Centre, state committed to make Uttarakhand national horticulture hub: Chouhan
Dehradun, The Centre and the Uttarakhand government are committed to making the state a national hub of horticulture, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Friday. Interacting with farmers at a Kisan Chaupal in Pavwala Sauda village under Doiwala block of Dehradun, the agriculture minister said, "The quality of fruits, grains and vegetables grown in Uttarakhand is unique and they have full potential to make a mark at the global level." "The Centre and the state government together will make Uttarakhand a national hub of horticulture," he said. During his visit, the minister also planted a sapling as part of the ongoing Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam campaign. Chouhan interacted with litchi, basmati rice, jackfruit and vegetable producers, and talked about issues relating to seeds, irrigation, marketing, and the crop insurance scheme. "I am from a farmer family, I know the pain of farmers. That is why today I have come directly to the farm and sat on the cot, so that I can know whether the benefits of the government schemes are reaching the ground or not. Direct communication with the farmers ensures their strong participation," he said at the Chaupal. Talking to the media, he said the state government is doing excellent work in the field of agriculture under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Centre, along with the Uttarakhand government, will ensure that the farmers here not only get the benefit of modern agricultural techniques, but also get markets for their products at the national and international level, he said. Further, Chouhan said farming will be made more profitable in future by giving special emphasis on natural farming, technological innovation and water conservation.

CM to unveil several projects
Gandhinagar: As the nationwide 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' campaign completed a year on June 5, the state govt said it planted 17.48 crore saplings and secured the second position in the country. Kutch district led by planting 2.95 lakh saplings over the past year, the govt said. Chief minister Bhupendra Patel will preside over the state-level environment day function at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre on Thursday to mark World Environment Day . He will unveil several projects of the environment and forests department at the event, a govt statement said on Wednesday. An official statement mentioned that 1.76 crore saplings were planted in rural areas of the state, while 15.72 crore saplings were planted in urban areas over the past year. The statement also noted that in Gujarat, 5,500 villages established 'Matruvan' as part of the 75th Van Mahotsav in 2024. Additionally, under the 'Van Kavach' scheme, 10,000 saplings were planted using the Miyawaki method, preparing 122 Van Kavach over 200 hectares in 2024-25. On Thursday, the chief minister will launch a dashboard for plastic waste management, update the GCZMA website, virtually inaugurate the new building of GPCB's Bharuch regional office, the air laboratory of GPCB's Morbi regional office, and the newly constructed CETP in Halol.

The govt announced on Tuesday that Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will commence work on 'Sindoor Van' on June 5 under Mission 4 Million Trees. An oxygen park with 12,000 trees, including 551 sindoor trees in 'Sindoor Van', will be established in a 5,000 sq m area near the Jagatpur Bridge in the Chandlodia area of the city. Chief minister Bhupendra Patel and ministers will plant saplings at the secretariat premises in Gandhinagar on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, the govt statement added.
