What Do You Think Of Mumbai Metro-11 From Anik Depot To Gateway Of India? Tell MMRCL By August 20
Last Updated: Mumbai Metro 11 will have underground stations covering areas such as Wadala Truck Terminal, Sewri, Byculla, Bhendi Bazaar, and Crawford Market, terminating near Gateway of India The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has invited suggestions and objections from citizens on the proposed 17.5-km Metro Line-11, which will stretch from Anik Depot to Gateway of India, passing through key locations like Bhendi Bazaar and Nagpada. The project, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is a key part of Mumbai's expanding metro network and aims to enhance connectivity in the city's eastern and southern corridors. Metro-11: Anik Depot to Gateway of India Metro Line-11 will have underground stations covering major areas such as Wadala Truck Terminal, Sewri, Byculla, Bhendi Bazaar, and Crawford Market, terminating near Gateway of India. Only Anik Depot will be at ground level. Metro Line 11 will link with Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavli), the Aqua Line, the Monorail, and major suburban railway stations like Byculla and CSMT, making it a vital interchange route in the city's public transport network. The MMRCL published the alignment and environmental and social impact assessment report for the proposed Wadala-Gateway of India underground Metro Line 11. According to the report, over 2,200 trees will either be cut or transplanted, and 796 structures are likely to be impacted by the construction work, affecting a total of 801 families. As per the social impact assessment report for this proposed metro 11, total permanent land requirement for the project is estimated at 24.65 hectares, including 15.85 hectares for the proposed depot at Anik Bus Depot, which will be developed jointly with the existing bus facility. While most of the alignment is underground, the project will require land for entry/exit points and ancillary services. Temporary land usage of around 17.44 hectares is also planned during the construction phase. Efforts have been made to minimize displacement and land acquisition, with only 2.3 hectares of private land needed. However, the corridor will affect certain residential and commercial structures, including huts, and may result in relocation. Compensation will be provided as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, and in accordance with the MMRC and MUTP resettlement policies the report reads. How and where to give feedback on Metro-11? What happens after that? The report has been uploaded on MMRC's official website, and the corporation has invited objections and suggestions from citizens and stakeholders till August 20. This public consultation process is expected to guide final decisions and any possible changes to the project design or route. Written suggestions or objections can be submitted until 6 PM on August 20, 2025 to the Director (Planning & Real Estate Development), MMRC, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex or via email. A public hearing will be held following the consultation period, with details to be announced through newspapers. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mumbai Metro Line 4: MMRDA installs 48 m steel span above Ghodbunder Road
As part of the ongoing work of Metro Line 4, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday night installed a 48-metre-long steel span at Kapurbawadi Junction on the rail, linking Wadala and Kasarvadavli. According to the officials, the important section was laid over the congested Ghodbunder Road in two nights, without affecting city far, MMRDA has completed 84.5 per cent of the work on the line. The steel structure comprises four huge steel girders that are 14 metres high and weigh 325 tonnes. With this installation, all the special steel spans from Majiwada to Kasarvadavli have been completed. The new span is at the elevated portion of the corridor and was intended to span a complicated junction bordered by existing flyovers. In order to have minimal interference, the contractors deployed heavy machinery in the form of 700-tonne and 550-tonne cranes with backup cranes, trailers and a safety team of over 100 engineers and labourers. Backing them up were more than 50 trained traffic wardens, standby ambulances and equipment such as manlifters and trucks. Metro Line 4, extending more than 32.32 kilometres and having 32 stations, is intended to improve east-west connectivity in Mumbai. It will connect Wadala in the southern-central area of the city with Kasarvadavli in Thane, passing through important points like Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund, and Thane. Upon completion, the Metro Line 4 corridor would be able to bring down travel time between the eastern suburbs and Thane tremendously. The milestone right now maintains the timeline for commissioning of the corridor under Phase 1. The officials attributed the smooth completion of the high precision job to the coordination among different government agencies. 'We thank all the government authorities and agencies involved for their invaluable guidance and support, which played a crucial role in the successful and safe completion of the challenging work,' an MMRDA official said.

Mumbai's Thane Gets Slight Makeover: Flyover Inaugurated While Metro Line 4 On Track
Last Updated: Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has inaugurated the much-awaited 800-meter-long flyover, In a move to offer seamless transportation and push down the growing traffic in the city, the Mumbai government has finally inaugurated two major infrastructure projects, Metro Line 4 and the Kasarvadavli Flyover Phase 1. The latter has been open for public use, making it easy for everyone to save time while travelling on the Thane–Gaimukh route. Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has inaugurated the much-awaited project. It is an 800-meter-long flyover, which is already easing traffic chaos that once choked the Ghodbunder junction. It is built alongside the upcoming Metro Line 4 corridor, the flyover allows seamless movement from Thane to Gaimukh, bypassing a junction notorious for long snarls. Phase 2, which will connect Gaimukh back to Thane, is all set to benefit the public after the monsoon. Metro Line 4 Update Running parallel to the flyover is the under-construction Metro Line 4, a 32.3 km elevated metro line stretching from Wadala to Gaimukh, with 30 planned stations., The project has not been inaugurated yet. However, major civil works are in advanced stages. Recently, engineers achieved a significant milestone at Kapurbawdi station, installing a set of giant U-girders—each weighing nearly 98 tonnes—in a single night. This fast-tracked feat sets the stage for trial runs, which are expected to begin on a 10 km stretch between Cadbury Junction and Gaimukh later this year.
