Mainz's Hong Hyun-seok set for Ligue 1 loan

Kicker reports that Mainz midfielder Hong Hyun-seok is set to be loaned out to Nantes. The 14-times-caped Taeguk international only just joined his current Bundesliga outfit from KAA Gent last season. After starting his initial four Bundesliga fixtures under Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen, Hong didn't earn another league start after September of 2024. Hong wrapped up the 2024/25 campaign with 23 league appearances, 19 of them coming in relief. The South Korean's estimated market value plummeted from €9m to €3.5m over the last twelve months. Mainz paid Gent €4m to acquire Hong from the Belgian Pro League side last autumn. He was the German club's most expensive summer signing. Hong never really managed to catch on in the way intended with the Palatinate Club. South Korean teammate Lee Jae-sung continued to thrive while Hong simply couldn't gain traction. Paul Nebel's rise, along with the summer additions of Benedict Hollerbach and Sota Kawasaki, further diminished Hong's prospects of gaining playing time. Kicker reports that Mainz are set to net a €400,000 loan fee as part of the transaction. Hong remains under contract with the Rheinhessen until 2028. Mainz sporting CEO Christian Heidel has directly confirmed Hong's impending loan out to the German magazine. GGFN |

Galatasaray Eye Donnarumma After Ederson Talks Stall

Turkish giants exploring options amid Ter Stegen injury setback and transfer complications Galatasaray Eye Donnarumma After Ederson Talks Stall Galatasaray've turned their sights to Italy's Gianluigi Donnarumma with negotiations for Man City's Ederson proving difficult according to Spanish outlet AS. Ter Stegen Blow Ends Initial Plan The Turkish champions initially targeted Marc Andre ter Stegen hoping to lure him after he reportedly fell out of favor under new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. However a back injury has ruled out the German goalkeeper forcing Galatasaray to halt discussions. Ederson Deal Hits Financial Roadblock Galatasaray reached personal agreement with Ederson offering the Brazilian shot stopper net salary of 6 million euro per year plus bonuses. But Man City are demanding 10 million euro for the transfer, a fee the Turkish side's hesitant to match. Donnarumma Now on the Radar With Ederson's move stalling Gianluigi Donnarumma's emerged as viable Plan B. The PSG goalkeeper's future remains uncertain as his contract expires next summer and no renewal has been agreed. Galatasaray's head of transfers Abdullah Kavukcu confirmed to AS: "We have list of targets. Donnarumma's among them but we must evaluate the financial conditions carefully" Meanwhile head coach Okan Buruk added: "Donnarumma's exceptional keepe of course I'd want him. Ederson's also great option but nothing is finalized"

William Saliba hopeful over new Arsenal contract: ‘Let's see'

William Saliba says he will 'hopefully' follow his centre-back partner Gabriel in signing a new long-term contract at Arsenal. The 24-year-old, who has two years remaining on his existing terms, is currently in talks with Arsenal over a renegotiation. Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the defender. Advertisement Speaking to reporters after Arsenal's 3-2 win over Newcastle United in Singapore, Saliba said: 'Yeah, hopefully. Of course, there is nothing now but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let's see.' Arsenal have already agreed new contracts this summer with Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly, with an announcement pending on a new long-term deal for Ethan Nwaneri. Saliba and Bukayo Saka, whose deals both expire in 2027, will be next on the list. If Arsenal could secure new contracts for Saka and Saliba, it would round out a strong summer transfer window. New sporting director Andrea Berta has already overseen six first-team signings, including centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres. Saliba believes those additions could help transform Arsenal from contenders into champions. 'Every year is different,' he suggested. 'We have to learn from the last three seasons. Of course, we are lucky to have a chance to compete in the Premier League again and try to win. Our mindset is to win the Premier League and we will give everything from the first game. We have a lot of new players and they will hopefully help us to win this league.' Gyokeres was presented to the Arsenal fans before the Newcastle friendly. For Saliba, who played against Sporting CP in last season's Champions League, Gyokeres is already a familiar face. 'We know how good he is, how it's scary to play against him,' said Saliba. 'When you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused, but now he's in our team and he will score for us, so that's good. 'Of course, I'm so happy to have him in my club, and I'm sure that he will help us to win games and win trophies.' Two 15-year-olds, Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, both featured in the victory against Newcastle. It was a driving run from Dowman that won the decisive penalty and Saliba took the chance to praise Arsenal's teenagers. Advertisement 'They are unbelievable,' Saliba said. 'They are young, we mustn't put pressure on them, but to play the way they play at 15 … I remember when I was 15, I was not playing with the first team — I was with the U-17s, so it's good! 'We have to protect them and give them support, but of course they are really really good players, and I hope they will help us as soon as possible.' Arsenal travel to Hong Kong on Tuesday to face Tottenham Hotspur at the Kai Takeover Stadium on Thursday July 31.
