The Lone Star and the cross: One man's sacred march across Texas & beyond
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Walter Masters, a resident of San Angelo, Texas, has been carrying a cross across the United States for the past 25 years. Thursday morning, a reporter from Concho Valley Homepage saw Masters walking the streets on the south side of San Angelo. Recent rainfall in San Angelo exceeds normal June levels According to Masters, he's walked across the country in 46 states while counting some serious mileage along the way. 'I've walked about 25,000 miles sharing the love of Christ everywhere we go,' said Masters. Masters said he's walked into the San Angelo Rodeo Parade and that God had called him to stay and focus on San Angelo and the surrounding cities. TGSO hosts run for Special Olympics Texas Masters makes the crosses he carries. When it comes to the cross he carries, he said it weighs about 35 pounds, but it is nowhere near the level Jesus had to carry; however, his cross serves as a reminder. 'I pray if they don't stop, that they are reminded of Christ because that's all that matters, not me,' said Masters. Masters noted that his journey with the cross was taking him through San Angelo as he made his way to Bronte, Texas, nearly 34 miles from San Angelo. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. MLSD celebrates inaugural graduation of Digital Learning Center
Jun. 12—MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake School District marked a historic milestone May 4, as the Digital Learning Center proudly held its inaugural graduation ceremony at Lions Field. The school has had two other graduating classes, but they have been previously combined with Moses Lake High School. The event celebrated the academic achievements of the first graduating class, comprising a diverse group of students who had successfully completed their high school education through innovative digital learning methods. Attended by family, friends, educators and community members, the ceremony featured heartfelt speeches, reflections on personal growth, and acknowledgments of the challenges faced throughout the academic year. "Your accomplishment marks not only a personal achievement but also the promise of a new beginning," said Superintendent Carol Lewis during her opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of community support and perseverance throughout the students' educational journeys. The evening was a tribute to the faculty and staff who guided the graduates over the years, particularly during a challenging final year. Lewis acknowledged the steadfast dedication of counselors and faculty members. "Without their belief in your potential and their unwavering support, this graduation would not have been possible," she said. Keynote speaker Veronica "Ronnie" Roylance, a staff member known for her caring approach to students, shared insights about personal growth and resilience. In a candid address, she addressed the common uncertainties faced by graduates regarding their future paths. "It's perfectly normal to feel unsure about your next steps. Remember that life is not a race; it's a journey filled with valuable lessons," she said, encouraging students to embrace their unique paths with confidence. The ceremony also highlighted the achievements of students who participated in various programs, including the Seal of Biliteracy, Running Start and vocational training initiatives. As graduates were called to the stage to receive their diplomas, applause erupted from the audience, reflecting pride and encouragement. In closing, Lewis commended the graduates for their resilience and echoed the sentiments of unity within the community. "Together, we celebrate not just your graduation, but the bonds formed and memories created here at the Digital Learning Center," she said. After the ceremony, graduates exited the field in celebration, ready to embark on their next adventures as proud representatives of their school and community.

Evergy falcon eggs laid in Topeka may never hatch
TOPEKA (KSNT) – Bird watchers in Topeka may be disappointed this year to find a famous family of peregrine falcons are unlikely to raise any new chicks this year. 27 News reached out to Evergy this week regarding its resident family of peregrine falcons which nest on top of the energy company's offices in downtown Topeka. Courtney Lewis, a spokesperson for Evergy, said the eggs laid this year are not likely to hatch given how long it has been since they were first laid. The peregrine falcon couple currently nesting atop the Evergy offices have regularly returned to this site to raise their young since 2011. The first egg of the season arrived in April this year and was followed by two others. 'There are still two eggs currently in the nest,' Lewis said. 'One egg was either removed or consumed by the adults.' Topeka strip club owner indicted for machine gun possession Lewis said the falcon couple consists of the 16-year-old female, Nemaha, and her mate Boreas, which is 18-years-old. The age of the birds is one of the bigger factors that may explain why no eggs have hatched yet this year. 'We suspect that it is due to the age of the adults,' Lewis said. 'We are not aware of any environmental or weather-related factors that would have caused the eggs not to hatch this year.' Peregrine falcons usually lay their eggs in mid-March or early April each year with a new egg appearing every other day until the clutch is complete. The eggs take around 33-35 days to hatch with chicks eventually leaving the nest after about five weeks. Lewis said the other peregrine falcon families Evergy monitors in Missouri are faring better. Three chicks were banded at the Hawthorn Generating Station in Kansas City and a new breeding pair has taken up residence at Evergy's Iatan Generating Station.
