EastEnders' new Vicki Fowler actress has a very famous film star father
Actress Alice Haig has become the newest cast member of the BBC soap EastEnders after taking on the role of Vicki Fowler.
Vicki had previously been played by Scarlett Alice Johnson, who left the show in 2004.
It was previously announced that Vicki would be returning to the square following the death of Martin Fowler in the 40th anniversary live episode of EastEnders.
Actress Alice may be new to the show, but she has some very famous connections, including her film star father, David Haig.
David Haig is an actor and playwright best known for his role as Bernard in the hit 90s movie, Four Weddings and a Funeral.
The actor has also appeared in the likes of My Boy Jack, The Thin Blue Line, Yes, Prime Minister, COBRA and the award-winning show, Killing Eve.
David has starred alongside the likes of Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant, Robbie Coltrane, Rory Kinnear and Daniel Radcliffe.
Alice is one of David's five children he shares with his wife, Juila Gray, who acts under the name of Jane Galloway.
The new EastEnders star followed her father's footsteps by training as an actor at RADA.
Before making her debut on the soap, the actress had roles in Rain Dogs, This is Going to Hurt and in the Disney+ series Andor.

When the BBC first announced that Alice would be taking on the role of Vicki, she said: "I am so excited. I have always watched the show, and I was born in February 1985, so I'm the same age as EastEnders!
"It's so cool to be playing a character like Vicki - we think we know her, but a lot has changed."
Vicki previously left the square to move to Australia in the noughties but has returned to EastEnders along with new boyfriend Ross following the death of Martin Fowler.

Even with thunderstorm warnings and weather delays that pushed her set back by an hour, the proof was in the pudding at Flushing Meadows Corona Park during her headlining set at Gov Ball on Saturday, June 7. This marked my first time seeing the star live, and it definitely exceeded any and all expectations I once had. When it comes to attending Olivia's shows, I've had 'almost' situations too many times, and to be fair, tickets for both her SOUR and GUTS tours sold out instantly. So, I was just happy to be one of the thousands there to catch her Gov Ball gig. She kicked things off with her deep cut-turned-fan favorite 'Obsessed,' and without hesitation, everyone in my section—especially my Cosmo girls—screamed all the words back at her. Once she flew through her guitar solo and too hot to handle camera angles, she declared it was 'time to party'...and proceeded to play two of the most heartwrenching tracks of her career, 'Drivers License' and 'Traitor.' Of course, a standout moment was when she casually brought out The Talking Heads' David Byrne, another musical legend who has influenced artists from Lorde to Miley Cyrus, as a special guest. The duo performed the band's 1983 hit, 'Burning Down the House,' as they skipped around the stage and playfully danced with one another in matching red outfits. It was a moment of one iconic rockstar passing the baton to another, and, above all else, it reminded me that Olivia's music taste is truly top-tier. If the Grammy winner has mastered anything aside from her songwriting chops and live vocals, it's commanding a crowd. We were all wrapped around her finger for the 1.5-hour set. Whether she's belting to 'Favorite Crime' or letting loose on 'Get Him Back!' she doesn't miss a beat. She's in the moment, feeling every emotion, and radiating off the crowd's reactions—and trust me, we felt it, too. Shedding tears during her ballads and releasing all our grievances by screaming at the top of our lungs to 'All-American Bitch' almost felt like a form of therapy. Most child stars embark on a tumultuous journey out of their innocent images so they can burst through the box they're inevitably placed in. As a woman, it's a more layered experience because once they break out of that box, they're placed into another. Olivia crossed over at 17 and made a name for herself with the intimate intricacies of her lyrics, but she got ahead of becoming known only as that 'little Mexican girl that be crying.' (For the record, she's actually Filipino-American.) It's a rarity that someone's debut single becomes an instant classic, and 'Drivers License' did just that. In a couple of decades, SOUR will be seen in a similar vein as Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and Carole King's Tapestry, if not already. Our kids and grandkids will know Olivia Rodrigo's name and associate her with the highs and lows of their own stories as they put her records on. Her ability to embrace messiness and channel her angst into tracks like 'Jealousy Jealousy' and 'Love Is Embarassing' harnesses the human experience by scratching a certain itch in our minds—particularly that of young women trying to find their place in the world. Undoubtedly, she's found hers with nearly 46 million monthly listeners on Spotify and Billboard chart toppers that solidified her as a Main Pop Girl—but the crowd at Gov Ball proved that she's a bona fide rock star.

Family of Race Across The World's Sam Gardiner ‘overwhelmed' by support
The family of Race Across The World contestant Sam Gardiner have issued a message of thanks for the love and support following their son's death and also thanked people for donations to a fundraising campaign set up in his memory. The 24-year-old, who competed in the BBC One series alongside his mother Jo, died following a car crash last month. A JustGiving page launched in his memory by his family, in aid of National FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder), has so far raised more than £10,000. His mother said: 'We have been overwhelmed by the tens of thousands of messages of love and support on social media and in comments to press reporting. 'We would like to thank the BBC, Studio Lambert and everyone at Race Across The World production, fellow contestants and fans of the show for all their support at this terrible time. It has been very comforting to know that Sam touched so many people. — Race Across The World (@RATW_official) June 1, 2025 'I have been particularly moved by all the messages that Sam was an inspiration to many who have been impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. 'We adopted Sam and he was diagnosed with FASD. As viewers of season two will recall, this was a big challenge both for Sam and for us as his parents. 'National FASD helped us on that journey. If some good comes of this tragedy, it will be that FASD is better understood.' Mr Gardiner was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R estate when it came off the road and rolled before landing on its side. The accident happened on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle, on Monday May 26 and he died on May 29 from his injuries, his family said last week. Broadcast in March 2020, Sam and Jo ventured across Mexico and Argentina as part of the second series of the BBC show. Mr Gardiner's father Andrew said: 'When the news broke last week, friends asked how they could help. It's very humbling to see the RATW family rally to this worthy cause.' The National Organisation for FASD says on its official website that it 'provides support to people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, their families and communities, campaigns to raise public awareness, and promotes relevant policies and practices'. The website also describes FASD as resulting 'when prenatal alcohol exposure affects the developing brain and body.. It says: 'FASD is a spectrum. Each person with FASD is affected differently. 'While more than 400 conditions can co-occur, FASD is at its core a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. All people with FASD have many strengths. Early diagnosis and appropriate support are essential, especially for executive functioning.' A message on the official National FASD Instagram account said: 'Sam lived his life full of love, exuberance and adventure as seen on BBC's Race Across the World. 'National FASD is both humbled and honoured to help carry on his legacy via donations coming from hundreds.' A private funeral will be held later this month.

EastEnders star to leave Albert Square after 4 years to seek new opportunities
Bobby Brazier is leaving popular BBC soap EastEnders after four years, according to reports. The actor, who is the son of late reality star Jade Goody and former footballer Jeff Brazier, was named runner up of Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. Brazier, who plays Freddie Slater in the BBC soap, will leave Albert Square by the end of this year, reports The Sun. The newspaper said an EastEnders spokeswoman revealed: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' A TV insider told The Sun that EastEnders bosses met with Bobby at a time when he was already thinking about making his exit. They added: 'The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet. 'The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.' Bobby's departure news comes as Lacey Slater is also taking a break from the soap as Stacey Slater while Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater), Jake Wood (Max Branning) and Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) return to Albert Square. Newsquest has approached the BBC for comment.
