Mount says Man Utd should aim for European return
Ruben Amorim's side need to improve on their 24-25 performance, when they finished 23 points behind seventh-placed Nottingham Forest, who took up the last of the European qualifying places based on a league finish.United have already spent more than £125m to bring in forwards Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. They also continue to be linked with strikers, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins' the most recent subject of speculation following suggestions of a move for Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson. Both rumours involved out-of-favour winger Alejandro Garnacho going the other way.United sources are adamant no deal is imminent, with Villa privately saying Watkins is going nowhere. The club have travelled to the Unired States for their three-match Premier League Summer Series campaign featuring games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton. In the meantime, Garnacho and fellow outcasts Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are training with club staff at United's Carrington training complex.Real Betis are still keen to bring Antony back to the club after last season's successful loan spell, while Juventus are keen on Sancho but need to create room in their squad before they can pursue any deal.

Keir Starmer mocked for cringe call with hero Lionesses from Scotland as squad crowd around phone at No10 reception
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SIR Keir Starmer has been mocked by fans after his "awkward" behaviour on a phone call with the heroic Lionesses. Sarina Wiegman's side retained their title as European champions on Sunday after Chloe Kelly coolly dispatched the decisive spot-kick in a penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 draw with Spain. Number 10 was decorated for the occasion, with St George's flags draped over windows and bunting along the railings. But Sir Keir was not in attendance due to meeting with US President Donald Trump in Scotland. The President welcomed the PM and his wife Victoria to his golf course at Turnberry this afternoon for wide-ranging talks. However, Starmer did manage a phone call to the Lionesses while they were at the Downing Street garden to celebrate their Euros victory. A post shared on Sir Keir's social media showed the moment Sarina Wiegman and some of the Lionesses received a video call from the PM. He said: "Fantastic to see you all and welcome to Downing Street. I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to you and the whole team." The video-call lasted about five minutes and Wiegman could be heard saying "hello Keir, nice to see you", adding "it's lovely here". She then thanked him for calling and for supporting the team throughout the tournament. But trolls were quick to hit out against Sir Keir's phone call with some branding it "awkward" for the heroic Lionesses. Another said on X, formerly Twitter: "Why does Keir have that uncanny valley AI feel in this video? "It just gives off such weird vibes man." England's Lionesses return home to heroes' welcome with EURO 2025 trophy Meanwhile, a third laughed: "They couldn't wait to get you off the phone." "All feels so fake," said another of Starmer's attempt at conversation during the phone call. The PM's post was captioned: "Back-to-back tournament wins. Inspiring the next generation. History makers. "On behalf of the entire nation — congratulations Lionesses." Sarina Wiegman's troops secured a sensational second straight Women's European Championship title last Sunday with a penalty shootout victory over Spain in Basel. England bested the Spaniards 3-1 in the shootout following a 1-1 draw after extra time on Sunday. And they were greeted by a chorus of cheers as they touched down in Old Blighty on Monday afternoon. Scores of footie fans waited for their heroines outside the terminal after getting wind of their arrival and erupted in cheers at Southend Airport in Essex. Tuesday will see the team enjoy an open-top bus procession along The Mall and a ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace. However, the Government won't commemorate the Lionesses' latest trophy haul with a Bank Holiday. CHAMPIONS AGAIN The Lionesses had a bumpy ride in Switzerland, but always managed to come up with the goods in the big moments. Sarina Wiegman's side produced several Houdini acts before triumphing on penalties against world champions Spain in the final. England got off to a poor start as Beth Mead missed the first pen of the shootout But Hampton saved twice - including one from Caldentey and another from superstar Aitana Bonmati before Salma Paralluelo shanked her effort wide. Kelly, 27, kept her cool to slot home the decisive penalty as England retained their title as European champions via a shootout on a historic night in Basel. The former Man City forward was the definition of a supersub, coming on for an injured Lauren James at the end of the first half and going on to set up Alessia Russo's equalising goal and netting the deciding spot kick.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr want Man Utd outcast and Chelsea standout
Cristiano Ronaldo's team are looking to strengthen this summer (Picture: Getty Images) Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr are plotting a big summer of spending as they target new signings from the Premier League. Cristiano Ronaldo's side finished third in the Saudi top flight last season and are looking to make ground on champions Al Ittihad and Al Hilal, who were runners-up. They have already agreed a deal to sign Joao Felix from Chelsea, with the 25-year-old set to finalise his move from Stamford Bridge imminently. Despite an entirely forgettable spell with the Blues, which saw him loaned out to AC Milan, they have managed to sell him to Saudi in a deal worth up to £43.7m. Al Nassr are looking to continue their spending, with another Chelsea player on their radar, with somewhat shock interest arising in Marc Cucurella. While the Blues were more than happy to get rid of Felix, they are absolutely not looking to sell the Spanish left-back who has been a key player under Enzo Maresca. The 27-year-old played 54 times for Chelsea in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and is set to remain first choice in the next campaign. Marc Cucurella lifted the Club World Cup trophy with Chelsea (Picture: Getty Images) He made a slow start after his move from Brighton in 2022, but the Spain international has developed into a big player for the Blues. Spanish publication Marca report that Al Nassr intend to bid for Cucurella and it would likely be a huge offer from the Saudi side. However, report that Chelsea have no intention of selling their starting left-back. Al Nassr will likely have better luck in their target at Old Trafford, as they are also interested in signing Manchester United outcast Antony. Antony is available for transfer at Manchester United (Picture: Getty Images) Brazilian outlet UOL report the interest in the winger, with Manchester United hoping to get £50m for the player who spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis. The Red Devils paid £82m for his services in 2022, but even £50m now feels like an ambitious price tag to put on him. More Trending Foot Mercato have reported that Al Nassr have gone as far as making an offer for the Brazil international, although did not confirm who much that bid was worth. Antony Premier League stats Apps: 62 Goals: 5 Assists: 3 Antony has also attracted interest from Brazil, with Botafogo and his boyhood club Sao Paulo making enquiries to the player and United. But Brazilian outlet Antenados claim Antony has rejected a potential return to his home country, telling both clubs he is not considering a move back to Brazil at this stage of his career. Antony reportedly thanked Botafogo and Sao Paulo for their approaches but informed them he was not currently interested in a return to Brazil. Could Jadon Sancho join Borussia Dortmund for a THIRD time? German side 'monitoring' Man United outcast after he was banished to 'Bomb Squad'
Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho ahead of a possible THIRD separate swoop for the forward, according to reports. Sancho has been banished to the 'Bomb Squad' at Old Trafford and is not in Ruben Amorim 's plans after Chelsea paid a £5million penalty to send him back to United. The 25-year-old had moved to the Blues on loan last summer after his relationship with Erik ten Hag broke down, but a permanent deal - and pay cut - did not materialise. As a result, United are again actively working to offload him. However, Sky Germany have claimed that Sancho is 'back on the agenda' at Dortmund and officials at the Bundesliga giants are monitoring his situation. United, it is said, will be happy to accept a bid between £16m-£18m, substantially lower than the £73m they splashed out to sign him from Dortmund in July 2021. His first spell at the club cemented his status as one of the world's best up-and-coming talents and he made an instant impact after returning to spend the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan, leading them to the Champions League final. Across both stints at Dortmund, Sancho made 158 appearances, scoring 53 goals. The winger has also been linked with Juventus and earlier this month, it was reported that his agent jetted out to Turin in a bid to break a £5m deadlock with United. Sancho joined fellow wantaways Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia in missing the Red Devils' pre-season tour in the US - while Marcus Rashford secured a dream move to Barcelona - but Amorim admitted he could look to re-integrate them. United want to offload all four players to fund new signings. 'We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide,' Amorim said. 'If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join because they are our players. I know Jason, Omar and the club have a number for these players. 'If they don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute, but they can have a surprise. 'I'm ready to receive the players. They have more competition. If you want to play in the World Cup next year you need to play, so I'm really happy with that because I have more options. If they have to fight each other to play, for me it's perfect.' Asked about the decision to leave four players behind, Amorim said that it was important to have a 'healthy' squad who appreciate what it means to be at United. 'If you see the best teams in the world, you feel the bond between all the players. I think that is really important,' the head coach added. 'Then I think we need to remind ourselves how special it is to be at Manchester United. It's the best club in the world. 'It should be for everyone that is on the pitch with our club. 'I really like that feeling. I really like to be in the group that is healthy. We are going to suffer and have problems. That feeling of bonding from everybody – from the staff, from the players, with the technical staff – is really important. 'I think it can help us to win some games that we are not performing so well, but something happened because the spirit is positive.'
