Korean actress slammed after using ex-husband's sperm for IVF without consent

Daily Record4 days ago
South Korean actress Lee Si-young, 43, has sparked controversy after revealing she used an embryo created with her ex-husband's sperm to get pregnant, without his permission.
A South Korean actress has been branded 'selfish' after she admitted to using her ex-husband's sperm to become pregnant via IVF without his consent.

Actress Lee Si-young, 43, was married to entrepreneur, Cho Seong-hyun with whom she shares a seven-year-old son. The pair were married for eight years until they divorced in March, reports the Mirror.

The actress and former amateur boxer, who boasts four million followers on Instagram, recently announced she's expecting a child via an embryo, which was fertilised give years ago, when she was still in a relationship with Seong-hyun

Announcing the news on Instagram, in a now-deleted post, Si-young said she "had to make a choice" to use the embryo, adding that she "will bear the full weight of my decision" while admitting: "I didn't ask for consent from the other person".
Explaining the reason behind the huge choice, she wrote as per a translation via The KTea's Instagram page: "Eight years ago, when I had my first child, now the most important person in my life, I was not married and filming a drama.
"Back then, I was younger and had many shortcomings. Every time I saw Jung-yoon in my arms, I regretted and blamed myself for the time I spent with anxiety negatively.
"That's why I promised myself that if I ever got another chance, I would never regret it again. I prepared for my second child through IVF during my marriage.
"However, a long time passed without receiving the fertilised embryos, and the topic of divorce naturally came up. After all the legal process was sorted out, the five-year frozen embryo storage period was ending, and I had to make a choice. Before the disposal date, I decided to have the transplant myself."

Admitting she didn't ask for consent "from the other person", she said: "Although I didn't ask for consent from the the other person, I will bear the full weight of my decision.'
Si-young also stated how grateful she was for her son, who helped her "endure her troubled married life", concluding: "Right now, I am only grateful for the new life that came to me, and I am spending a more peaceful and happy time.
"I will humbly accept any criticism or advice you give me in the future."

As per the Korea Times, Seong-hyun confirmed that he will help to parent his child, even though he "opposed the pregnancy".
"Although I opposed the second pregnancy, now that the child is coming, I will do my best as a father," he told Dispatch, "Lee and I have continued to communicate for the sake of our first child and we will cooperate regarding the upbringing of both children."
Following the shocking news, fans were divided on social media, with some accusing the actress of "cornering" her ex into fatherhood.
However another replied: "It's their life and I try to feel empathy for everyone involved."

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star gives birth to fourth child with husband

Mikayla Matthews has welcomed her fourth child with her husband Jace Terry. On Sunday afternoon, the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star, 25, shared the exciting news on social media and revealed she gave birth to their baby earlier this week. In her Instagram caption, she told her fans that she gave birth on Thursday, July 17 as she shared a series of photos of their first moments spent with their newborn baby in the hospital. She shared a carousel of photos of her and her husband admiring their newborn daughter and also included a snapshot of her baby's fingers holding her hand. Alongside her fourth child's date of birth, the reality TV personality — who first shared her pregnancy news on social media back in February — wrote: 'Our perfect baby girl is here.' In addition to their newest family member, she and her husband are also parents to to daughters Haven, five, Tommie, three, and son Beckham, seven. On her Instagram Story, she also shared that she had 'been keeping a secret' as she shared more photos from the first few, quiet days she and her family enjoyed with their new baby. In another slide, she said that she 'can't wait to share all the details with you guys' before sharing a teaser clip of their youngest daughter's birth story. 'We have just been so in love over here with our baby girl. She's everything we ever wanted and I'm just so happy,' she gushed over a snapshot of her cuddling with her baby. She also shared a TikTok video, sharing with her fans that she 'posted a little sneak peek of what our life has been like the last 3 days.' In her posts, her co-star Mayci Neeley also appeared to make an appearance as she is also due to give birth within the next couple of weeks. Matthews is the second to give birth this month out of the castmates as Jennifer Affleck also revealed earlier this month that she welcomed her third child. Their happy news comes shortly after it was confirmed that a third season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is in the works. Back in late February, the mother-of-four shared a video of the moment she discovered her surprise pregnancy. In her Instagram post, she wrote in her caption: 'Praying this baby heals me. So happy I [can] finally talk about this with all you guys, hahaha!' Her 'healing' comment was a reference to the chronic illness, which causes severe eczema to flare all over her body, that she's suffered from since childhood and she still hasn't received a diagnosis. 'People tell me, "Maybe this baby's gonna heal you." My fingers are crossed because I get my most anxiety about all my health stuff and giving that to my baby,' Matthews told People on Thursday. 'It's almost motivated me more to take care of my body because I'm like, "I want this baby to be as healthy as possible. I want me to be as healthy as possible."' The Leighton Meester lookalike tends to 'miss my period a lot with my health issues' and she 'didn't think I could get pregnant right now' so the couple was 'shocked' after taking the test. The influencer said she and her husband waited until she was 'about eight weeks' along before telling their three kids that they would be welcoming another little one to the family. 'We waited until after my first ultrasound to tell them,' Matthews — who plans on having six total children — recalled. 'We actually told them on the show, and they were so excited. They said Santa brought them a baby for Christmas. It was so sweet.'

Waterbomb Festival is returning to Hong Kong this summer, and going to Macau for the first time

We've been itching to go to a music festival soon, and Waterbomb has finally answered our prayers, announcing confirmation of their Hong Kong dates this year. This festival originates from South Korea, and is well-known for being a water party with liberal use of water guns on top of a music festival, so be prepared to get soaked. Mark your calendars for October 4 and 5, as Waterbomb will be taking over the Central Harbourfront. The 2025 lineup has yet to be confirmed, but last year saw major Korean artists like Rain, Jay Park, Loco, Gray, Jessi, StayC, PH-1, and more perform on our stage, so this edition is bound to be pretty stellar as well. If you're planning on going, log onto their Instagram and comment who you'd like to see at the festival in their artist wishlist post – and hopefully with enough fan support, you'll get to see your favourite musicians live in Hong Kong. This year also marks the first time ever that the Waterbomb Festival is going to Macau. The precise venue hasn't been confirmed yet, but the dates are coming up soon next month, on August 9 to 10. Ticket information for both events will be released soon, so check this space. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this year the festival's queues will be managed better – and also praying that we won't be hit by a typhoon during the event again!
