Keylor Navas shines in Newell's Old Boys 2-0 win over Boca Juniors
ROSARIO, Argentina, March 30 (Reuters) - Newell's Old Boys secured a 2-0 home win over Boca Juniors in the Argentine Primera Division Apertura tournament on Sunday, with goalkeeper Keylor Navas stopping a penalty from former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Edinson Cavani.
Luciano Herrera opened the scoring after five minutes, latching on to Carlos Gonzalez's precise header. The hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Luciano Lollo headed home Ever Banega's cross.

In the second half, Boca's hopes were shattered when Navas saved a dramatic penalty from captain Cavani before also saving the rebound on a rainy night at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium.
Boca dropped to second in Group A standings with 23 points, while Newell's are 11th.

Mauricio Pochettino eyed for sensational Spurs return but key obstacle remains
Tottenham enjoyed a successful period with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm and he's being considered as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou - but finances may scupper any hope of a return Mauricio Pochettino is being considered as the next Tottenham manager but it would take a mammoth fee to get him back to north London given he's currently in charge of the USA national team. Daniel Levy is on the lookout for another new manager after sacking Ange Postecoglou on Friday. The Australian won the Europa League, but it wasn't enough to keep him in a job given a dire Premier League campaign, which saw them finish 17th. A list of possible replacements has been drawn up with Pochettino, who led the club for five years, being linked with a return to the post he left in 2019. The Argentine has since gone on to lead the likes of PSG and Chelsea but now finds himself in international management with the USA, who are looking forward to hosting the World Cup next year with Pochettino at the helm. The BBC reports that if Tottenham wanted to get Pochettino out of his contract and back to Tottenham the compensation package they would have to pay would be one of the "biggest in football history". That could leave them looking elsewhere despite there previously being talk of a return for Pochettino, who was axed just months after guiding the club to the final of the Champions League. Despite missing out on a trophy he consistently got Tottenham into the top four, finishing second in 2017. He previously admitted a return was on his radar, but not right now: "I am in the USA, so I am not going to talk about that now - but what I said then I still, after six years or five years, feel in my heart. Yes, I would like one day to come back." Brentford boss Thomas Frank is among the other names being considered to replacement Postecoglou. He's continued to work impressively in west London despite losing his best players annually, yet he's been able to ensure Brentford consolidate themselves in the top flight. He has a £10million release clause though and Tottenham are also considering Fulham's Marco Silva. The Portuguese boss recently claimed he intends to remain as the Cottagers boss, but has been shortlisted.

Cieran Slicker endures nightmare start for Scotland as Steve Clarke's men suffer TWO major blunders against Iceland
GOALKEEPER Cieran Slicker's debut for Scotland could not have got off to a worse start against Iceland. The Ipswich Town shot-stopper replaced the injured Angus Gunn as Steve Clarke's men were forced into an early change in the June friendly. 3 Cieran Slicker kicking the ball away after conceding Credit: Reuters 3 Gunn forced to go off after just a few minutes Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 Another howler from the Scotland defence Credit: PA Gunn, who is looking for a new club after being released by Norwich City, went off following a seemingly innocuous challenge after just a few minutes. It meant Clarke had to turn to his bench. And, a few minutes later, Slicker was forced to pick the ball out of his net with one of his first touches, as his dream moment turned into a nightmare. Andri Gudjohnsen capitalised on the goalkeeper's slack pass out, rifling the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box to give the visitors the lead on eight minutes. That mistake clearly dented the 22-year-old's confidence as he needlessly gave the ball away just minutes later before enduring a few other nervy moments. A few shakes of the head after the goal showed his frustration, with his arm going up to his team-mates to acknowledge his mistake. Scotland's next match is against Liechtenstein on Monday before going into the World Cup qualifiers in September. And on this evidence of this display, it is going to have to be a vastly improved performance. Clarke gave debut starts to Max Johnston, fresh from winning the Austrian Bundesliga with Sturm Graz, and striker George Hirst, while Kieran Tierney earned his 50th cap. John Souttar levelled for Scotland half way through the first half, converting Johnston's corner with a header. Steve Clarke likes Lennon Miller's stated ambition to become one of Scotland's top players But the Scots conceded again in calamitous fashion just before the break. An Iceland corner was not properly dealt with by the defence. The ball cannoned off Souttar inside the six-yard box and then Ferguson, with Slicker not covering himself in glory as the ball crept over the line. Incredibly, it went bad to worse for Slicker as Iceland made it three and it was another goalkeeping howler. More to follow...
