World Matchplay Darts 2025 schedule, time, TV channel and odds

Metro19-07-2025
The 2025 World Matchplay gets underway at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday night, with the defending champion in action.
Luke Humphries lifted the Phil Taylor Trophy last year, beating Michael van Gerwen 18-15 in the final.
The world number one is a leading contender to claim the title again, alongside the likes of world champion Luke Littler and the bang in form Gerwyn Price.
The World Matchplay is notoriously difficult to win on more than one occasion, though, with only three players ever managing multiple Matchplay titles.
The Power dominated the event for so long, winning it 16 times, with only Van Gerwen (three) and Rod Harrington (two) boasting more than one title..
Humphries could join that very small club this year, as could James Wade, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright, Dimitri van den Bergh, Rob Cross and NAthan Aspinall.
Littler is favourite, though, despite never winning a match in the tournament before as he lost in the opening round to MVG on debut 12 months ago.
The tournament runs from Saturday July 19 to the final on Sunday July 27.
Sky Sports will be showing the tournament, on Sky Sports Main Event and Action. Streaming is available on Sky Go and for non-Sky Sports subscribers through Now TV.

Speaking ahead of his title defence, Cool Hand said: 'This would be a very, very special title to retain.
'The World Matchplay is one of those tournaments I wanted to win more than anything, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
'I think the venue is so iconic, the fans all love their darts and they just create a brilliant atmosphere.
'Some of the greatest highlights in darting history have been created at the World Matchplay, and I think that's why it's so prestigious.'

Plenty of Wrexham AFC games selected for live TV coverage

The return at The Racecourse finished up 1-1. Wrexham will hope their home clash with Coventry City won't be a Halloween horror show! Plenty of treats and no tricks will be the wish for the October 31 meeting, which gets underway at 8pm. Just a few days later, Wrexham's lengthy trek to Portsmouth - on November 5 (8pm) - is sure to provide fireworks for a TV audience. Then, on Wednesday, December 10, the Reds' trip to Hull City will be the next TV match, starting at 8pm. The all-Wales clash between Swansea City and Wrexham will be shown at 8pm on Friday, December 19, while it's sure to be a Christmas cracker when Phil Parkinson's Reds host Sheffield United on Boxing Day (5.30pm). Each regular League weekend fixture round will see up to 10 live EFL fixtures shown, with matches on a Saturday afternoon at 12.30pm, as well as frequent slots on a Friday night and Sunday afternoon. There will be additional selected picks on a Thursday and Monday evening. The next batch of broadcast selections will be confirmed by November 7 for all matches to be played between the end of the third round of the FA Cup and the last weekend of February 2026.

Luke Littler hits bullseye again with new venture ready to rake in a fortune

The star is raking in a fortune from fans buying his playing kit, hoodies, darts sets, £17 T-shirts and £200 signed photos. The 'Nuke Merchandise Shop' has just opened for business and its takings are set apart from his darts winnings. Teen darts sensation Luke Littler now has his own shop to cash in on merchandise and beat the bootleggers. The star is raking in a fortune from fans buying his playing kit, hoodies, darts sets, £17 T-shirts and £200 signed photos. ‌ The 'Nuke Merchandise Shop' has just opened for business and its takings are set apart from his darts winnings. The canny world champion has also set up a property firm and recently applied to trademark his name in the US. ‌ He applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to sell clothing and sportswear. Attorneys have denied the application for the right to use 'Luke the Nuke Littler'. He was given a "Notice of Provisional Full Refusal". ‌ They told him: "USPTO must receive the applicant's response within six months of the date on which the notification was sent.' He must remedy the list of issues raised after the 'total refusal' ruling. The Warrington whiz needs to clarify the trading classes of goods. He already has similar trademark protection in the UK to prevent bootleggers using his name. If his US application is successful, it will grant him exclusive rights in connection with specific goods or services. Crucially, it also allows him to take legal action against anyone who infringe upon those rights. Littler, 18, is the reigning world champion after lifting the trophy in January in front of 3,000 delirious fans at London's Alexandra Palace. He is only the fifth player in history to achieve darts' triple crown. He beat all comers to the World Championship, Premier League and World Matchplay and has won almost £2m prize money from major events. ‌ His latest move is to maximise earnings away from the oche. In the PDC Order of Merit, which is calculated over two years, he banked a cool £1.5m. That covered the UK and Belgian Opens. He picked up £500,000 from the World Championship and another £200,000 from the World Matchplay. In the Premier League, Littler earned £60,000 for his six nightly wins. He claimed a set of 18-carat gold darts worth £30,000 for a nine-darter he hit during the regular season. He then collected £125,000 for finishing as runner-up. He has also scored a series of money-spinning deals and tie-ins with major partners. He has worked with fashion brand Boohoo, the Sidemen, a popular YouTube group, and McDonald's.

But earlier today, he traded his darts for fishing rods as he tried his hand at catching the real – albeit slippery – thing. He was joined by fellow darts world champions Rob Cross and Adrian Lewis. Littler, 18, was seen sitting by the side of the lake under an umbrella with a box full of bait. He wore a specially printed Target fishing hoodie that said "Luke Littler MBE" on the back.
