Two arrested after fatal stabbing of man who ‘tried to break up' fight

Police were called to the scene outside Hounslow Muslim Centre on Hanworth Road, west London, at 2.21pm on Sunday.
Paramedics treated the victim for multiple stab wounds before he was taken to hospital where he later died, the Metropolitan Police said.An investigation was launched into the death and two men, aged 27 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday.
Both remain in custody for questioning.
The victim, named locally as Dara Sayed Barham, worked two jobs, including one at a restaurant near where the incident took place.
His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers, police said.
Witnesses described him as a 'very good man' who worked at the Menara Lounge, a Middle Eastern restaurant, next to the Muslim Centre.
One said: 'It's so sad, he was only 22 and was trying to be a mediator in a fight that broke out between people outside the restaurant on the street.
'He was trying to break it up but got caught up in the fight.'
Farhan Ali, 31, lives in Hounslow and has been running a phone shop for nine years near where the incident took place.
He said of the victim: 'He was such a good guy, and so hard-working too.
'He was my best customer and would often send people up from the restaurant he worked at to help my business.
'He was only 22 and it's so sad – life is so short.
'I've known him for six years and he is a big part of the community here and an amazing person.'
One friend of the victim said: 'He used to bring me sandwiches from the restaurant, and he'd always stop to chat.
'He has died for nothing. He was taken too soon. Nobody had a bad word to say about Dara.'
The Metropolitan Police said there is nothing to suggest a link between the incident and the Hounslow Muslim Centre.
Superintendent James Rawlinson, from the local neighbourhood policing team, said: 'We are aware of the effect this horrendous incident has had on the local community, and have designated officers on reassurance patrols to answer questions that you may have.
'Residents will continue to see increased police presence whilst this investigation remains ongoing.
'I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.
'Our thoughts, as always, remain with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time.'

Trump to patrol Washington streets in crime crackdown: ‘I'm going out tonight'

Donald Trump will personally patrol the streets of Washington DC on Thursday night as part of a crackdown on crime in the capital. The US president will join officers from the Metropolitan Police Department, which he took federal control of last week, and National Guard troops, for a ride-along. 'I'm going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military, of course. So we're going to do a job,' he told conservative radio host Todd Starnes. 'The National Guard is great. They've done a fantastic job,' Mr Trump added. The move follows an Aug 10 executive order he signed federalising local police forces and activating some 800 DC National Guard troops. Mr Trump said he was left with no choice but to deploy troops to the capital owing to 'abject failures of the city's leadership', hitting out at the 'radical Left city council' for abolishing the system of cash bail. He added that he was taking 'historic action to rescue our nation's capital from crime', declaring: 'This is liberation day in DC.' Federal agents have appeared in some of the city's busiest neighbourhoods. Mr Trump has been criticised for deploying the National Guard in tourist hotspots, rather than areas with high crime rates. JD Vance, the vice-president, handed out burgers to troops at Union Station, and shook their hands on Wednesday. 'You guys bust your ass all day, we give you a hamburger,' the vice-president said, admitting: 'Not a fair trade but we're grateful for everything you guys do.' Questioned why troops had been sent to Union Station, Mr Vance insisted that its crime rate was actually 'extremely high'. Demonstrators booed, jeered, and shouted obscenitie s at Mr Vance, who was accompanied on the visit by defence secretary Pete Hegseth and Stephen Miller, the deputy White House chief of staff. 'You have vagrants, you have drug addicts, you have the homeless, you have the mentally ill who harass, who threaten violence, who attack families – and they've done it for far too long,' he told reporters. The move has been met with resistance from local residents. Last week, a justice department employee was charged with assault after hurling a Subway sandwich at a member of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). On Wednesday, Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said authorities had made 465 arrests since Aug 7. 'Thanks to President Trump's leadership and the outstanding work of both federal and local law enforcement, dangerous gang members like the one picked up last night will not be allowed on the streets of our nation's capital,' she said. Hitting out at 'fake narratives from the media', Ms Leavitt said 'a significant number of the arrests have been in high crime areas of DC'.
