Mohali: Purse containing ₹1L stolen from parked car in Phase-5 market
Phase-1 police on Saturday booked an unidentified person for stealing a lady's purse containing ₹1 lakh, an ATM card, and other documents from a locked car parked in the Phase 5 market on Thursday.
Complainant Supreet Singh of Jalandhar told the police that he, along with his family, was heading to Delhi and had stopped in Mohali for having dinner. After parking the car in the said market and leaving the purse, belonging to his wife, on its back seat, the family headed to a restaurant.
However, when the family members came back after an hour, they found the rear side window glass of the car broken and the purse missing. After informing the police control room, the Phase-1 police team reached the spot for inspection.
Police are scrutinising nearby CCTV cameras to trace the accused. Notably, the battery of a Maruti Alto car parked in the said market was also stolen last month.
Phase-1 police have booked the unidentified accused under Sections 303(theft) and 324 (4) (mischief involving intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Delhi: Two juveniles held for stabbing 16-year-old boy to death in Anand Parbat area
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Two juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in Delhi's Anand Parbat area, police said on Saturday. On June 2, police received information about a grievously injured and unconscious boy lying near Durga Mandir in Taliwalan Basti. A police team reached the spot immediately. As per the statement, an eyewitness informed the police that while he was returning home with the victim, two unidentified boys approached from behind and stabbed the 16-year-old before fleeing. The victim was rushed to RML Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said. Following the incident, an FIR (No. 275/25) was registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Anand Parbat, and the investigation began. According to DCP Nidhin Valsan's statement, the police team analysed CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and developed local intelligence. On June 5, based on credible secret information, two juveniles were apprehended. During questioning, the juveniles admitted to their involvement in the incident, as per the police. Based on their disclosure, a blood-stained knife, believed to be the weapon of offence, was recovered from a park near Jeewan Mala Hospital. The case is under further investigation, and the Juvenile Justice Act is processing the accused. In a separate incident, the Delhi Police solved a sensational murder case reported from the Bindapur area and arrested a 24-year-old man, Nitish Dass. The arrest was made by a joint team comprising personnel from the Anti-Narcotics Cell and the Bindapur police station, operating under the Dwarka district. The case came to light on May 9, 2025, when the Bindapur police station received a PCR call in the evening. The caller, Baleshwar Dass, informed police that his son, Akhilesh, had been strangled and his body had been left outside their rented home in Phase-2, JJ Colony, Sector 3, Dwarka. A case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched without delay. Given the gravity of the offence, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Subhash Chand of the Anti-Narcotics Cell and Inspector Darshan Lal, SHO of Bindapur police station. The police analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas and reviewed the activities of known local criminals. During this process, a suspect--later identified as Nitish Dass--was seen near the crime scene in CCTV footage. On May 11, a head constable from the Anti-Narcotics Cell received a key tip-off through secret informers that confirmed Dass's identity and involvement. After several days of surveillance, the police tracked the accused to Nawada in Bihar. On May 14, a police team apprehended Nitish Dass in Nawada with support from local authorities and brought him back to Delhi for further legal action. (ANI)

Barnala: 75-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting minor
A 75-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Barnala. The accused has been identified as Ajaib Singh. Dhanaula station house officer Lakhvir Singh said the girl was playing football with other children when the accused lured her to a secluded part of the playground and sexually assaulted her. He reportedly fled after noticing some walkers approaching them. After the incident, the girl immediately ran home and informed her family following which they lodged a police complaint. A case under Sections 74 (assault or the use of criminal force against women with the intent to outrage their modesty) and 76 (assault or using criminal force on a woman with the intent to disrobe her) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the accused. Additionally, he faces charges under Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act as the victim is a minor. Authorities confirmed that the minor girl is recuperating well and undergoing medical examination.

UP shocker: Army man arrested for alleged rape of colleague's minor daughter in Meerut cantonment; probe on
MEERUT: A 45-year-old havildar in the Army, a non-commissioned officer, was arrested by UP police for allegedly raping the minor daughter of a fellow serviceman at the army quarters within the Meerut Cantonment area, as stated in the FIR. According to the FIR, a copy of which is with TOI stated, "The incident took place on the night of June 3, between 12 to 2am. The minor stepped out of her quarter to stroll when the accused forcefully dragged her to his house and violated her." The traumatised girl, upon returning home, recounted the horrific ordeal to her parents, who were left in shock. Following this, the victim approached Meerut police on June 4, and an FIR was lodged under BNS Section 64 (rape) and relevant POCSO sections. The accused and the victim's father are reportedly stationed in the same unit in Meerut. Initially, the accused was absconding but was eventually arrested late Friday night. He is scheduled to be presented before the court on Saturday. A senior police official, requesting not to be named, said, "We lodged an FIR against the accused and are investigating the case thoroughly."
