Meet Dubai TikTok star Rechel Hoco competing for Miss Universe Philippines 2025 crown

Gulf News30-04-2025
Dubai: From the glittering skyline of Dubai to the crown-studded stage of Miss Universe Philippines 2025, Rechel Hoco is proving that dreams don't have a zip code.
The 23-year-old content creator and self-made social media star — with over 1.2 million TikTok followers and counting — will compete at the Miss Universe Philippines 2025 pageant by representing Oriental Mindoro, a province 140 kilometres southwest of Manila. At the time of writing this article, she was in the midst of preparing for the National Costume Show round in Philippines.
And no, she didn't get here through industry connections or pageant camps. If her posts on social media are anything go by, she proudly hustled her way from Overseas Filipino Worker's life to online royalty, one reel at a time.
A former Miss Oriental Mindoro 2019, Rechel packed her bags in 2022 and moved to Dubai to support her family. By day, she worked as a travel sales agent. By night? She became a full-blown digital diva — vlogging, modeling, and serving looks that turned her into a household name among the Filipino diaspora.
'I wasn't born into privilege. I built this,' she shared on social media, oozing the kind of confidence that pageant fans eat up.
Now, she's returning to the spotlight — but on her terms. Representing her roots with grit and glamour, Rechel is ready to take on the Miss Universe Philippines 2025 stage on May 2. And trust us, she's not just there to pose — she's coming for that crown.

Manny Jacinto opens up about struggles before Hollywood success

Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto, known for his role in Freaky Friday, shared that his journey in Hollywood involved many rejections before capturing audiences' hearts. Jacinto appeared on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where he candidly discussed the challenges he faced as a person of color in the entertainment industry. 'It's a pretty tough industry, especially as a person of color, whether you're Asian or Filipino in general. There's a lot of rejection in auditions, casting choices, and projects. You just have to keep going,' he said. He credited his parents' strong work ethic for inspiring him to persevere. Jacinto plays Eric Davies, a charming chef and single dad, in Freaky Friday, starring alongside Lindsay Lohan. His previous credits include Star Wars: The Acolyte, Top Gun: Maverick, Nine Perfect Strangers, and The Good Place. Despite his success, Jacinto revealed that acting wasn't his original plan. Coming from a family rooted in education, he was the first to pursue the arts, often receiving puzzled looks from relatives but gaining their support. He earned an engineering degree before fully committing to acting, taking classes and auditioning for various roles. On where he draws his determination, Jacinto said, 'Well, my mom would always say, 'Ang tigas ng ulo naman ng batang 'to' and I think it's just the stubbornness. I think it's a part of that, but it's also, again, work ethic and also the support from my parents.' He also expressed interest in working with Lea Salonga and plans to create and act in films in the Philippines. Jacinto is currently in the Philippines for the local premiere of Freaky Friday.
