Jonita Gandhi says industry people thought ‘firang hai toh easy hai', recalls a composer messaged her to meet alone

Canadian singer Jonita Gandhi, best known for hits like The Breakup Song (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil) and Lagdi Hai Thaai (Simran), recently opened up about facing harassment and stereotyping after moving to India. In a candid chat with Hauterrfly, she revealed how her foreign background led some people to assume she was 'easy.' (Also Read: Jonita Gandhi says playback singers don't 'always' get paid in Bollywood: 'I wish this wasn't the case') Speaking about the early days of her career in India, Jonita shared, 'I think in the first couple of weeks when I came to India, I got a message. I'm not going to name the composer. I just wanted to meet for networking, and at that time, one or two of my YouTube covers had already gone viral—that's why he knew who I was and how I looked, and so he was interested. I was chilling with my mum and he said, 'Hey, do you wanna catch up?' I said, 'Yeah, I'm with my mum right now, tell us where to come.' He said, 'Oops.' He wanted me to come alone. People thought because main bahar ki hoon (because I am and foreigner), I'm a little extra down. They thought, 'Oh, she's cute, she's a foreigner. Firang hai toh easy hai (She's a foreigner so, she's easy).' That used to come up a lot—but not for too long.' Jonita also spoke about being harassed on social media. 'Some things are kind of traumatic. On Instagram, you can check your mentions, and I'd see that I'd been added to someone's Close Friends stories. Then I'm seeing it's a d**k pic. It has a watermark with their thing and my photo in the background. It's disgusting. It's harassment. But I keep ignoring such things.' Jonita was born into a Punjabi family from Delhi, but her family emigrated to Brampton, Canada, when she was nine months old, and she was raised there. At the age of 16, Jonita applied for Canadian Idol but was rejected. Following this, she began posting YouTube covers from her bedroom, and several of her renditions of Bollywood songs—like Pani Da Rang, Tujhko Jo Paaya, Tum Hi Ho and others—quickly gained popularity. Jonita then got the opportunity to perform alongside Sonu Nigam on tour and eventually began her playback singing career with Chennai Express. She went on to collaborate with music composers like AR Rahman, Pritam, and Vishal-Shekhar, delivering multiple chartbusters and firmly establishing herself in the Indian music industry.

Vlogger travels the world with golden retrievers, takes ‘top 7 global selfies' with them: ‘Happiest person in the world'

Travelling with friends and family is always a joy, but travelling with pets is an adventure that hits different. If you're someone who loves both travel and furry companions, this video might just be the highlight of your day. Popular travel vlogger Kevin Bubolz and his wife Katie have been winning hearts online for a while now, thanks to their wholesome travel diaries with their two golden retrievers, Ellie and Emma. Their Instagram feed is packed with adorable moments, and their latest upload is no exception. This time, Kevin has shared a fun reel of his 'top 7 global selfies' with his photogenic pups. It kicks off in Paris, and of course, where better than in front of the Eiffel Tower? As Kevin calls Ellie over for a selfie, she happily sprints to him and leaps onto his shoulders. 'And smile,' Kevin prompts, and like a seasoned pro, Ellie flashes her best grin. From there, the video takes us to Poland, then Canada, with Emma making her debut. In every shot, the dogs are full of energy, running towards their human, hopping on his shoulders, and giving the camera their happiest, tail-wagging smiles. Belgium's charming castles, a cheerful moment in Germany, it's basically a world tour of joyful dog selfies. But it's Italy where the clip gets its funniest twist. Filmed in front of scenic gardens and rolling hills, Kevin gives his usual cue. Emma jumps up right away, ready for her close-up. Ellie? She has other plans. Spying a lake nearby, she bolts for it, leaving Kevin laughing: 'She left us.' A post shared by Golden Retriever Life (@elliegoldenlife) In the caption, Kevin also added a sweet little detail: 'Ever since Ellie was a puppy, she's loved the camera. So a few years ago, we started taking selfies and working on smiles.' It's no surprise the video has blown up with over 10 million views and counting, it's proof that globe-trotting with dogs might just be the Internet's new favourite genre. People poured love into the comments. 'I smiled the whole time watching this,' wrote a user. Another user wrote, 'Think I have just found the richest man in the world.' A third person called him, 'Happiest person in the world.'

PETA India's 'dog milk' ad to push veganism leaves Internet queasy, not convinced

An ad meant to promote veganism has ended up making people squirm instead. People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India's latest campaign, launched on World Milk Day, has drawn heavy criticism online for its unsettling imagery and ad features a woman about to drink a dog's milk. It carries the message: 'If you wouldn't drink dogs' milk, why drink the milk of any other species? Please. Try vegan.'advertisementOriginally posted on Instagram, PETA claimed the billboard appeared in several major cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Mumbai, and Noida. In the caption, the organisation wrote, 'Dairy production is rooted in cruelty, from forced impregnation to the heartbreaking separation of calves from their mothers. Cows are not milk machines; their milk is for calves, not humans. Ditch dairy.'Take a look at the post here: The approach, however, didn't sit well with several users online. One person commented, 'Whoever's on PETA's campaign team needs to log off forever,' while another called it 'stupid content' and 'disgusting.'Social media users felt the ad went too far. A user said, 'This message could've been conveyed differently. This just misses the mark entirely.' Another user added, 'How do I unsee this now?'advertisementWhile outrage dominated, not everyone opposed the ad's intent. One user defended the campaign, saying, 'If this disturbs you, it's because the reality is disturbing. We've just normalised it. Drinking milk from any animal—dog, cow, buffalo—is equally odd. PETA is just asking us to pause and think.'See the comments here: Though the campaign aimed to provoke reflection on dairy consumption, it instead triggered a wider debate on how far is 'too' far when it comes to advertisements.
