Committee to conduct lawyers' assn election
Kanpur: The elders committee of The Lawyers Association on Friday took the charge and convened a meeting . The elders committee will conduct the election of The Lawyers Association.
June 20 is the last date for depositing membership subscription. Thereafter final electoral list would be provided so that election outline could be fixed. Meanwhile a delegation of advocates met with elders committee and urged to impose ban on feasts and hoarding & banner war during election. He stated that as per the guidelines issued by the Allahabad High Court hoardings, posters, banners, banquets, meetings and parties in guest houses and party lawns are completely prohibited in elections of the Advocates Association. There are talks of involvement of many outsiders and unruly elements in these feasts, due to which image of the advocates was getting tarnished.tnn

SRINAGAR: Srinagar's historic Jamia Masjid was locked and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest Saturday on Eid-ul-Adha, denying devotees the opportunity to offer prayers and provoking a backlash from many, including CM Omar Abdullah. Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which looks after the mosque management, said the gates were closed early Saturday morning and police deployed outside. Mirwaiz and Hurriyat Conference chairman Umar Farooq's family has traditionally led prayers at the mosque for generations. 'It is deeply regrettable that once again, people were not allowed to offer Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid,' Omar said. He expressed helplessness, saying law and order in J&K Union territory fell under the purview of lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha's administration. A two-judge vacation bench of the Allahabad High Court has come down on the Uttar Pradesh government over a delay in disbursing ex-gratia compensation to the families of those who died in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on January a petition filed by one Uday Pratap Singh, a bench of Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain said once the government had announced compensation, it was its "bounden duty" to ensure timely and dignified court also expressed concerns over the body of a stampede victim being handed over to her family without any autopsy or postmortem conducted in a state-run medical college. "It is alarming that the state authorities appear to have handed over the body of the wife of the petitioner to his son on February 5, 2025. Four months have passed and no part of the ex-gratia compensation announced by the state has been offered to the petitioner," the court chief standing counsel submitted that since the petitioner has not raised that claim, the stage has not arrived for it to be court said, "Prima facie, we find the stand taken to be untenable and smacking of apathy to the plight of the citizen.
