Centre, state committed to make Uttarakhand national horticulture hub: Chouhan
Dehradun, The Centre and the Uttarakhand government are committed to making the state a national hub of horticulture, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Friday.
Interacting with farmers at a Kisan Chaupal in Pavwala Sauda village under Doiwala block of Dehradun, the agriculture minister said, "The quality of fruits, grains and vegetables grown in Uttarakhand is unique and they have full potential to make a mark at the global level."
"The Centre and the state government together will make Uttarakhand a national hub of horticulture," he said.
During his visit, the minister also planted a sapling as part of the ongoing Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam campaign.
Chouhan interacted with litchi, basmati rice, jackfruit and vegetable producers, and talked about issues relating to seeds, irrigation, marketing, and the crop insurance scheme.
"I am from a farmer family, I know the pain of farmers. That is why today I have come directly to the farm and sat on the cot, so that I can know whether the benefits of the government schemes are reaching the ground or not. Direct communication with the farmers ensures their strong participation," he said at the Chaupal.
Talking to the media, he said the state government is doing excellent work in the field of agriculture under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The Centre, along with the Uttarakhand government, will ensure that the farmers here not only get the benefit of modern agricultural techniques, but also get markets for their products at the national and international level, he said.
Further, Chouhan said farming will be made more profitable in future by giving special emphasis on natural farming, technological innovation and water conservation.

A more than three-decade-old judicial order has rendered the government of the day 'handicapped' and 'provides a virtually impregnable cover' to HC judges against whom an FIR cannot be lodged, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Friday said. Dhankhar's remarks came on the Justice Yashwant Varma episode during an interaction with a delegation of the Punjab and Haryana HC Bar Association. 'The government of the day is handicapped. It can't register an FIR because there is a judicial order, which is more than three decades old. It provides a virtually impregnable cover. Unless permission is accorded by a functionary at the highest level in the judiciary, an FIR can't be registered… why was that permission not given? That was the minimum that could have been done at the earliest occasion,' Dhankhar said, as per an official statement issued after the interaction. The Centre has reached out to all political parties to build a consensus before bringing a motion of impeachment against Justice Varma during the monsoon session of the Parliament. Dhankhar, however, asked if bringing a motion to remove a judge, is the answer. 'If a crime was committed, a culpable act shaking the foundations of democracy, why wasn't it punished? We have lost more than three months, and the investigation has not even been initiated. Whenever you go to court, they ask why the FIR was delayed,' he said. In an apparent reference to the SC-appointed committee in the mater, he asked, 'Does the committee of judges have a constitutional sanction? Does it have statutory sanction? Can its report result in any outcome? Can the report, by itself, be actionable? The Constitution says mechanism to remove a judge can be initiated either in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha… this committee cannot substitute for an FIR investigation'. Without naming Justice Varma, he said a 'very painful' incident happened mid-March in Delhi when 'there was a cash haul, obviously tainted, unaccounted, illegal and unexplained' at the residence of a sitting judge. The incident appeared in the public domain after 6-7 days, he said. '… We don't know if it was an isolated incident. Whenever such a cash haul is made, the system has to find out whose money was it. What was the money trail? Are big sharks (involved)? Did the money influence judicial work?'

Muradpur's Solar-Powered Lift Irrigation Scheme Promises Lifeline to Farmers
Nagpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday inaugurated the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme powered by floating solar panels, calling it a 'boon for farmers' that will not only improve agriculture but also uplift rural livelihoods in the region. The scheme, implemented at the Vadgaon reservoir on the Vena River in Umred taluka, aims to provide year-round water supply to over 465 acres of farmland using solar energy. Floating solar panels installed in the Rama Dam reservoir will generate enough electricity to power the entire irrigation system, drastically cutting energy costs and enhancing sustainability. Speaking at the inauguration, Gadkari said, "Water is the most critical need for our farmers. Regular supply will not only help in agriculture but also resolve many village-level problems. This solar-powered lift irrigation scheme will enable farmers to take up two to three crops annually and increase their income." The project is particularly significant for the local population, 53% of whom belong to tribal communities. Highlighting the scheme's technical details, officials explained that water from the Vadgaon dam is lifted using pumps and transported through MS pipelines to two delivery chambers. From there, 20 HP pumps distribute water to farmlands through drip irrigation. Floating solar panels with a 270 KVA capacity are expected to generate 1,080 units of electricity daily, sufficient to operate all project-related electrical systems without cost. Gadkari urged farmers to form Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to maximise the benefits of the scheme. "With modern practices like drone-based spraying and shared machinery, farmers can save Rs 5,000–Rs 6,000 per acre. Technology will boost both yield and profitability," he said. He also announced plans to build a 'Smart Village' nearby, spread over 10 acres with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The project will include 1,000 homes (450 sqft each), concrete roads, and assured lifelong water and electricity, along with a playground and garden. "Around 400 people have already registered for homes," he informed. With sustainable energy, efficient water management, and community-focused development, the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme is expected to set a benchmark in rural transformation through green technology. Amit Shah launches language hub to 'decolonise' admin
NEW DELHI: Continuing with his govt's 'decolonisation' project, Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday launched an Indian languages section within the department of official language as a step towards dispensing with the role of English in official communication. "It would prove to be a milestone in the path to freeing administration from the influence of foreign languages," Shah said as he announced the formation of Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag. So far, English had been relied upon for easy and faster official communication and filework between the Centre and non-Hindi speaking states and also among the latter. "We will definitely win the battle against imposition of English upon us," Shah, who over his six-year tenure in MHA has ensured that all filework and official communication in MHA is carried out in Hindi, declared at the launch of the Indian languages section on Friday.
