Michigan State Legacy Prospect Adam Shaw Decommits From Rival Rutgers and Is Set To Visit the Spartans
Michigan State Legacy Prospect Adam Shaw Decommits From Rival Rutgers and Is Set To Visit the Spartans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Good news hit the Michigan State coaching staff on Thursday, June 12. A Spartan legacy prospect announced his decommitment from conference rival Rutgers ahead of his official visit in East Lansing. Advertisement After being unable to land 4-star legacy prospects, running back Kory Amachree and offensive tackle Gregory Patrick, things seem to be turning around in Michigan State's favor. Head coach Jonathan Smith mid-practice.© Nick King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Adam Shaw, son of Spartan offensive tackle Scott Shaw, originally committed to Rutgers on June 1 following his visit. With his decommitment, the 3-star, two-way player is in reach for Michigan State to land. His official visit is scheduled for June 13. As a Spartan, Scott Shaw played under then-head coach Nick Saban and was a first-team All-American in 1997. Following his time with Michigan State, he was drafted in the fifth round by the Miami Dolphins and played two games with the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie. Advertisement According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Adam Shaw is a No. 21 class of 2026 recruit in his state and a No. 87 linebacker. The legacy prospect is also a quarterback at Pascack Valley High School. Last season, he threw for 1,341 yards and 13 touchdowns alongside his 1,021 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Now with his decision across 16 schools narrowing down, Michigan State is in great position to land the legacy prospect even after extending a late offer. While the Spartans have rallied together a decent recruitment class of 2026, landing a legacy target will only boost head coach Jonathan Smith's resume considering his recent struggles before official visit season. Center Point High School to host Alabama State Games track and field events
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — We're just hours away from the opening ceremony for the 42nd Alabama State Games at Legacy Arena. Softball is back for the first time since 2015. More than 90 teams are registered to play softball at Bill Noble Park and the Trussville Sports Complex. We spoke with executive director Laura Creel Burt at Legacy Arena about what makes this event so special. 'There's lots of tournaments around, but the participants are not going to have this experience,' she explained. 'There's not a parade of athletes at every tournament. They're not going for gold, silver and bronze medals at every tournament, and they don't always get to have a podium moment at other tournaments. So we just feel like this is a very unique experience for athletes.' The Cauldron is now in place ahead of Friday's opening ceremony and parade of athletes at Legacy Arena. This year, more than 4,300 athletes are registered to compete in sports including softball, pickleball, tennis and track, which is being hosted by Center Point High School for the first time. Those numbers are up from 2024 by more than a thousand athletes, according to organizers. Twenty One Pilots announces 2 Alabama tour dates in 2025 Preston Wilson, track and field coach at Center Point High School says there are two types of competitors among the more than 700 athletes who will take part in events on Saturday: 'We've have people competing for PRs, which is their personal records, and you have teams competing for points and most medals,' Wilson noted. 17-year-old Ke'Asia Washington is one of the best high school girl shot putters in the state. The Center Point High School student won the silver medal at the 5A state championship. She said her strategy for Saturday is all about focus: 'I don't really look at the competition because if I look at it, then I'll be nervous,' she explained. 'I've got to go knowing I'm the top one.' If you want to come out and cheer on Washington and the other athletes. The track and field events are expected to kick off on Saturday at 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. respectively. Coach Wilson added that they do have an inclement weather plan to keep everyone safe. For more information on the Alabama State Games, click here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
