's sequel The Bone Temple, that point tends to get a bit lost. However, Danny Boyle's perspective seemed to see him pick between two finalists, with the Christopher Nolan vet winning out in the end. At least, that's what it sounded like when the 28 Years Later mastermind shared this with CinemaBlend: And I remember seeing [them], and we saw Cillian, and I remember thinking, 'Whoa, he'll have an amazing career.' I remember thinking that. I was right. I remember thinking that about Orlando Bloom, I thought 'He'll do all right. ' The rest, as they say, is history. 2003's US release lit a fuse that saw both Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris both launch into higher profile roles, and Danny Boyle and Alex Garland being heralded as the men who reanimated the zombie (and zombie-adjacent) subgenre. Seeing as Stephen King bought out showings of 28 Days Later just so he could give them out to spread the word, that was clearly the right choice. And as Danny Boyle himself suggested, Orlando Bloom and Tom Hardy did 'do alright' in the end. Let's hope that 28 Years Later renews its franchise's King Seal of Approval, when it opens in theaters on June 20th.
