PAS leaders may have broken laws with cow, bull analogy, says minister
Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said said the PAS leaders may have breached several provisions in the Penal Code with their remarks. PETALING JAYA : Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said said PAS leaders may have broken several laws by comparing women leaders to animals and citing the Quran in defending the analogy. In a post on X, Azalina said the PAS leaders may have breached several provisions, namely Sections 509, 504 and 298A of the Penal Code. The three sections deal with insulting the modesty of a person, intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace, and actions that cause disharmony, respectively. She did not name the leaders, but uploaded two articles which identified Maran PAS Youth information chief Salman Al Farisi and party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. 'To whom it may concern: if you are still comparing women leaders to animals in 2025, congrats! 'Do better, or lawyer up,' she said, in an apparent sarcastic jab at Salman and Tuan Ibrahim, who had defended the youth leader. Azalina also said those who incorporated religion into their argument could be committing an offence under Section 507B of the Penal Code that deals with insulting words. On Monday, Malaysiakini reported Salman as comparing men to bulls, and women to cows when emphasising the importance of men in leadership roles, based on his experience in livestock farming. Salman had claimed that a cow would usually lead the herd, while bulls serve to protect the herd. He said society should, therefore, avoid elevating women to leadership positions, and that men should assume leadership roles in accordance with Quranic teachings. Earlier today, Tuan Ibrahim defended Salman, saying such analogies were used in literary works and not meant to degrade women. 'In Islamic literature in the past, there are works such as 'Kalilah wa Dimnah', which are filled with analogies and stories about animals, used to convey teachings and moral values,' he was quoted as saying. He said he saw nothing sexist about Salman's remark.

PKR Youth leader considers legal response to PAS info chief
PKR Youth vice-chief Nabil Halimi (left) has received a letter of demand from PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari over comments on a cartoon. PETALING JAYA : PKR Youth vice-chief Nabil Halimi says he is considering his legal options after receiving a letter of demand from PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claiming that he was slandered. The issue is centred on a social media post by Fadhli, the Pasir Mas MP, featuring a cartoon which appeared to belittle Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's role in mediating the Thailand-Cambodia conflict. Fadhli previously said he would be sending letters of demand to an MP and a political party's youth wing leader after claiming they had slandered him, based on their misunderstanding of the social media post. 'I am reviewing the contents of the letter and will be seeking legal advice,' said Nabil in a Facebook post. 'I remain committed to defending my right to freedom of expression, and I believe that differences of opinion should not be misinterpreted or used as grounds to suppress constructive criticism.' The cartoon, which has since been deleted, had depicted a monkey acting as a judge between a goat and a sheep fighting over bananas, with the caption: 'The goat and sheep shouldn't need a monkey to mediate their banana dispute.' Anwar brokered a July 29 ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia in his capacity as Asean chairman after a July 28 meeting in Putrajaya, attended by Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting prime minister, Phumtham Wechayachai. The ceasefire ended five days of intense border fighting between the two Asean neighbours, which left at least 32 to 43 dead.

Social media user pan PAS Youth info chief over sexist remarks online
PETALING JAYA: Social media users and women leaders have panned Maran PAS Youth information chief Muhammad Salman Al Farisi's sexist remarks where he had compared women in leadership positions to female cows in a herd. A user using the handle @wadahdaily said in an X post that PAS leaders kept comparing people to animals. 'PAS leaders keep comparing people to animals. This time, it's women who are the target. He said, 'don't follow the female cow',' @wadahdaily said in the post. User @KertasM01008886, meanwhile, said the analogy comparing women to a female cow was insensitive. 'This is an example of extreme patriarchy mentality,' said the X user. Another user, @ekstensialsial, said the PAS leader who made the statement should apologise In a social media post on Sunday (Aug 3), Muhammad Salman Al Farisi had likened women leaders to cows. 'When a female cow is appointed as the leader, she decides everything, while the males around her only know how to graze the crops,' he said in a social media post. 'That's why, if possible, we shouldn't be like cows that elevate their 'female' as their leader,' he said. Meanwhile, a social media user going by Asmawi Ahmad, in a Facebook post, reminded Salman that the Temerloh MP from PAS is a woman. 'I would be embarrassed to admit that I am a PAS member,' he said. Condemning the remarks, Bidadari Malaysia Welfare Organisation founder Napsiah Khamis Maharan described the statement as sexist, rude, and reflective of a backwards mindset. PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reportedly defended Muhammad Salman, saying that the statement should be taken as a form of analogy in writing and was not intended to insult women. Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional Wanita chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said Muhammad Salman's opinion was a personal opinion and did not reflect PAS' official stance.
