Missing after viral IndiGo slap incident. Assam man found at railway station: What happened to him? How was he tracked?
Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, 32, had reportedly suffered a panic attack on board an Indigo flight on Thursday. He was slapped by a fellow passenger, a video of which had recently gone viral.
Mazumdar, who hails from Assam, had boarded a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata on Thursday. He travelled on Flight 6E-2387 when he experienced a panic episode. The next day, he was supposed to take another flight from Kolkata to Silchar.
Mazumdar has been reported missing following the in-flight incident.
Mazumdar was reportedly found at a railway station in the Barpeta district of Assam, nearly 800 km from Kolkata, where the plane had landed, and 400 km from Silchar, which was supposed to be his destination, NDTV reported.
According to an Indian Express report, Mazumdar had taken a train from Kolkata to Assam, instead of his scheduled second flight that was to land at Silchar.
'The individual arrived at Barpeta in Assam after the flight landed in Kolkata. He took the train to Barpeta and is now on his way to Silchar," a police station officer in-charge was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.
Mazumdar was reportedly travelling to meet his ailing father. His original plan was to take the Mumbai-Kolkata flight, which he did; and then take a connecting flight to Silchar, which he did not.
Instead, he took a train for the second leg of his journey (after the IndiGo slap incident).
His family had gone to the airport in Silchar on Friday to pick him up, but he was nowhere to be found.
When the video of his panic attack went viral, the family panicked and called his phone. He did not answer repeated calls, worsening their fears.
By Saturday night, he was located to Barpeta. It was not immediately clear why he did not take calls.
A video showing a passenger slapping another flyer, Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, on board an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata went viral on social media earlier this week.
The incident took place on flight 6E138 after landing in Kolkata.
The video captured a seated passenger suddenly slapping Mazumdar who was standing in the aisle and surrounded by crew members at the time.
A crew member immediately intervened and can be heard saying, 'Sir, mat kijiye. Don't do that.'
Meanwhile, the person recording the video questioned the attacker, asking, 'Mara kyun?' (Why did you hit him?).
He then added, 'Problem sabko hai, lekin haath nahi uthana chahiye tha' (Everyone has problems, but you still shouldn't hit someone).
The attacker, identified as Hafijul Rahaman, was detained by security personnel upon arrival in Kolkata and handed over to police. He was later released.
Responding to the incident, IndiGo stated that such "unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable."
The airlines barred the man who had slapped Mazumdar, and said, "Following due diligence, the incident involving an unruly customer has been formally reported to the relevant authorities for necessary action."

"In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behaviour on board flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions," the airline said.

JU min assault: KP on way to Del for scholar's custody
Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Thursday received transit remand from a Delhi local court to bring former Jadavpur University student Hindol Mazumdar to Kolkata. A cop team is likely to reach the city with the research scholar by Friday morning, after which, he will be produced in a local court in Kolkata where cops will seek his police remand. Mazumdar was detained by Delhi Police at the IGI airport around 10.30 am on Wednesday, upon his arrival from Spain, for allegedly being involved in the harassment of education minister Bratya Basu at JU in March. Lalbazar said he was one of the chief conspirators behind the JU protest. "He directed others to the probable places of protest and took care of logistics," said an officer. "Their WhatsApp chats revealed Mazumdar's involvement. Mazumdar, from Spain, instructed attackers from Jadavpur to surround Basu, attack him, and target his car. He was primarily arrested on charges of inciting the attack," an officer said. The cops purportedly shared his WhatsApp messages where he made multiple comments, one of which read, "No organisation other than ours will remain in Jadavpur. " Mazumdar is conducting research in Spain, pursuing a PhD in biomedicine and clinical science at the University of Granada under the EU Marie Sklodowska Curie Action Fellowship. He is a long-time associate of the "people's movement" and one of the founding members of the Democratic Youth Students' Association (DYSA). He got a notice on March 16, prompting him to mail the police, saying, "Since Nov 2023, I have been living in Spain, and working towards my doctoral thesis. On March 1, 2025, I was in Spain and, therefore, the question of my presence in Jadavpur on the material day does not and cannot arise at all." "I learned about Majumdar's arrest from the media, I have no separate statement on the matter," said Basu. Both of Mazumdar's parents are retired JU professors. His mother Saswati said, "This is harassment. We will fight the case legally." JUTA general secretary Partha Pratim Ray said, "The arrest shows the revengeful attitude of police, who are trying to damage the career of a student. We want Mazumdar's unconditional release." Jadavpur University Alumni Organisation stated, "This arrest is a well-planned effort by the state to suppress dissenting voices." Students from across political organisations, like SFI and AISA, also condemned the "wrongful arrest. " DYSA said the arrest is based on a "completely fictional narrative woven by the police forces". Clothing designer duped of Rs 55 lakh by ‘cruise ship officer' who proposed to marry her
A Pune-based clothing designer was duped of Rs 55 lakh by a cyber criminal who posed as a cruise ship officer of Italian descent and promised to marry her. An FIR was registered at the cybercrime police station by a clothing designer, who is in her early 40s, and runs her own designing firm in Pune. In March this year, the complainant got a friend request on Instagram from a person, who claimed to be an officer with a cruise liner company. Over the next few days, the user sent several photos of him in uniform on a cruise ship and even told her that his mother lives in India to gain the complainant's trust . The two started communicating on a daily basis. During a routine phone call, the fraudster, the complainant, and an elderly woman—claiming to be the 'cruise officer's mother'—participated in a conference call, further gaining the complainant's trust. Subsequently, the fraudster proposed to the victim, who agreed to marry him. He promised her that he would come to India in December later this year when talks about the marriage would be held in presence of his mother. Some time later, to further gain her trust, the fraudster shared a bank account number, login password and other details with the complainant and asked her to make a payment for a shipment of machinery he had ordered. The fraudster later told her that he had ordered another shipment of machinery worth Rs 4 crores. He again asked her to make a payment, but it did not succeed. The fraudster then told that his boss was in India and the complainant could make the payment of Rs 55 lakh as the initial payment for the shipment. The fraudster promised that he would return the money as soon as possible. The complainant was manipulated into making nine transfers totalling Rs 55 lakh to mule accounts in banks at Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu, Vikaspuri, Janakpuri and Azadpur in Delhi, Idukki and Malappuram in Kerala, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. Later, the fraudster sent a document to the complainant saying it was related to emergency leave he was applying for at his cruise liner company. After initial reading of the form, the complainant suspected it to be fake. She mailed the cruise liner company the fraudster had claimed to be an employee of and realised she had been cheated. She subsequently approached the cyber crime police station and lodged an FIR. A probe has been launched in the case. The Indian Express has reported earlier that carefully fabricated social media profiles were being used by cyber frauds to exploit the emotional and financial vulnerabilities of the victims in social engineering scams.

Maharashtra: Eight Arrested for Beating 21-Year-Old Muslim Man to Death Over ‘Closeness With Hindu Girl'
The men, whom some reports identify as members of a Hindutva group, also assaulted Suleman Pathan's mother and sister when they tried to come to his rescue. New Delhi: A 21-year-old Muslim man in Maharashtra was paraded and beaten to death and his family members assaulted when they attempted to save him over suspicion that he was close to a 17-year-old Hindu girl, reports say. Some of the reports have identified the accused as members of a Hindutva group. Indian Express has reported, quoting police, that eight people have been arrested from around Jalgaon since the incident took place on August 11. It is not known which sections have been invoked against them. Four who were arrested on August 12 are Abhishek Rajkumar Rajput (22), Ghanshyam alias Suraj Bihari Lal Sharma (25), Deepak Bajirao (20) and Ranjat alias Ranjit Ramkrishna Matade (48). Four more who were arrested on August 13 are Aditya Devade, Krishna Teli, Shejwal Teli and Rishikesh Teli, all in their mid-20s. Suleman Rahim Khan Pathan, of the Chhoti Betawad village, was attacked after he was seen with a Hindu woman from the same village at a cafe in Jamner, a relative named Abdullah Pathan told Scroll. He told the outlet that Suleman had left home for Jamner to fill a police recruitment form, but said he did not know anything about the girl. This cafe was just metres from the local police station, reported Maktoob Media. The Indian Express report quoted a policeman as having said that 8-10 people showed up and began checking his mobile phone after snatching it from him. Once intercepted, reported Maktoob, Suleman was dragged into a vehicle, driven to three or four different spots, and repeatedly assaulted before being brought back to his village for the fatal attack. When Suleman's parents and sister tried to rescue him, the men assaulted them as well, the police officer quoted by Indian Express said. Suleman's father Rahim was quoted by the newspaper as having said that his 80-year-old father – Suleman's grandfather – was also punched and kicked when he tried to step in. Eventually, Suleman lost consciousness. After the accused left him for dead, villagers took him a hospital in a bike. The hospital, reported Scroll, refused to admit him as it did not have the specialisation needed to treat him. The family then took him to a civil hospital, where he was declared dead at 4.30 pm. Suleman's father has said that the story of him and the girl having been in a relationship was entirely concocted. 'There was not a single inch on my son's body without wounds. They left him battered. When we ran to save him, they turned their violence on me, my wife, and my daughter. Suleman was my only son. I will not rest until the culprits face the harshest punishment the law can give, exactly for what they did to him,' Rahim told Maktoob. Former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel has been among those to post about the incident on X. He wrote: "Another case of mob lynching. 20 year old college student beaten to death in front of his parents and sister by goons in a villlage in Jamner taluka, Jalgaon on Monday afternoon. Suleman khan was attacked on the charge that he was talking to a girl from another community. Police now pressurising family to do last rites while family is demanding arrests of all accused. Request Jalgaon @JalgaonPolice to take strictest action against the culprits. @DGPMaharashtra @Devendra_Office."
