Tragedy as teenage girl, 15, who 'lit up every room' is killed outside her church
The victim, identified as Aleia Kuhn, was struck in the parking lot of Philippi Baptist Church in Henry County in what authorities have described as a heartbreaking accident with no criminal intent.
Aleia's death has devastated the tight-knit community in eastern Georgia, where she was known as a vibrant, kind-hearted teenager who 'lit up every room' she entered.
In the days since her death last Wednesday a vigil was held outside the church in the same parking lot where the teenager died.
Hundreds turned out from across the community to pay tribute to the popular girl.
Her mother, Amanda Schroeder-Kuhn, called her 'my backbone and my heart,' and said her daughter 'loved so big' and lived with a deep faith.
The exact details of the accident remain under investigation, but authorities have only confirmed that it occurred in the church parking lot as Aleia was leaving.
The teen was just weeks away from celebrating her 16th birthday.
'She was my backbone and my heart,' her mother, Amanda Schroeder-Kuhn wrote on Facebook in a tribute to her daughter. 'I wasn't ready for Him to want her back already.
'She was too good for this earth and her testimony and love for Jesus will live through me forever. I don't know how to live a life without her so all the all the prayers are being felt and giving comfort to all her friends and family.'
An obituary painted some more personal details about Aleia including how she loved Nerd Clusters, Kinder chocolate, and salt & vinegar chips. She had a love for Chick-fil-A, especially if it was with 'all the ranch.'
'She loved with her whole heart. She forgave fast. She made people feel seen and safe, every single day,' reporter Kaitlyn Ross shared in a moving tribute on 11Alive. 'No one was ready. And no one ever will be.'
Youth group leaders at Philippi Baptist Church say Aleia was the kind of student who lifted others up and that if a kid sat alone, she would go to sit with them.
In the days since the accident, the Kuhn family has been surrounded by an outpouring of love with hundreds paying their respects online.
Caring for a Cause, a local nonprofit, launched a memorial fund to support funeral services and the family's needs during their time of grief.
'Aleia's life was short, but her impact was immeasurable,' her family wrote. 'Though our selfishness wants her back, we know that if she had the choice, she wouldn't come back. Heaven is too beautiful, and her joy there is complete.'
She leaves behind her loving parents, Chris and Amanda Kuhn; her brothers Corben and Colter Kuhn; and a large extended family of grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, and church friends - all shattered by the sudden loss.

'Parent-killing' teen sends entitled and creepy texts from behind bars as family begs friends to defend her
A Georgia teen accused of killing her mom and stepfather thanked her supporters in newly revealed texts as her family begs friends to be character witnesses at her upcoming trial. Sarah Grace Patrick, 17, allegedly murdered her mom Kristin Brock and stepfather James Brock in February. As she prepares for trial, family friend Carrie Jenson shared screenshots of texts Patrick has sent her from behind bars, in which she expressed her gratitude to those who have stood by her. 'okay well if i could say anything id say im beyond greatful for the support and prayers and for yall giving me a voice, it means more than anyone could imagine (sic),' she wrote. In another text, first reported by the US Sun, she wrote: 'yes maam and it was good news yesterday i love yall and im so beyond proud of you and miss you guys so dang much.' It comes as her father Doniel Patrick has been backing his daughter since she was charged with murder in July, and has been appealing for friends and family to serve as character witnesses at her trial. In an appeal to Facebook ahead of her next hearing on Tuesday, he wrote: 'We need people that know Sarah to write character witness notes and statements about her. 'If you would like to do this please I'm begging you write a letter as soon as you can, let me know and I will send it over.' Doniel revealed on August 11 that his daughter endured a painful ordeal when prison staff hauled her into court in chains despite her not having a hearing that day. He wrote: 'I spoke to Sarah today. Today was a hard day for her. She woke up to them, taking her out of her room and taking her to court that she did not even have. 'She told them that she did not have court today and they still took her. They shackled her up ankles and her wrist. 'Took her to the court and made her sit in a tiny cell all day long with the cuffs so now her wrist and her ankles are hurting really bad but she made it through it. She just didn't understand what was going on. 'I think there has to be a better process for things like this. It just doesn't make sense on a good note. She got to receive her canteen today so she got a lot of the goodies that she likes. 'She's eating well. Or at least as well as she can. She is so happy to have all of you supporting her. Thank all of you. Just thought I would fill you in on her day. Hope everybody is having a good day.' The father's support follows bombshell court documents previously revealed by Daily Mail which showed that Patrick was at the center of a bitter custody battle in which Doniel accused her alleged victims of abusing drugs and being 'unsafe' to care for her during her childhood. Sarah's father, Doniel Patrick (pictured), has stood by her since her arrest, and revealed on August 11 that his daughter endured a painful ordeal when prison staff hauled her into court in chains despite her not having a hearing that day After Sarah allegedly murdered her mom and stepdad, she posted tributes, tearful selfies and even pleas for justice on TikTok, all of which were dug up by internet sleuths after it was revealed she may have been involved in their deaths Ever since the teen turned herself in on July 8, there has been rampant speculation about what drove an angel-faced teen to allegedly kill her mother and stepfather. Authorities have not yet revealed a motive, but the late couple's loved ones have hit out at 'victim-blaming' and denied their pasts had anything to do with their murders at their home in Carrollton, 45 miles west of Atlanta, on February 20. But court documents seen by provide an insight into the accused teen's often chaotic childhood, which appears to have been blighted by her mom and stepfather's alleged drug use. In 2018, Doniel filed for divorce from his wife, Kristin Nolan Patrick, after a 10-year marriage during which they had Sarah Grace and her younger brother, Donnie, 12, while living in Acworth, Georgia. In court papers, Doniel, 43, demanded joint legal custody of the kids with 'primary physical custody of the parties' minor child' and that any visits between his estranged wife and the children be supervised until she could prove she was clean and sober. Under their July 2018 divorce order, the pair agreed on joint legal custody of the children, with primary physical custody given to the mother, and the father seeing them on alternate weekends and holidays. The exes also agreed they would not 'abuse' alcohol or drugs when they were looking after the kids. The couple was killed in their home in Carrollton, 45 miles west of Atlanta in February But in November 2019, Doniel filed an emergency application for custody of the children, who lived with Kristin and her partner Brock - both of whom were allegedly killed by Sarah. In an explosive legal motion, Doniel said the kids were exposed to drug use – mainly Methamphetamines and marijuana – by Kristin and James. It added: 'The mother has unrehabilitated substance abuse issues and both she and her boyfriend fail to adequately provide a suitable drug-free environment for minor children.' Doniel went on to cite eye-popping claims by Sarah Grace, then just 11 years old, who told cops about the drugs in the home and the 'unsafe living conditions' due to her mom allowing her friends to come over when they were on meth. Doniel added: 'As a result of the mother's drug usage and the mother's boyfriend discipling the minor son with a belt that left a visible injury, the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) got involved. 'The Defendant moved from Cobb County to Carroll County and failed to notify (DFCS) and attempted to avoid being investigated further.' He said a series of recent events raised 'concern' for the kids' safety and accused Kristin of 'spiraling' behaviors, which made it 'extremely unsafe for her to have the children in any unsupervised manner.' Sarah Grace is said to have told her teacher about 'her fears of going back to her mother's house and being exposed to the drugs'. 'The minor daughter is able to express whether her mother hides the illegal drugs in the house, what the drugs look like in the packaging and the foul odor of the methamphetamines,' the motion added. James was said to be 'currently on Felony probation for Possession of Methamphetamines'. Cobb County Superior Court documents show that in August 2017, James Matthew Brock was sentenced to two years' probation for possession of meth. But court papers reveal James violated his probation by committing theft by shoplifting and receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana and obstruction of an officer between February and April 2018. He was sentenced to three years, with the first two months served in confinement and the remainder on probation. As a twice-convicted felon sentenced to more than a year in jail, James was banned from buying or owning a firearm. Amid speculation that James had a gun in the home, his niece Krysten Dowda clarified that she was not aware he owned a gun. In October 2020, it was agreed that Sarah Grace would live with her father during the week and her mother could visit her on set weekends. Doniel and Kristin's relationship appears to have improved dramatically in recent years. Last year, he posted a photograph of a teenage Sarah Grace on Facebook with the caption: 'So proud of her, Kristin Brock we made one beautiful girl.' Asked about his daughter's drug use, Kristin's father Dennis Nolan told the Mail: 'About 10 years ago she had a drug problem, but [recently] she was very clean, and she was involved with the church and so happy. She felt born again and very saved.' He denied claims by cops that Sarah Grace lived with different relatives, insisting she always lived with the Brocks, with some weekends at her father's, per the divorce deal. But in August 2022, it appears things between the deceased couple took a turn, with James petitioning for a temporary protection order against Kristin, claiming he feared for his safety and that of their little girl, Jaley, now aged six. James said of Kristin: 'Respondent tried to run over the petitioner while he was inside the barn, with the minor child in the backseat of the vehicle. 'The other minor child witnessed the whole incident. Respondent is abusing prescription medication.' Patrick remains behind bars and will next appear in court on August 19 for her bond hearing. The teen has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. She has not yet entered a plea.
