The traffic police in Thane have issued an advisory for I & U girder work on parts of Ghodbunder Road.
Thane's Kasarvadavali Traffic Subdivision, under the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), has issued a traffic advisory in light of the ongoing construction work for Mumbai Metro Line 4. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), in collaboration with the construction engineering company J. Kumar Infraprojects Ltd., will undertake I & U girder installation, as well as T & L precast work, on specific sections of Ghodbunder Road.
This work will take place during nighttime hours—from 11 PM to 4 AM—between June 22 and July 14. Commuters are advised to expect diversions and possible delays during this period.
The construction work will be carried out in two main areas: from Nagalabunder Signal to the Indian Oil Pump, and from Nagalabunder to Bhayanderpada, as per the Free Press Journal.
To carry out these activities safely, certain parts of the Thane-Ghodbunder Road will be temporarily closed to heavy vehicles at specific locations. This traffic advisory is meant to reduce traffic jams and help vehicles move more smoothly in the area.
The notice has been issued by Pankaj Shirsat, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Department, Thane City.

– Due to ongoing I & U girder work near Pillar No. 85, entry will be closed for heavy vehicles from Thane Ghodbunder Channel to Gaimukh Station.
– These vehicles will be redirected from Pillar No. 85, taking a reverse route toward Porbandar Thane Main Road, then turning right at Pillar No. 102 to continue via the main road in front of the Indian Oil Pump.
– For light vehicles during the same period, traffic will be routed through the service road near Pillar No. 85 and will rejoin the main road near the Indian Oil Pump to reach their destinations.
Additional Entry Closures and Alternate Routes During Girder Work
– While the I & U girder work is in progress on the Ghodbandar-Thane stretch, all types of vehicles heading toward Thane will face entry restrictions near Nagla Bandar and Asha Wine Shop.
– As an alternative, vehicles can take a detour through Nagla Bandar Depot (Pillars 72 and 73) and pass by Asha Wine Shop before rejoining the main road near Lodha Splendora on Ghodbunder Road to continue their journey.
It is to be noted that these traffic restrictions do not apply to essential service vehicles, including police, fire brigade, ambulances, oxygen supply vehicles, and other emergency services.

Minister orders passenger bays under Metro 4 stations after staircase safety lapse

Thane: Transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday instructed MMRDA officials to develop passenger bays and transport hubs beneath the elevated Metro Line 4 stations along Ghodbunder Highway. The development came after Sarnaik pointed out how the staircases of the eight elevated metro stations on the route were descending directly in the middle of the widened highway following a TOI report in May. We highlighted the situation where a possible coordination failure between two MMRDA departments led the Metro 4 route team to construct the stairways landing on the same medians, which were scheduled for removal by another team working on highway expansion leading to potential wastage of public money and delayed schedules in addition to posing risks for metro passengers. Later, the Thane UBT also wrote to the metropolitan commissioner. Meanwhile, Sarnaik met MMRDA officials last month, following which a site visit was scheduled for Monday, where the minister instructed them to formulate a remedial plan. Sarnaik indirectly admitted the lapse, saying, "We are facing a technical situation. The staircases between Gaimukh and Kapurbawdi currently land in the stretch between the main road and service lanes, posing potential risks for passengers getting hit by passing highway traffic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your donations can help this little boy see again clearly Donate For Health Donate Now Undo To fix this, I have directed reserving the service lane below each station as passenger bays and hubs for feeder buses, autos, and taxis." Sarnaik said the proposed modifications will be submitted to Shinde by month-end for approval. "No extra cost is expected as the existing contractor will handle the modifications. We aim to begin Metro 4 trial runs by early 2026," he added. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai

Gas tanker rams pillar of under-construction metro bridge; no injuries

Thane, July 28 (PTI) A tanker carrying 16 tonnes of Propylene gas crashed into a pillar of the under-construction metro bridge on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, causing a temporary disruption in traffic on Monday, police said. Fortunately, there was no leakage or injury. The situation was brought under control after four hours, a senior official said. 'As per the initial information, a gas tanker was on its way from Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai to Ankleshwar. The driver lost control at the wheel and the vehicle crashed into a metro pillar near Manpada Bridge around 9:50 AM," said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation. According to Tadvi, the cabin of the tanker sustained damage in the crash. However, immediate response teams, including the traffic police, fire department, and the disaster management cell, rushed to the site with a fire engine and a pickup vehicle. 'After about four hours of effort, the tanker was successfully moved to the side of the road," Tadvi added. PTI COR NSK Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
