This Burning Mercedes-AMG One Breaks Our Hearts
Cars are complicated machines, even before shoehorning a massively complex Formula 1 engine behind the seats. Hybridization adds yet another layer of complexity, resulting in a hypercar that requires an engine rebuild every 31,000 miles (50,000 kilometers). inside an enclosed trailer in May 2023.
Fast-forward two years, and it appears another Mercedes-AMG One has gone up in flames. In the age of AI, it's not always easy to verify what appears on social media, but this video
seems
legitimate. That said, we've done our due diligence and reached out to Mercedes to confirm whether the footage of the electrified hypercar burning to a crisp is genuine. Until we hear back, please consider our skepticism warranted.
Details remain scarce, but based on the surroundings and look of the ambulance, it seems the fire occurred in Germany. The AMG One in question carries an 'OL' license plate, indicating registration in the Oldenburg region. After some digging, we found other videos of the car prior to the incident. The dark green machine was showcased in April at the Techno Classica Essen.
Firefighters responded to the scene, but it was too late to save one of the 275 units that Mercedes-AMG is making. Footage of the aftermath shows what's left of the
fastest production car to lap the Nürburgring
. Frankly, identifying the make and model would be difficult, given how little is left after the fire.
As for what caused the blaze, it's tempting to blame the complex hybrid setup. However, it's unclear whether the battery or the intricately engineered 1.6-liter V-6 was responsible. What matters most is that the driver apparently pulled over and got out of the vehicle before the AMG One was fully engulfed. Hopefully, they escaped unharmed.
Circling back to the license plate, it appears to have been a customer car rather than a prototype. Mercedes' test vehicles typically use 'LW' plates for Ludwigsburg, because AMG's headquarters are located in Affalterbach, a municipality in the Ludwigsburg district.

Mercedes Electric Semi Truck Delivers Backwards Load To Break New World Record
This week Mercedes-Benz Trucks set a new record for driving a load over the road entirely in reverse, as well as a closed course record for continuous reversing. The driver, Marco Hellgrewe, described as a German Armed Forces officer and "truck enthusiast" was picked to reverse the brand new all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 to set the records, and absolutely delivered. The day began at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben where Marco pushed the truck in reverse for a new record of 124.7 kilometers without stopping. Once that record had been achieved, Marco drove out onto the public streets, still in reverse, and drove over 30 kilometers from Oschersleben to the new Daimler Truck Global Parts Center in Halberstadt. The key to breaking a new record in reversing a tractor trailer is taking your time and having a police escort. The 30 kilometer drive in reverse took around two hours to complete, meaning the truck was travelling at just under 10 miles per hour for the entirety of the journey. "For me, a big dream has come true: to drive a long distance in reverse on public roads with an all-electric truck and semitrailer. And even being able to do it with the electric flagship eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz Trucks – which has now become my second home, so to speak," says Hellgrewe. Back in 2018 Audi and ABT Schaeffler built an electric RS3 that went 130 miles per hour in reverse, which was absolutely trounced by the Rimac Nevera in 2023 setting a reverse top speed of 171.34 miles per hour. The prior tractor trailer reverse distance record was set by an Irish farmer in 2017, running almost 21 kilometers backing up. Mercedes-Benz Trucks worked with the mayor of Halberstadt for this project with both parties seeking attention for road safety, electrification, and "truck driver image." Truck drivers are essential to the mechanics of everyday life, bringing the things we need to live from wherever they're made to wherever we are. The job is a tough one with long hours and challenging working conditions, and truckers are vital to any functional economy. The talent that it takes to drive a big rig in the tight confines of any European city must be commended, but to do the whole thing in reverse must be on a completely different level. Among the features of the 2.5 million-square-foot build are over 1,000 parking spaces, over 800 condominium residences, a 175-key hotel, 130,000 total square feet of amenity and hospitality space and 200,000 square feet of office space. There is also a public park that surrounds the Brickell neighborhood space. It will be filled with a basketball court, a dog run, green space, a kid-friendly section and a restaurant that will be built into the historic building that once housed Miami's first high school. Each condo buyer can customize their space from a selected materials and color palette developed in partnership with the Mercedes-Benz team, led by Mercedes-Benz's Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener. Prospective buyers can see the options at the site's experience center. In its Finish Room, the sales team shares floor plans and views with clients, helping them understand what their unit could look like. Like when ordering a car, customers are presented with a curated menu of options they can choose from. Unlike what is available from Mercedes' Manufaktur arm, high levels of materials and design customization aren't able to be accommodated. Instead, as with a car, the highest level of customization and personalization comes from AI. "AI and connected technology have been part of the design process (a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, SHoP Architects, and Woods Bagot), and will be experienced in many ways throughout the property, including through an in-home 'dashboard' in your private kitchen," Stern said. One potential AI-linked opportunity is a valet summon capability. Imagine a blend of technology that knows your schedule, traffic, navigation and climate control preferences that would be able to ask the condo complex's valet to pull up your car so you can be sure to leave on time, in comfort. Or, utilizing self-driving features, your Mercedes car could drive itself out of the deck and into the porte-cochère so it is ready and waiting for you when you arrive on the ground floor. "Seamless communication will be available at every turn. Not just a 'SmartHome', this is a SmartBuilding, and SmartLifestyle, where your car can talk to your home," Stern said. Additional high-tech amenities at Mercedes-Benz Places include an F1 simulator, recording studio and custom app. The first residences in the building are expected to be inhabited in 2027.

Dortmund in race against time if they want to sign Bellingham for CWC

Bellingham was on Friday nominated into England's squad for the upcoming under-21 European championships in Slovakia, which start on Wednesday. Advertisement The 19-year-old Bellingham has also agreed to join Dortmund, where his brother, Jude Bellingham, played in the past, from Sunderland. Dortmund would like to have him available for the Club World Cup in the United States which starts on June 14, but for that they will have to complete the deal by Tuesday, June 10, when an additional transfer window for Club World Cup teams closes. Dortmund and Sunderland are in talks but Dortmund are reportedly not ready to pay the alleged release fee of €40 million ($45.7 million), offering only around €30 million.
