Ex-Premier League striker Lys Mousset departs Bohemians

Irish Examiner3 days ago
Bohemians have confirmed that striker Lys Mousset has departed the club "by mutual consent".
The former Bournemouth and Sheffield United striker joined the club earlier this year following a successful trial, but with only one goal to his name, the 28-year-old has headed for the exit door.
Mousset starred for both the Cherries and the Blades in the Premier League and made 90 English top-tier appearances after initially making his breakthrough in France with Le Havre.
The former France under-21 international has flattered to deceive since leaving the Premier League in 2022 and spent a year out of football prior to his stint at Bohs, where he struggled for form in front of goal.
A Bohs statement read: "Bohemian FC can today confirm the departure of Lys Mousset by mutual consent.
"We thank Lys for his efforts at the club over the past six months and wish him all the very best for the future."
Alan Reynold's second-placed Bohs have brought in former Drogheda United loanee, Douglas James-Taylor, from Walsall, while they are also pondering a bid for the services of Galway United midfielder Patrick Hickey.

Heartbreaking scenes as tragic Diogo Jota and brother Andre Silva laid to rest

Liverpool winger Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva have been laid to rest at a joint funeral in Portugal. The Portuguese star, who just won the Premier League with Liverpool and Nations League with Portugal, was tragically killed in a car crash with his brother André Silva, a fellow footballer, in Spain. Diogo's wife and family have been joined by Liverpool players for the funeral of the brothers in Portugal. A church bell tolled and crowds applauded as the brothers' coffins were carried into the church, followed by mourners, some with their arms around each other. Others seen arriving at the church included Liverpool manager Arne Slot, captain Virgil Van Dijk and team-mates including Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez. Some of the players carried wreaths shaped like football shirts as they arrived at the church. Family and friends gathered for the brothers' wake on Friday, with a queue forming outside the Portuguese chapel. People held service sheets featuring pictures of both brothers, the largest one showing Jota smiling in his Liverpool FC shirt and making a heart sign with his hands. Liverpool FC postponed the return of their players for pre-season following Jota's death and players past and present paid tribute to him and his brother on social media. Liverpool and Portugal teammates including Darwin Nunez and Bernardo Silva attended the funeral of the brothers. Pic:A sea of floral tributes had been left outside Anfield, with many Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs looking to pay their respects. Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the stadium and all club stores, museums and tours have been closed until Monday, with staff offered wellbeing support. Jota and Silva were found dead after the car crashed on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday. Police said they were investigating the possibility that the Lamborghini left the road because of a tyre blowout while overtaking, and a source from the government sub-delegation in Zamora confirmed 'a possible speeding incident' was being looked at. Mourners lined the streets during the pair's funeral. Pic: PA/PA Wire Pictures of the aftermath of the crash showed debris scattered along the side of the road including what appeared to be charred parts of the vehicle. No other vehicles are said to have been involved in the incident.
