The Springboks won't be in action for another couple of weeks, but if anyone needs any reminding of how much talent and passion run through all levels of the game, they would do well to observe how Paarl will become the centre of attention for the iconic Paarl Gimnasium vs Paarl Boys' High schoolboy derby on Saturday.
This remains a major attraction on the rugby calendar every year, and kick off has been confirmed for 16:00.
For those who can't be there in person, the match will be screened live on SuperSport channel 216.
This year's match will be played in front of a packed stadium, with about 20,000 fans expected, and Paarl Gimnasium director of rugby Pieter Rossouw has likened preparations for Saturday's interschools clash against Paarl Boys' to that of a World Cup.
'For many of the boys, this is the biggest game of their rugby career. It's something they've been dreaming about for a long time,' Rossouw said at a pre-match press conference.
'I think you can compare it to the journey of a World Cup tournament, where guys prepare for four years to play in that final. Similarly, boys come into school in Grade 8 and dream of playing for the 1st XV in that particular [interschools] game.'
Meanwhile, Paarl Boys' coach Sean Erasmus believes Saturday's showdown will shine a light on the incredible pool of talent at schoolboy level.
'Among the 30 boys who will play, I believe there could very well be three or four future Springboks,' he said.
Erasmus added that Boishaai had learned from last year's disappointing 30-8 defeat to Gimmies.
'We conceded 30 points in the interschools last year and afterwards we talked to each other about how it was an important lesson and what we could take from it.
'It's nice to see how the boys who are now in matric have grown as people.'

This could really be a good move for Chiefs (if they attempt to sign him),' the former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach stated. Wallabies improvement ‘through the roof' … and the Boks are up next
The Wallabies are much improved since they finished last in the previous two editions of the Rugby Championship. British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has praised the improvement in the Wallabies ahead of their Rugby Championship campaign, starting with matches against the Springboks. The Wallabies narrowly lost their Lions tour 2–1, though their second defeat came after a controversial refereeing decision in the dying minutes gave the Lions the win (score 29–26). They recovered from that and won the last match comfortably, 22–12, in Sydney last weekend. In the build-up to the final match, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said his money had been on Australia to win the second game. He said he knew they would up the ante in the third Test, and bring the same fire when they take on the Springboks in their opening Rugby Championship matches in Johannesburg and Cape Town on 16 and 23 August, respectively. Wallabies much improved over last 18 months After the tour, coach Farrell said it was frustrating not to be the first unbeaten Lions side to tour since 1974. Still, he lauded the tenacity of the current Australian set-up, who, though ranked eighth in the world now, are much-improved from the 2023 side that was the first Wallabies outfit to fail to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. They have also finished last in the previous two Rugby Championships. 'The best team won the night,' Farrell said. 'I've just said to the lads, on reflection, it may take one or two beers to be unbelievably proud of what they have achieved throughout this tour. 'We all know how difficult it is to be successful on a Lions tour against a good side like Australia, and they are a good side, and they proved that over the series.' He said the Wallabies had progressed 'through the roof' over the past 18 months. He also backed them to continue bettering themselves and be a major threat come the 2027 World Cup in Australia. 'I said to Joe [Schmidt] out there on the pitch, I think that special things are going to happen for this team over the next 18 months, and when the World Cup comes around, they will be a force to be reckoned with. 'They have got some special athletes and some special players, and it's not a surprise to us how they have performed over the last couple of weeks.'

'Let's get behind our ladies': Siya Kolisi urges SA to back Bok women at world cup Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and assistant coach Mzwandile Stick have called on South Africa to show support to the women's national team as they gear up for the Women's Rugby World Cup in England starting in two weeks' time. The Bok women rallied from a 34–26 defeat to a New Zealand Black Ferns XV side last month to secure an important 41–24 win in Cape Town at the weekend. Coach Swys de Bruin called the result one of the best performances he had seen since he joined the squad more than a year ago, adding it showed they were close to where they wanted to be in their last fixture before the Rugby World Cup. The Bok women will not have it easy in Pool D. Currently ranked 12th, the South Africans take on 25th-ranked Brazil on August 24 before tough fixtures against Italy (seventh) and France (fourth) in the following weeks. Kolisi backs Bok women to reach play-offs The Bok women didn't win a single game in the 2021 tournament. Still, Kolisi backed them to reach the quarter-finals this year. 'We need to get behind them,' Kolisi said. 'Not just us as a team, but the whole of South Africa. It's a big year for them.' Having come from humble beginnings in Zwide township in Gqeberha, he said he could relate to the challenges women's rugby players face in pursuing their dreams amid limited funding and opportunities.
