US Agency To Lead Team To India To Assist Plane Crash Probe

A US government agency that investigates civil aviation accidents on Thursday said it would be leading a team of American investigators to India to assist in the investigation of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a post on X that it will be "leading a team of US investigators travelling to India to assist the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau with its investigation into the crash of an Air India Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad, India, Thursday." It added that as per international protocols under the International Civil Aviation Organisation, all information on the investigation will be provided by the Government of India.

The Air India flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew members onboard the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. There were 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals onboard the ill-fated Air India flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, which crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it is in contact with the NTSB regarding Air India flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, "that was involved in an accident in India on Thursday, June 12.
"When an international incident occurs, that government leads the investigation. In the event assistance is requested, the NTSB is the official US representative and the FAA provides technical support. We stand ready to launch a team immediately in coordination with the NTSB," the FAA, the US federal government agency that regulates civil aviation in the country, said.

Boeing said in a brief statement that it is in contact with Air India regarding Flight 171 and "stand ready to support them. Our thoughts are with the passengers, crew, first responders and all affected." US lawmakers are extending condolence messages to the victims and their families.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said he was "heartbroken" by the Air India crash in Ahmedabad and expressed his deepest condolences to all those around the world touched by this tragedy. "There must be a full investigation to provide answers and prevent such tragedies from happening again."

"Just last year, I lost my father, Arun Patel, to a heart attack. Now I've lost my mother, uncle and aunt. In one year, I've been left almost alone," he said. Now, only he, his wife, his daughter and cousin sister remain from what was once a vibrant family unit. The pain has been compounded by the wait to identify the deceased. "We're waiting for my 'foi' (paternal aunt) to arrive from the US — only her DNA sample can confirm my uncle's identity. She's on her way," said Parth. The loss is not limited to the family. Effluent leak fear as tank tilts at Shristhal
Canacona: A 32-year-old tank storing molasses effluent of a company has become a health hazard to the residents of Shristhal. The company stopped production more than a decade ago. Filth has started oozing out of the tank now, making the locals fear that the tank is on the verge of breaking up and spreading the effluent all over the village. On Thursday, the tank was inspected by the deputy collector of Canacona, and pollution control board and PWD officials. Local MLA Ramesh Tawadkar was at hand as well. The conclusion after the inspection was that the tank, which is tilting slightly to one side, should be dismantled. The PWD was asked to give a stability report of the tank. The Canacona fire and emergency services were included in a discussion on whether the effluent could be some explosive. However, that possibility was ruled out by the new lease owners of the IDC plot, NTS Pvt Ltd. Tawadkar has asked the PWD to ascertain the stability of the tank and remove its contents in a safe manner. SSLC-2 records 27.8% pass rate in Karnataka
Bengaluru: The pass percentage in SSLC-2 exam, the results of which were announced Friday, is 27.8%. While 3.1 lakh students appeared for the exam, 87,330 have passed. Among freshers, the pass percentage is 30%. As many as 11,818 students appeared to improve their results, and 56% of them managed to secure better scores. With this, the total pass percentage of SSLC has reached 71.4%. Of 8,61,800 students who appeared, 5,28,263 passed in exam 1 and 87,330 in exam 2. The 2025 SSLC exam-2 was conducted from May 26 to June 2 in 967 exam centres. The evaluation was done from June 6 to 10. The pass percentage among girls is 35%, and among boys 27%. Rural students performed marginally better (31%) compared to urban students (30%). Govt school students did better than their counterparts in other schools. While 37% of govt schools passed, 20% of aided schools and 32% of unaided school children passed. Additionally, 28% of Kannada-medium and 38% of English-medium students passed. Four more students secured 625 out of 625, of which one student is from a govt school, said a press release from the department. Exam-3 will be conducted from July 5 to 12 for students who obtained a 'Not completed' result in SSLC 2025 exam-1 and exam-2 and for those seeking result improvement. Fee exemption is given for regular fresh students who received a 'Not completed' result in exam-2. However, candidates who take up exam for result improvement, private candidates, and repeaters have to pay the prescribed exam fee. Remedial classes will be held for exam-3 too, informed the school education department. In SSLC-1 exam, the pass percentage of students in the state was 62%.
