Gujrat tourist dies in paragliding mishap in Dharamshala
The deceased has been identified as Satish from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, they added. He was on a tandem flight and fell during take-off along with his pilot who also sustained injuries. Their paraglider crashed on the site. This is the second such incident in Dharamshala this year in which a tourist was killed in a paragliding mishap.
The incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday. Police officials said that the tourist was on a trip with his cousin in Dharamshala. The injured tourist was first taken to Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala from where he was referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda in Kangra, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Kangra district tourism development officer Vinay Dhiman said, 'The preliminary inquiry suggests that the tandem flight's take-off was done from a site which is not notified, which is a complete violation of HP Aero-Sports Rules 2022, and the order of the high court wherein it has been mentioned that no site can be operated without a marshal. Neither this site is notified, nor was there any marshal present there. We have asked the sub-divisional regulatory authority, Dharamshala, to take cognisance of the incident. We have issued show-cause notices to both pilot and the operator and appropriate action will be taken as per the law after their response is received.'
Meanwhile, police officials also said that they are investigating the incident.
Earlier this year, a 19-year-old female tourist also died in a paragliding accident on January 19 while taking-off at the Indrunag paragliding site in Dharamshala.

1 2 Prayagraj: Authorities of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) have intensified preparations for the review officer (RO)/assistant review officer (ARO) preliminary exam 2023 scheduled on July 27 at 2,382 centres spread over 75 districts across the state. The original and preserved copies were sealed in tamper-proof polybag envelopes to ensure security. The examination will be conducted for 3 hours and candidates are required to answer 200 questions, including 140 on general studies and 60 on general Hindi. The examination incorporates a negative marking scheme, where one-third mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. In Prayagraj district alone, 106 examination centres have been established to accommodate total 46,032 registered candidates. Several institutions were allocated two centres each to manage the large number of candidates. Notably, the centres also included prominent educational institutions such as the Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University in Faizabad and Prof. Rajendra Singh Rajju Bhaiya University in Naini, along with some CBSE-affiliated schools.

Woman dies after inhaling toxic geyser gas in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A 27-year-old woman, visiting her fiancé, died after inhaling toxic gas from a geyser in Nelamangala Thursday night. The deceased is identified as Megha K from Kadur in Chikkamagaluru district. "July 19 was Megha's birthday, and Satish had called her for her birthday shopping. Accordingly, Megha came to Satish's residence Monday night. On Tuesday and Wednesday, she went shopping with Satish's mother, Sunanda. Megha had decided to return Thursday evening. After Satish and Sunanda left for their work post lunch, Megha went to bathroom for a shower after turning the gas geyser on, police said. Around 8pm, Sunanda returned home from her workplace and found the main door locked from inside. "With the neighbour's help, they broke the main door and the bathroom door open, only to find Megha dead inside," an investigating officer said, adding, "There was no ventilation, which is a must while using a gas geyser," he said.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi rival factions clash, 8 injured
Akola: Eight people were injured in a violent clash between two rival factions of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi in Krushinagar area on Thursday evening. According to police officials, the incident occurred around 7pm when Akash Gavai, accompanied by his supporters, allegedly entered the residence of Satish Wankhade, verbally abused him, and provoked him to come outside. As Satish stepped out, he was attacked with swords and iron rods, causing deep injuries, particularly on his hand. The attack sparked retaliation from Wankhade's faction. A full-blown street brawl broke out, lasting about 15 to 20 minutes, during which both groups used weapons including swords, rods, and wooden sticks. Satish was reportedly dragged 100 to 200 feet away from his house while bleeding profusely, and one of the attackers allegedly fired a gunshot into the air. Police rushed to the spot after being alerted by terrified residents. Crime branch units, dog squad, and local police teams reached the site. Two live cartridges were recovered from the vicinity, though police confirmed no injuries were caused by gunfire, and all injuries were from sharp or blunt weapons. DySP Gajanan Padghan told the media: "Preliminary investigation suggests the clash stemmed from a long-standing feud and possibly disputes over funds collection for a religious procession during Shravan month. We are scanning CCTV footage from Wankhade's house to identify all attackers." Raghunath Wankhade, father of injured Satish, stated, "My son was called down and then brutally assaulted with weapons. The attackers dragged him outside, beat him with bricks, and even fired a gunshot. Our entire family was terrified, especially the children at home." Currently, eight individuals from both groups (five from one faction and three from the other) are receiving treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Akola. Police have begun the process of registering a formal FIR at the Civil Line police station, and identification and search for the absconding attackers is underway.
