Tottenham condemn racist abuse of Mathys Tel after penalty miss in Super Cup defeat
Tel missed a spot-kick in a penalty shoot-out, which Tottenham lost 4-3 after they had surrendered a late 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 after 90 minutes.
The France Under-21s international, whose loan deal from Bayern Munich was made permanent in a £30m deal in June, was targeted with abuse after firing his effort wide.
Tottenham said in a statement: 'We are disgusted at the racial abuse that Mathys Tel has received on social media following last night's UEFA Super Cup defeat.
'Mathys showed bravery and courage to step forward and take a penalty, yet those who abuse him are nothing but cowards – hiding behind anonymous usernames and profiles to spout their abhorrent views.
'We will work with the authorities and social media platforms to take the strongest possible action against any individual we are able to identify. We stand with you, Mathys.'
Tottenham led 2-0 until the 85th minute at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy, through goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero before late efforts from Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos hauled PSG level.

A Wolverhampton Wanderers fan is set to abseil down a stand at the club's stadium in memory of her late Cullis's dad Barry, who was known by everyone as Stan, died in December 2023, seven years after being diagnosed with Cullis said she wanted to do the Molineux Abseil, which involves descending 25m (82ft) down the Billy Wright Stand, to pay tribute to him and her sister Lorna, who also died from cancer."As a family, I thought it would be a good way to pay tribute and help us move forward, while also raising money for Wolves Foundation," she said. The family happen to share their surname with the team's former manager Stan Cullis, a name which was "synonymous with the club's illustrious history", a Wolves spokesperson Cullis said she thought her father was actually a "distant relative of the man himself" and may have been a second cousin."I don't think the name ever leaves us," she explained. "Every person we meet in Wolverhampton asks us if we knew Stan, and it's something to treasure really."In his final weeks in hospital, Barry was also sent some gifts from the club and was set to receive a call from a former player, but died before it could be Cullis said she wanted to "repay the favour and that compassion", with money raised from the abseil on 6 September going to the club's official charity."I am definitely looking forward to the challenge, it's a really nice thing to do and I am sure I'll have plenty of support," she said. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed which team he believes is most likely to challenge his former club for the Premier League title this season. Norfolk residents can anonymously report on drink drivers they know
A former roads policing officer hoped an anonymous drink driving reporting tool would make people more "fearful" of driving while over the limit. Norfolk Police launched a new form which allowed residents to report someone they knew who regularly drove while under the influence of drink or drugs. The reporting tool would be trialled throughout August and, if successful, would become permanent, the force said. Ex-officer John Scruby, trustee at Campaign Against Drink Driving, said: "By reporting drink drivers, that can only be a good thing... perhaps people will be fearful they will perhaps be found out." Information from the form will be fed directly into the police control room, where it will be allocated to an officer to look into. Insp Will Drummond said: "This tool means that people can help us to remove dangerous drivers from Norfolk's roads without the worry of any potential backlash." Mr Scruby hoped there would be a "zero tolerance" approach to alcohol in the country in the future. He said: "I think the major issue is that drinking and driving is not illegal, we have been saying for donkeys years, do not drink and drive... the only way around this, I'm afraid, is a zero tolerance approach."He added that the current drink-drive limit is not easy to understand or calculate into pints and units. It came as the government was considering reducing the drink-drive limit from 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath to 22 micrograms.
