Swimmer Siobhan Haughey, who won the women's award three times in a row from 2021, became the city's first four-time Olympic medallist in Paris.
Haughey won two bronze medals in the 100 and 200 metres freestyle in the French capital last summer, to go with the pair of silvers she won at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
However, she will face a strong challenge from Vivian Kong Man-wai, who in Paris became the first female fencer to win gold for Hong Kong with her dramatic victory over hometown favourite Auriane Mallo in the final, where she recovered from a 1-7 deficit to win 13-12.
Other nominees include cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing, table tennis starlet Doo Hoi-kem and rising tennis star Cody Wong Hong-yi.

In the men's category, fencer Cheung Ka-long is favourite after he became a two-time gold medallist with a sensational victory in the individual foil final in Paris.

Olympic fencing winner Cheung Ka-long to face ex-world champ in Hong Kong exhibition bout

Two-time Olympic winner Cheung Ka-long will face off against former world champion Enzo Lefort of France in the city in a fortnight, the organisers announced on Tuesday. Advertisement To celebrate the co-hosting of the National Games, which runs in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau from November 9 to 21, a local charity organisation is staging a fencing exhibition at the Hong Kong Palace Museum later this month. The August 26 event, organised by the GDCD Association, will pit left-hander Cheung against Lefort – a three-time world champion and a Tokyo Olympics men's foil team gold medallist – in a rematch of their quarter-final tie at the Paris Olympic Games last year. Hongkonger Cheung won 15-14 on the way to clinching his second straight Olympic gold medal, having done so at the Tokyo Games in 2021. The exhibition will mark the first time the Palace Museum in West Kowloon will host a fencing event, and a senior official of the local association admitted he was 'sceptical' about the possibility at the start. China's Zhong Man, the 2008 Olympics sabre champion, will face Hong Kong's Antonio Lam. Photo: AFP 'The Games at the Grand Palais in Paris last summer proved fencing events could be held anywhere,' said Antonio Lam Hin-chung, acting general secretary of the Fencing Association of Hong Kong, China. 'There was doubt initially, but we found that it was feasible to stage an event [at the museum].'

Top fencers to duel at Palace Museum

Top fencers to duel at Palace Museum Activities promoting the National Games are to highlight crossovers between culture and sport. Photo: RTHK Top fencers from Hong Kong and the world will face off at the Hong Kong Palace Museum later this month as part of a series of activities to encourage the public to learn more about the upcoming National Games and cheer on athletes. The exhibition will feature Olympic gold medallist Edgar Cheung of Hong Kong, China taking on France's world champion Enzo Lefort – a rematch of their Paris Olympics quarter-final. Asian Games bronze medallist Lam Hin-chung from the SAR will fence China's Olympic gold medallist Zhong Man in sabre. Lam said it is meaningful to bring the sport to an iconic cultural landmark for the first time, mirroring the Grand Palais in France, home of fencing at last year's Olympics. "It means a lot to me because last year when I was at the Paris Olympics, we were there, and [Edgar Cheung and Vivian Kong] got a gold medal in such a great place there," Lam said. "And we were talking about like, 'oh, why don't we do it in Hong Kong?' The Palace Museum, it means Chinese culture in Hong Kong, and I think it's similar like the [Grand] Palais in Paris. So that's why we try to make it happen." Local rising athlete Hailin Chen, who will face fellow fencer Vivienne Lee, said she hopes to inspire youngsters through the exhibition match. "Showcasing fencing in this grand venue can inspire younger fencers as well as just promoting the sport of fencing and inspiring younger kids to know the sport and also continue to play the sport that they like," Chen said. "I think it's crazy that they're able to fit a fencing piece there and for us to perform, and I'm just really excited to just be there and enjoy the game." The matches will be broadcast live on RTHK TV 32 and on a channel in France on August 26. Local artist Elaine Chiu also created paintings to commemorate the Games, one of which will be revealed at the Palace Museum on the night of the matches. Event organiser and GDCD Association Limited chairman Vincent Cheng said the Games is an opportunity for crossovers between culture and sport. "We hope that this event can let more people know that we can promote sports from culture and we can also promote culture in sports, so it's both ways. Hopefully we can have more crossover coming up in the future as well," said Cheng, who's also a DAB lawmaker. Leading up to the National Games, GDCD Association Limited will host several community events around the Yau Tsim Mong district. Residents can participate in interactive booths and athlete sharings to learn more about the spirit of the Games.

World Games: Hong Kong's Tomato Ho denied squash bronze, Cheung poised for wushu final

Hong Kong's Tomato Ho Tze-lok was unable to give the city its fifth medal at the World Games in Chengdu on Tuesday, as she was defeated in the women's squash bronze medal match. Ho, who had gone so close to earning a place in the gold medal match in her narrow semi-final loss on Monday, could not lift herself again at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre and was well beaten by Spain's Marta Dominguez. Dominguez took a tightly contested first game 12-10, before dominating the second, which she won 11-5. Ho did not lead at any point in the 37-minute match, and looked despondent as the match slipped away. She lost the third game 11-2, sealing a 3-0 victory for her opponent. Tomato Ho took a blow to the head in her bronze final. Photo: Reuters Summing up her day, when trailing 7-1 in the third game, Dominguez's racquet hit Ho's head, leaving her shaken and requiring a medical timeout to get it iced.
