Casualty star Neet Mohan reveals why he has changed the way he plays Rash

Metro12-07-2025
Last year, Neet Mohan took centre stage in a Casualty boxset titled Breaking Point. It saw his character, Rash Masum, spiral in the aftermath of his dad's sudden death.
He threw himself into work to try and distract himself from the grief and loneliness he was feeling but as the weeks ticked on, the dark cloud following him got bigger.
Amid this, gossip was circulating in Holby ED as to who could be the hospital whistle-blower. After Rash spotted dodgy Clinical Lead Patrick (Jamie Glover) tampering with a clamp in Resus, he called his boss out while in the lift.
Little did he know that brief moment would impact his reputation at Holby City Hospital entirely, as Patrick then attempted to destroy Rash, oblivious as to what was going on in his mind.
The beloved doctor became completely withdrawn over the duration of the boxset. Taking himself home, Rash reached a crisis point as he attempted to end his life.
He was found and ultimately saved by Tariq (Manpreet Bachu), his cousin.
Just over a year on from this, and a lot has changed.
While the Rash we see on our screens now is certainly a lot brighter and happier, the ordeal he went through and the recovery that followed after has, of course, impacted him greatly.
This is why it's incredibly important to actor Neet Mohan to consider what happened to Rash when approaching new storylines. In our latest chat, the star told me he has changed the way he plays the character, given what happened to him.
'I think you carry all of what that character has done, but you don't want to load the scenes with things that aren't written.'
'Obviously you've got to just serve the scene for what it is, but especially when other characters have come in and how that might resonate with what he's been through, and what each of them have been through.
'Sarah [Seggari] and I did some stuff recently as well, where we were kind of supporting each other a bit during the scenes. The story resonated with some of what she's just done in the previous boxset, and then there was a throwback to what Rash has been feeling as well.'
In terms of where Rash's head is at in this latest mini series, Neet said: 'I think he's slowly been recovering in the background. He's just sort of diligently doing his work.
He added: 'Tariq has left, so he's had to adapt to that. They were anchors for each other even though they'd ruffle each other's feathers. So I think now he's gone, Rash is finding his feet again. He's developed this slight friendship with Flynn, and Dylan has always been there as a mentor for him.
'We're meeting him at a point where he's got things a bit more under control. He feels more comfortable and he's also been noticed by Sunny, that's really nice for him. He's not really thought about a relationship or anything like that for a while, I think he's finding comfort after having that period.'
Sunny (Jamie Marie Leary) connected with Rash during a trip to the ED pharmacy. There was an immediate spark between the two staff members, and Rash's interest in her grew when she thoughtfully noted that his anti-depressant medication had changed.
Watching Rash speak to Sunny has been awkward in some places but wonderfully contrasted with the main storyline in this boxset, which has seen the paramedic team fall apart over someone tampering with drugs in the hospital.
'I thought it was great', Neet said of Rash and Sunny's journey in Supply and Demand.
'I think Rash is, at the moment, at a middle stage in his career. Some of his peers around him have become consultants, others have gone on and had families, but I think Rash is in a kind of middle ground.
'He's not much older than Jodie and Cam and Teddy, but he's not like Dylan either. I thought it was an interesting way to play a romance with someone who's just really open to it. Sunny has a child and Rash is totally fine with that, he just wants to get to know her.
'I think Jamie is a brilliant actress to play Sunny. She's just been great fun. She was great fun to work with.'
Neet has played Rash since 2017. With Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) busy helping Rash with his training, Neet hopes that one day his soap alter-ego will work his way even further up the ranks, and run Resus just like Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Dylan Keogh (William Beck). More Trending
'I'd love to see him be a consultant', he smiled.

'I'd love to see him be an equal medically with the likes of Stevie and Dylan and Flynn, because they are consultants.
'Obviously a consultant of 15 years is going to be far more experienced than a consultant who's just come up, but at least there's not a rank to pull that you know, you're on a different level medically, you're both now consultants.
'I'd love to see him step up to a consultant in the ED environment and fight his own amongst some of those other personalities. He's not someone who's taking orders from them, he's someone who can absolutely run Resus and step up when he needs to.'

All BBC Casualty spoilers for this week as character debates exit

Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) is a man with many strings to his bow in Casualty. After spending years working as a paramedic, he is now training as a member of the Hart team. Alongside this, Iain is putting his detective skills to the test, seemingly convinced he can work out who is responsible for the drugs theft and tampering going on in the hospital. His focus at the moment is on his best mate but in this week's episode, a new discovery means Iain is looking in the wrong place. Will he work out the truth? Elsewhere, Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) learns some news from her son, forcing her to potentially make a life-changing decision. Also, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) has a lot on his mind during his latest shift. He later heads out all alone, as we learn he is hiding a secret from his colleagues in the ED. We're now over halfway into the latest boxset Supply and Demand. With some storyline arcs reaching huge turning points, others are only just beginning. Here's everything you need to know about this week's episode of Casualty. Flynn isn't his usual self at work and seems unusually concerned about leaving his shift on time. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) wonders if Flynn has a date but when he snaps at her, she realises there's something going on with him. Later, Flynn races to a graveside and places some flowers down. It's someone's anniversary, but who is he mourning? Ngozi overhears Nicole's (Sammy T Dobson) phone call and worries she's moving away. Ngozi is frosty with Nicole after this, but when she spots that a baby needs cataracts, Nicole compliments Ngozi on her good work. After learning that Nicole has no intention of moving away, Ngozi finds son Obi outside. He reveals that he's deeply unhappy in England, and wants to go back to Nigeria. But will Ngozi leave? Acting on his suspicions, Iain confronts Jacob (Charles Venn) about the missing morphine. He takes offence that Iain would accuse him of stooping so low, and a fight breaks out between the friends. Teddy (Milo Clarke) and Jacob are then called to a shout at a leisure centre, where a swimmer is experiencing breathing problems. Teddy notices a chlorine leak, leading to the evacuation of the pool, and the arrival of Iain and the rest of the HART team. Things are tense, but Jacob and Iain need to form a temporary truce and work together. Iain heads into the building to rescue a lifeguard, but he realises a child is stuck inside as well. He risks his life to save her, knowing his oxygen tank is running low. After a scary situation involving Iain, he realises that Jacob isn't the morphine thief. He also reveals to Iain that he's been working a side job as a takeaway driver to afford Blake's private prescription. Unfortunately though, as they get back to the ED, they realise that Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) has reported Jacob for stealing the morphine. Indie (Naomi Wakszlak) and Cam agree to go for a drink after work. As the shift gets underway, Cam treats Bex Cross, who is high on drugs. Moments later, Cam is shocked when Bex accuses him of sexual assault after he fixed her catheter. Although Cam is innocent, Bex genuinely feels assaulted, confused by what she saw due to the drugs. Knowing he is innocent, Rida (Sarah Seggari) approaches Cam and puts him on non-clinical duties until she's completed a full investigation. More Trending This hurts Cam a lot and when Siobhan (Melanie Hill) learns of the development, she gently tells Rida that sometimes management is about having your team's back. Rida and Siobhan speak to Bex to hear her side of the story. She acknowledges that it was all a blur and takes back the allegation. Rida apologies to Cam and offers to buy dinner, but he's stressed and upset by the events and wants to go home. It is not the first time Cherry, 33, has appeared in her husband's music videos, with three other cameos under her belt. In 2022 fans said she had 'stolen the show' when she was seen in the final scene of Sheeran and Elton John's Merry Christmas music video wearing a blue cherry dress. That year she also played a cameo in his video to promote his Mathematics Tour in North America. The pair, who first met at school in Suffolk, re-created their classroom days in a promotional video for the latest leg of his world tour. Fans of the pop star were thrilled to see Cherry sitting at a desk behind Ed in the mock classroom where they pretend to be having a maths lesson. The video starts with Ed causing trouble by throwing a paper plane across the room, then Cherry passes him a love note. Cherry, who is wearing an orange jumper and glasses, then puts her head down and gets on with the pretend class, while Ed is distracted by songs playing from his mathematically named albums. The pair, who met at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham as children, sweetly have matching colourful pencil cases in the video, which were popular in the 2000's. Cherry also landed a role in Sheeran's music video for his single, Put It All On Me. All BBC Casualty spoilers for this week as legend is accused of drug theft

This week's episode of Casualty picks up where we left off in the previous instalment. Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) was last seen with her friend Badger, unaware that she was in real danger. She makes contact with the ambulance team tomorrow as she wakes up and finds Badger in a bad way. Paramedics attend, but this situation leads to Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) making a discovery about the drugs theft and tampering currently going on in the hospital. He makes a realisation about someone very close to him – but is he right? Also, Nicole Piper (Sammy T Dobson) makes a decision about an upcoming funeral, and a friendship may be forming between Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) and another doctor. Who would've thought? Here's all your spoilers for this week's episode of Casualty. The ambulance service receives a call from Indie, who is worried about her pal Badger, who has collapsed on the floor and is unresponsive. Once Iain and Teddy (Milo Clarke) arrive, Badger is loaded into their ambulance. Iain is disappointed to learn that Teddy joined Indie and Badger in taking the dodgy pills the night before. At the hospital, Cam (Barney Walsh) tells Indie that he's relieved she's safe. After a brief misunderstanding, he tells Indie that he's glad she isn't in a relationship with Badger, and it looks as though the two will actually get together. Later in the day, Indie manages to reconcile with Jan (Di Botcher), who informs Indie that there's a vacancy within the Holby ambulance service that she can take if she likes. After handing Badger over at the ED, Iain is approached by Jacob (Charles Venn), who requests a favour of a couple of grand without any explanation. Later on, Iain finds Teddy stealing heart medication from a recently deceased patient called Amos. Teddy explains to Iain that his heart problems have returned, but he hasn't been able to get hold of his medication since the recent shortages. Teddy knows that Amos' medication would've been destroyed, and doesn't want to lose HART's interest in him as a result of his health issues. While the development leaves Iain taken aback, he's able to work out that Teddy isn't the person stealing the morphine. Meanwhile, Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) remains convinced that one of the paramedics is responsible for the drugs tampering. She grows suspicious of Jacob when he hands over a patient in a wave of pain, and begins to question whether he's being truthful about the amount of morphine he's administering. Before the shift ends Iain tells the team that hospital grade morphine is being sold on the Holby's streets. Immediately after this, Jacob walks away. Once Faith raises her suspicions about Jacob to Iain, he's faced with the fact his best mate must be the one stealing the morphine. Nicole tends to an unconscious Hugo Atkinson, who is injured after being stabbed and falling down a flight of stairs. Hugo is accompanied by wife Kate and their young son Elias. Suspicions begin to rise, however, when Nicole realises Kate has a bruise on his arm that suggests she's been grabbed. Once Elias comments on whether his dad has become poorly because he shouted at his mum, the story behind Hugo's condition begins to unravel. Hugo dies in resus, and Kate reveals that she stabbed her partner after he threatened to take Elias away – because of her recurring drug habit. As Elias is taken into care, the situation makes Nicole change her mind about attending Maggie's funeral. She ignores Cassie's warnings and arrives at the church, and even decides to speak in front of Maggie's loved ones. Nicole says that she never trusted anyone until she met Maggie and, in a cathartic moment between the two of them later, Cassie accepts Nicole's help to get away from the drugs gang. Despite the rocky dynamic, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) believes that he and Flynn can unite on the written proposal on how to tackle the growing drugs crisis. More Trending Flynn puts some time aside to look over Dylan's proposal, but throws the document back on his desk when he realises the proposal is 68 pages long! Overwhelmed with demands from all directions, Flynn lies to Dylan and says that he's read the proposal, and then grants him permission to implement his plans. Things turn quickly, however, when Flynn overhears Dylan discussing a guilt-free amnesty with a patient. Flynn reacts by rebuking Dylan for stretching the ED's resources and giving into drug addicts, causing Dylan to realise that Flynn never actually read his proposal. After the bulletin is released that outlines morphine being sold on the streets, Flynn eventually admits that Dylan was right – they need to do something. Flynn decides that the amnesty can start and Dylan can lead it. Dylan feels surprised by the sudden change of heart, but is glad they're both on the same page at last.
