Kaizer Chiefs legend wants Sundowns right-back at Naturena

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Patrick Mabedi has urged Amakhosi to sign Khuliso Mudau from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The lanky defender has not penned a new deal with Masandawana, which could open a door for other PSL clubs. Mudau is highly regarded as one of the best right-backs in Africa, having played in the CAF Champions League final and Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.
Mabedi feels Kaizer Chiefs would benefit if they could sign the Bafana Bafana star. The former Malawi international coached Mudau when he coached at Black Leopards seven years ago.
'He is a very good player. If Chiefs sign him they could have found a missing link in not only their defence but the whole team. You know when I coached him at Black Leopards we used to use him either as a right back, right winger or even a central midfielder. That's how good he is. So, this could be the biggest move for Chiefs in recent times. Personally, I would encourage them to go for him,' Mabedi told Soccer Laduma .
The Amakhosi legend says Mudau is a player who could help Chiefs build from the back as he is good playing with the ball at his feet.
'You know he comes from Sundowns who like playing the ball around. He is good in that and Chiefs need such a player who can help them build from the back and link up with their attackers. This could really be a good move for Chiefs (if they attempt to sign him),' the former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach stated.
Mudau has attracted offers from North Africa so a move to Chiefs is very unlikely at this stage, given the player is in his prime.

Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Ighodaro, Phiri, Zajmovic, new striker

Kaizer Chiefs have signed six players so far this transfer window but the club have indicated that more signings would be made before the window closes. The team will play their first official match of the season against Stellenbosch on Sunday at the Cape Town Stadium. Nasreddine Nabi will hope to get his side to a winning start after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Amakhosi are linked with 24-year-old striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who is under contract with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. 'That player [Ighodaro] belongs to another team with administrative issues, but he or another striker that we listed on our transfer list will be welcomed,' Nabi said when questioned by FARPost . 'For now, we will wait to hear from our administration if he or another striker will join. I saw the player you are asking about last season was playing for AmaZulu, and I believe he's a good player, but he's a player that doesn't belong to our club, and we can't say much about it.' Another player Kaizer Chiefs can sign is former Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri. He recently confirmed to Sunday World that he and his camp held talks with Amakhosi. 'Yes, Kaizer Chiefs did contact me and my representatives. We had small talks with Amakhosi, but I think since they were going to prepare for their pre-season in the Netherlands, the talks stalled a bit,' Phiri told Sunday World. 'But hopefully in the upcoming days or weeks, our talks will resume, and we will come up with something. 'Should something work out, I will be here, but if not, I will go elsewhere and keep pushing.' Ex-TS Galaxy star Dzenan Zajmovic set to record straight on rumours linking him to Chiefs. 'Two clubs made contact, but I was not happy with the proposals about a month ago,' Zajmovic told 'It was not even one of the big three clubs in South Africa. Okay with regards to Kaizer Chiefs, they never contacted me. I have seen people writing a lot of nonsense that I'm negotiating with them but nothing like that has happened. 'All the things on the internet about me and Chiefs are not true because they have never contacted me. What I know is that I have shown myself in a good way but maybe it is not good enough for some clubs,' he said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Stellenbosch's young guns hungry to turn the tables on Kaizer Chiefs, says Barker

Langelihle Phili of Stellenbosch FC | BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix Stellenbosch FC's MTN8 quarter-final hero Langelihle Phili may have to wait a little longer before he cracks a place in the starting line-up, according to coach Steve Barker. Phili is one of the most promising young attackers in the country, having played a considerable role in helping the SA U20 team to the Afcon title earlier this year. The 20-year-old showed his prowess in front of goal again last Sunday by coming off the bench to net the match-winning goal in extra-time to see off AmaZulu at the DHL Stadium. The youngster would no doubt have wanted to continue the momentum in the much-anticipated Betway Premiership opener against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday (kick-off 5.30pm). 'Everybody is knocking on the door,' Barker said, at the Premiership launch in Sandton on Tuesday. 'That's the nice part, especially young players. They are hungry to play, hungry to start. But he plays in the same position as Sanele Barns, who scored two goals on Sunday, so it doesn't make it easy.' Barker was, though, looking forward to Phili building on his positive start to the new season. 'It's nice when a player comes on and wins the game for you. Langelihle is a very exciting player. I am looking forward to him having a breakthrough season. 'I think scoring in the first game of the season will give him the real confidence and belief that he can reach the potential that he has.' Barker's attention is fully focused on turning the tables on Chiefs in the season opener after the Amakhosi held the upper hand over their Western Cape rivals last season. Nasreddine Nabi's Phefeni Glamour Boys achieved a hat-trick of victories over Stellies in all competitions and it still rankles with the veteran coach. 📸 𝐈𝐧 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: The 2025/2026 #BetwayPrem launch event at The Galleria — Official PSL (@OfficialPSL) August 5, 2025
