Prisoners are accused of eating guinea pigs they took from an animal shelter in Australia.
The abandoned pets had been living at a shelter in Perth, Western Australia, when the inmates allegedly decided to turn some of them into food.
Now the Department of Corrective Services is investigating the 'disturbing' allegations, ABC News reports.
The low-security prisoners had been doing supervised work in the community as part of the Wooroloo Prison Farm's Section 95 programme when the incident happened, it is thought.

The investigation was launched after a prison worker found several guinea pig carcasses stored in a shed outside the facility's perimeter, Western Australia's Corrective Services Commissioner Brad Royce said.
He told Nine radio: 'They didn't get them into the prison, they have an external area where we maintain tool sheds, things like that for working in the community.'
The prisoners were reportedly told at the shelter that the guinea pigs are 'quite tasty,' leading them to slaughter the animals so that they coudl be cooked at the prison.
Royce said: 'Eating guinea pigs is a surprise, but any of my Section 95 prisoners, we don't encourage them eating offsite or give them anything.
'In this case there was a deal done, obviously, that will come up in the investigation.'

All Section 95 programmes have been paused while officials carry out the investigation.
Royce said in a statement: 'These allegations are disturbing, and I have asked for an investigation into the actions of Section 95 prisoners and their supervision.'
Guinea pigs are a popular pet in the UK. The animal, which is classed as a rodent, can live up to seven years. Their diet consists of timothy, grass, carrots and spinach.
Despite their cuddly look, guinea pigs are often abandoned by their owners.
More than 1,600 guinea pigs were abandoned between 2021 and the end of August 2023, according to the RSPCA.
One animal was found at Canning Town Underground station in London.
The pet, which was nicknamed DiscoPig, was discovered sitting in a cage with a note saying 'I need a new owner.'

She said: 'At around 2.30pm, our air crew was deployed to assist Merseyside Police after reports of a man riding a scrambler bike dangerously near Carr Mill Dam. 'The rider mounted pavements, sped through residential areas, and narrowly missed a pedestrian. 'A second male later joined him on the bike and together they continued to evade police, travelling across roads and fields. 'Our crew tracked the motorcyclist for over an hour, providing continuous updates to ground officers.' Chief Supt Gaffney explained that the crew had been attempting to land in a safe location, but decided to abort the landing after the suspect continued to flee, and accelerated in 'an accepted take-off manoeuvre'. More Trending After internally reviewing the aircraft footage, radio logs, and its operational decision-making, NPAS said it was satisfied that the crew had acted appropriately, carried out a dynamic risk assessment, and operated within all regulations. It said in a statement: 'The fast-paced and unpredictable nature of vehicle pursuits can require crews to make rapid decisions to ensure public safety. 'We have robust procedures in place to support these decisions and safety remains our highest priority. 'We continue to work closely with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure all relevant standards and procedures are upheld. Man arrested after pack of dogs tore flesh from girl's ‘entire body' leaving her unrecognizable & needing 500 stitches
A MAN has been arrested almost a month after a teenage girl was attacked by a pack of dogs, leaving her unrecognizable. Tracy Hurtado was left needing over 500 stitches after more than 10 "large breed dogs" savaged her whilst out for a jog in Newberry Springs, California. 6 6 6 The 17-year-old was running on a dirt road between 6:30 and 7 am on July 17 when she was nearly killed by the animals, cops said. A neighbor heard the girls screams, called 911 and rushed to help, quickly followed by Tracy's mother Maria. "I thought they ripped her arms off," the distraught mom told ABC News. "I didn't know who she was. She was so dirty, covered in dirt, so I couldn't recognize my daughter. "I recognized her bra, that's what I recognized." "I got close to her and she asked me, 'Mom, am I still pretty? and I said 'Yeah, you're beautiful," Maria added. Tracy was rushed for treatment at the Loma Linda Children's Hospital where she stayed for a number of days. Her stepfather Carlos Ramirez told the news outlet how she needed over 500 stitches for wounds all over her body. "What was going through my mind was the worst," he said. "It was not one dog or two dogs, it was a lot. I mean, they bit every part of her body you could think of except for her ankles." Officials said she had suffered "large lacerations, abrasions, and removed flesh." On August 13, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of Craig Arthur Simmons in connection with the attack. Officials confirmed the 61-year-old's arrest after having "conducted surveillance" on his home. Prior to the arrest, cops saw him riding his bike near the property and they interviewed him and took him into custody. He is charged with being the owner of an animal causing serious bodily injury or death. Officials had previously seized 16 dogs from the area before a criminal investigation was launched. The Sheriff's Department added that the canines belonging to Simmons were "not fenced or leashed at the time of the incident". A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Tracy's recovery. At the time of writing it has raised over $33,000 of its $35,000 goal. "She was getting ready to do her senior year of high school this year," the page reads. "Now, because of this, she has to stay home and go to several doctor's appointments and rehab. "Due to the trauma, she cannot sleep at night; she's having nightmares." 6 6
