Anthony Elanga labels Newcastle team-mate Alexander Isak as one of world's best

The 23-year-old winger completed his move to Tyneside last Friday and is united with fellow Sweden international Isak, who has been at the heart of transfer speculation this summer.
Liverpool were one of those said to be interested in securing the striker's services, but it is understood Newcastle value him at around £150million in a bid to fend off potential suitors.
Although Isak has been surrounded by intense speculation, newcomer Elanga has so far enjoyed working with his international colleague.

'A player of Alex's stature there's always going to be noise around him,' Elanga said.
'For me, he's one of the best players in the world, one of the best attackers in the world. I've played with him at international level so I can say so.
'There's always going to be noise, but at the end of the day he's a Newcastle player right now. I'm just trying to focus on what he's doing in training, showing his qualities and speaking to him every day.
'Whenever I speak to Alex it's always about good things – how my family is, how his family is and that's the first thing he asked me – how my family is – because he sees them all the time when he comes with the national team.
'I always try and focus on the present and the now. Alex being the player he is, one of the best attackers in the world, I think there's always going to be noise around him, but he's the type of player who is always staying focused.

'What he's shown in training is second to none. I'm looking forward to continuing training with him.
'Not just him, but Anthony Gordon who I'm also close with. He's helped me a lot settling in – he came from a different city as well. It's been amazing so far.'
Elanga arrives for a reported fee that could eventually amount to £55million and has been thrown straight into action, joining this week's training camp in Austria ahead of pre-season starting on Saturday with a clash against Celtic.
Newcastle are aiming to build on last year's stellar campaign which saw them secure their first major domestic silverware in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup in March, as well as securing a Champions League spot.
Elanga is ready to make his impact, suggesting 'anything is possible' this season.

Asked how far Newcastle are from challenging for a Premier League title, he replied: 'We just take it game by game, focusing on each day that comes to you, wanting to improve, wanting to learn, wanting to take in information that the gaffer says. Anything is possible.
'The players we have, the coaching staff and adding Martin (Mark) from Midtjylland as set-piece coach. Those little one per cents are only going to make us improve even more.
'We're really on the right track. Having been involved in the sessions this week, I can really sense that feeling of we really want to grab something and win something this year.
'We take it game by game, focus on every session. Anything is possible really.'

Football supporters now have a bigger say in how their clubs are run

The Football Governance Act has officially become UK law after receiving royal assent, establishing an independent regulator for English football. This landmark legislation introduces a watchdog for the top five tiers of the men's game, aiming to ensure clubs are run sustainably and are accountable to their supporters. The new regulator will possess 'backstop' powers to impose financial settlements between the English Football League (EFL) and the Premier League if they fail to reach an agreement. The Act's journey to law was prompted by the attempted European Super League breakaway and numerous instances of clubs facing financial distress and mismanagement. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy highlighted that the Act delivers on promises to fans, protecting cherished clubs and their vital role in communities.

Russell Martin tells Rangers stars how five legends who visited club can inspire them to greatness ahead of Euro clash

RANGERS' royalty spent last week touring the club's training ground. Sir Alex Ferguson, John Greig and Richard Gough all graced Russell Martin's squad with their presence in the build up to the crunch Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 3 Rangers manager Russell Martin is preparing his squad for Panathinaikos Credit: PA Their collective desire to see Gers back on top has made Martin more determined than ever before to build an empire of his own - fuelled, of course, by the prestige of the past. Sir Alex played for his boyhood heroes in the 1960s, while Greig and Gough delivered countless titles and trophies as captains. And Martin believes their iconic status within Ibrox can help propel his players to greatness. The Light Blues boss said: 'We had two Rangers legends and a legend of the game this week who supports this club and they all had the same conversation with every single one about what this club means to them and we have to represent that as much as we can. 'That's to try and be, like I said, as dominant as we possibly can in every aspect of the game we can be. 'We had John Brown, Lee McCulloch, Ian Durrant at a game and it was great to see them. 'The door is open to people who have had success here, they know what it takes, they know what the club is about, they support the club, they feel what it means to be here and be part of it. 'Anyone that can impart some wisdom on that and some experience, and people who have had big success here as well, is hugely helpful to me, to the staff, to the players. 'It's been great, it's been really nice, the energy around the training ground, seeing some of the players are in awe of these people is brilliant. 'It just reminds you that the players are just human as well, the same as us, they have people they look up to and they aspire to be like and this group will have a chance to create their own history, their own legacy and that has to be the message all the time, we have a chance to come here and do something really special and bring things together and do that and that has to be the aim for us this year.' 'Absolutely brilliant or RUBBISH' - Gassama Rangers transfer verdict and Souttar to leave While past legends can inspire, Martin knows his players must find their own way to follow in their footsteps. With so much riding on the outcome of the Panathinaikos clash, it's a baptism of fire for his new look squad. Martin stressed: 'They have to trust the work they've done. 'They have to trust each other, they have to trust the work that we've given them. 'And to do that, whatever the situation is, even if we're having a tough moment in the game, even if we're well on top and we're having a good time, they have to trust the work and stick to the work. 'Otherwise, it's pointless. 'I think we have a really clear framework to work in. 'There are certain non-negotiables and principles of our play that will remain the same, whatever the situation. 'And then they have to feel things and tomorrow night they'll feel it for the first time properly. 'So they will hopefully, as much as they possibly can, help each other on the pitch. 'We'll help as much as we can from the side. It's not always easy, but we will. 'Then they just have to trust that we will support them for it, as long as the intention of the team is good. 'We can always accept when mistakes are made or whatever, but the reaction has to be good and the intention has to be good. So they'll never get criticised if the intention is good and to be us.' Like Gers, Panathinaikos finished distant runners-up last season - trailing Olympiacos by 16 points. It's 15 years since the Greeks last reached the Group stages of the Champions League. 3 The last time the teams met, Rangers progressed on the old away goals rules to reach the last 16 of the Uefa Cup - Walter Smith's side would go on to reach the final. Martin said: 'I'm excited about it. 'I said that to the players, they should, with the work they've put in over the last four weeks, they should be really excited about this game too, because it's all been geared towards this. 'It could be hugely important for us. It will be. 'Whatever happens, the plan is to win it, to progress and to build from there. 'But whatever happens, we'll have something to gauge where this group is at, for them to feel it, the players and what we're asking them to do, to learn a lot about themselves, for us to learn a lot about them. 'It will not define us, but it is important. 'It needs to be patient, it needs to be quick and there will be times where it won't require much patience and there will be times where it will. 'It's not all going to be plain sailing, there will be some bumpy moments but we have to make sure that everyone can understand and see what we are trying to achieve and that the team has enough moments that people can feel excited about. 'That will be the message, we're going to need the supporters, they were amazing in the pre-season friendly second half, they've been brilliant whenever we've bumped into anyone around the city, they've been amazing. 'And they are the most important people and I hope they can feel the freshness and the energy in their team tomorrow night.' 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Rangers boss Russell Martin insists Panathinaikos game won't define season ahead of huge Champions League qualifier

Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 4 Rangers boss Russell Martin Credit: PA 4 Nedim Bajrami, Hamza Igamane and Connor Barron during training Credit: PA 4 Rangers full-back James Tavernier in training Credit: PA But with Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and new signing Djiedi Gassama not fit for 90 minutes, Kieran Dowell, Finlay Curtis and Danilo all look likely to start. Martin admits the stakes are high, but stressed: 'It's not going to be a season-defining game, it's not. 'It's a really, really big game, but a season is a long season. 'It will be defined by what we do between now and May. It's a big game. Every game for Rangers is a big game. 'Every game is a must-win at Rangers. But it's not season-defining. 'The squad will look very different in four or five weeks, I'm convinced of that. 'But the team we have now, the squad we have now, we have to put in a performance that looks like us, feels like us and one that we can build off and ultimately win the game. Both Dessers and Igamane have been linked with moves this summer. The pair will be involved at some stage, with Martin full of praise for the man ready to step up. After last season's injury hell, Danilo is fully fit and firing again and last night the Gers gaffer insisted: 'They're not ready to start a game yet, they're not ready to play 90 minutes, but they're definitely ready to contribute. Rangers boss Russell Martin opens up on transfer plans as he delivers updates on Dessers and Igamane 'As is Gassama. Gass is not ready to play 90 minutes. 'But they all played 45 minutes on Saturday, which put them in a really good place and I like a lot what I've seen from all three of them. 'All very different but they're three players that excite us to chance to work with them and hopefully keep them here and excite them about being here. 'We will work with them and they can definitely help us, all three of them can add. 'We'll see them at some point over the two ties, how many minutes will be defined by how the game is going. 'But they're physically ready to help us, just not over 90 minutes yet. 'Danilo has been great, I really enjoy working with him. 'He doubles up as a translator, he speaks about five different languages. 'He's technically really good, he has scored a lot of nice goals in pre-season and links the game well. 'And what I love about him, he gives everything in every session, absolutely everything he has got. 'He wants to learn. 4 'He helps a lot with the other players as well, so he's been great and I hope he can take that forward from pre-season into the season.' There are concerns among the Rangers fans that a match of this magnitude is coming too soon. Should they progress, Gers would face either Viktoria Plzen or Servette in the third qualifying round. Should they exit, Martin's men would have to overcome either Besiktas or Shakhtar Donetsk to reach the Europa League play-offs. The Gers boss said: 'We'll find out tomorrow if we're ready. 'In terms of preparation, work, physically, tactically, the connection between the way we work, the players, us, I've been so pleased over the four weeks, but it's not a long time. 'Tomorrow's going to be a really big test for us to see how far along we are and see how much work we have to do. 'I think that's the most interesting thing for us as a coaching staff, is that tomorrow we will learn a lot about the group, we will learn a lot about how we need to prioritise moving forward over the next few weeks."
