A Sacramento, California, woman was concerned that her family wouldn't accept her sexuality, but what happened next took her by surprise.
Dipika Dutt (@itsnotpika) who was born in Fiji, posted a clip on TikTok with the text overlay: "What if my Indian family doesn't accept me being gay."
The clip then cuts to a heartwarming scene with Dutt's girlfriend, Mary, sitting next to her grandmother, who feeds Mary a bite of food, while smiling and laughing together.

"I never thought I would find someone that I can bring home to my family, but I knew when I did do it that they would be the one," the 27-year-old told Newsweek. "It makes me overwhelmingly happy that they love her so much—even more than me sometimes. I'm glad they gave her a chance."
Telling her family she was gay wasn't easy—her mom and sister were the first to know. "They were more shocked than anything," Dutt told Newsweek. "When it came to my brothers, it was really awkward. One day, I just came over to my brother's house with [Mary] and everyone was really quiet."
Thankfully, the silence didn't last long. Despite Dutt's fears—especially considering she was the first openly gay person in her Indian family—acceptance came more quickly than she ever expected.
"I expected it to be very bad but, honestly, once they met my partner, they all fell in love with her and accepted it very quickly," Dutt said. "Even my grandma, she was in shock, but once the shock wore off, she was so happy for me. It made me realize, if someone loves you, all they want is for you to be happy, and that's exactly what my family did."
Dutt's clip has been viewed over 742,000 times and received hundreds of comments from other users; they were overjoyed for the couple who have been together for almost six years.
"I love this for you guys," one user wrote.
"OMG [oh my God] the genuine joy in your grandmother's face," another posted.
The clip also sparked some skepticism. "A lot of people actually don't believe that my grandma thinks that's my [girlfriend]," Dutt told Newsweek. "They think that my grandma assumes she's just a friend—probably because, [in] Indian culture, it's very hard to come out to your elders."
Dutt has "come out" to every member of her family, and, now, Mary isn't just accepted—she is a beloved member of the family.
"If I come to a family event without Mary, they always ask where she is, and they blow up her phone saying they miss her," Dutt said. "I love sharing things like this because I'm so proud of my family."

Reason Dad Invites Ex-Wife's New Baby Over Melts Hearts

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A heartwarming Instagram reel has gone viral for capturing an extraordinary example of co-parenting. In the clip, a woman's ex-partner takes her baby, whom she shares with her new partner, for a visit simply because the baby's sister missed him. The woman, Gwen, spoke to Newsweek about the video which reached over 2 million views and how her ideal co-parenting family came about. "You know you co-parent well when your ex has your new baby over just because his sister misses him," Gwen captioned the video, pointing out her baby's older sister and her ex of 11 years in the clip. Photos from Gwen's Instagram reel of her blended family. @thesmallbizfixer/Instagram Gwen shared the spontaneous nature of the visit, which coincidentally fell on her anniversary. "The visit was on our anniversary and my oldest FaceTimed me saying she missed her brother, and we jokingly said, 'then come get him'—and 10 minutes later, she was walking in the door and grabbing his stuff," Gwen recounted. Both she and her fiancé were "a little shocked," but the baby's dad was only concerned about making sure he had enough snacks packed. Gwen revealed that their co-parenting journey wasn't always so harmonious. "Our co-parenting journey started out amicable, until I started dating after our break up," she said. "Then, it was a horror movie for about a year." However, through persistent effort and many conversations, they achieved a breakthrough. "We are now we all are finally on the same page. All three of us," she said. Gwen said she hopes her video serves as an inspiration for other parents navigating similar situations. "I truly hope other moms look at this video and remember that it's not about us or how we were wronged by our exes," she said. "It's about creating positive memories around family for our kids. In a world full of 'bitter,' be the parent you would have always dreamed of and stick to it." What Did the Comments Say? The Instagram comments section was filled with praise and similar stories of successful co-parenting. "I've seen some divorce stories that end well like these too," one person wrote. "Both parents got re-married, but they share custody, and the new spouses of each parent actually put some effort in the co-parenting as well. In the end, the kid got like, four parents." Another offered an anecdote of family harmony: "I have a friend whose parents divorced. His mom and stepmom are best friends and conspire (with affection) against his dad. He has a half-brother who loves both moms." The video's positive message resonated especially, however, with those who had experienced less friendly separations. "Coming from a complete divorce fail, thank you both for seeing and knowing love will always need to come first in what that child needs to see, and so happy he is accepting of your son," one commenter wrote. "You guys are great people and the world needs more."

Man Thought Cats Were Low-Maintenance, Then He Got One

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Cats have a reputation for being solitary and independent, but one pet owner recently found out the hard way that his feline may after all not be as low-maintenance as he previously thought. In a viral TikTok video shared on Thursday under the username @supurmario, the poster, 34-year-old David from the United Kingdom, shows what his 1-year-old cat, Mario, is up to on a random day for no specific reason, and internet users can't cope with it. "Cats are low-maintenance, they said … My cat," David writes in the clip, as the tuxedo cat is filmed knocking things over, shredding items, and causing chaos wherever he goes, just like a tornado. "It's been 1 year since we adopted Mario. He's really settled in … a little too well. Here's 20 seconds of his most chaotic moments so far …" the caption says. David told Newsweek that Mario was adopted as a tiny 4-week-old kitten, and right from the very first moment they met, the feline stole his heart and then very quickly his sanity, too. From left: The poster David cuddles Mario, before the cat gets up to unleash chaos around the house. I work from home, which means we spend a lot of time together; or, more accurately, he supervises me while plotting his next act of chaos," David said. "I started filming his antics just for fun, but people seem to really connect with his very 'relatable' brand of mayhem and it's somehow turned into a bit of a viral journey. That said, Mario remains completely unbothered by his growing internet fame; as long as the treats keep coming, he's happy," he said. We have all bought into the idea that felines are independent creatures and don't need their humans, but the truth is that domestic cats do need the right environment to thrive. This, according to Pet MD, includes friendly and predictable social interaction with humans. It also includes providing a safe space with anything your feline might need for their care, providing opportunity for play and predatory behavior, and creating the right environment to suit their sense of smell. The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 164,000 views and more than 13,000 likes on the platform. One user, Mark Lee, commented: "Seems pretty low maintenance to me, he entertains himself with no input required from you!" JoolzDee posted: "My tuxedo is just like this and this morning by while in the bathroom I noticed him looking at me from atop the door." Zilkrix added: "We have two beautiful cats. Low maintenance and angels, so we decided to get two more. One of the new ones is the reason we will never get another cat again. He's like 5 cats in one."
