‘Flip phone summer': Gen Z vows to resurrect low-tech — before their ‘brains turn to mush'
Hanging up on the addictive call of the smartphone, tweens, teens and 20-somethings are, instead, going retro, ditching their digital devices for 2000s-era flip phones.
'Flip phone summer,' declared Makayla Aubrey, posing with her throwback artifact in a trending clip. 'Life will be so simple.'

It's an ease that comes with less time on screens.
The Zs, youngsters under age 27, have recently begun rehabbing their high-tech fixations with the help of low-tech tools.
It's a generational effort towards disconnecting from the World Wide Web, and reconnecting with the real world in oldfangled ways.
4 Young adults online claim their lives are becoming consumed by their smartphones.

Forgoing iPhone photoshoots, Gen Zers are virally all in favor of snapping pics on vintage digital and disposable cameras, insisting that 'a camera from 2007 gives off a certain vibe that something like an iPhone can't produce.'
The whippersnappers are, too, preferring cassette tapes and vinyl records over music streaming platforms, and Walkman headphones over ultramodern Bluetooth earbuds.
4 Dumbphones, such as flip phone and Blackberrys, offer users a break from the incessant buzz of today's buzzy iPhones and Androids.

Their newfound fascination with Y2K-style horns, however, started with the BlackBerry.
Nicknaming the once in-demand devices 'dumbphones,' owing to their unique keyboards and limited capabilities, Zoomers have been zooming to sites like Facebook Marketplace and eBay, purchasing BlackBerrys to supplant their more sophisticated cellulars.
Now, as flip phones rise from the ashes as the hot months' hottest commodity, Gen Zs are crediting the vintage mobiles with restoring their grip on reality.

'It's an unplugged summer,' Meni, who admittedly spent 13 hours staring at screens each day, announced in the caption of a TikTok clip.
'I swear that my brain is just mush,' she said, blaming her smartphone, its alluring apps and constant notifications, for the regression.
'I no longer live my life,' continued the brunette. 'I just watch other people live theirs, and feel s—ty about mine.'
Meni went on to laud her early aughts flip phone, along with an old-timey e-book reader, praising the resurrected gadgets for saving her from sure destruction.
'I love the freedom.'

Golden Retriever Slides Down Stairs Every Day Just to 'Make an Entrance'
Golden Retriever Slides Down Stairs Every Day Just to 'Make an Entrance' originally appeared on Parade Pets. Our fur babies have their own unique ways of doing things. My little senior Dachshund is very dainty in how she eats and carries herself in general. My Pug bounds about like a bull in a china shop, and has perfected a "happy dance" at dinner time. It's his own signature jig. Chester the Golden Retriever added a unique spin on going downstairs. Rather than just walking or running, the creative canine uses a little flair to get from one place to another. In the TikTok from @lucy_morrison18, Chester was at the top of the steps in his home about to head downstairs. One would expect him to take the steps one by one, but he has a different technique. Chester slid down the stairs, using his front paws as a guide and his back legs just went along for the ride. The playful pup made a sort of bark/groan/growl noise as he careened down the steps. "He likes to make an entrance every morning," the onscreen text explained. These don't look like ordinary straight steps — there were a few turns and corners that Chester had to navigate and he handled it like a pro. The gliding Golden slid right past his mom, who was on the steps with some laundry. The expression on her face revealed that this is a daily occurence with her seemed almost disappointed when he got to the bottom of the stairs, like the fun ended too soon. The frisky fur baby definitely makes his mark when he goes from one floor to another. "He's not your average guy," the caption read. The innovative pooch deserves props for his sense of whimsy and originality. I don't know of any dogs that intentionally slide down the stairs, though there are obviously some out there. My Pug was actually afraid of stairs when we adopted him as a rescue from Puerto Rico. He overcame his fear, but he's still a bit hesitant when it comes to taking that first step. Hopefully Chester will stick to the stairs and not attempt to slide down the banister. 🐶🐾🐾 Golden Retriever Slides Down Stairs Every Day Just to 'Make an Entrance' first appeared on Parade Pets on Jul 28, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Jul 28, 2025, where it first appeared. Additionally, critics argue that there's occasional over-commercialization, where authenticity is compromised for sponsorships. However, many creators are striving to address these concerns transparently. The cultural significance and influence of internet chicks will likely only continue to grow in parallel with the increasing digitalization of our world. These dynamic figures remind us that beyond the hashtags and pixels are people whose presence makes the internet a more colorful, engaging, and meaningful space. TIME BUSINESS NEWS

Budget-friendly spin on classic summer treat goes viral: ‘Road trip luxury'
A budget-friendly recipe is going viral for channeling an Italian delicacy with just two ingredients that can be found at most roadside rest stops: coffee and an ice-cream sandwich. 'It's July and you know what that means: It's gas station affogato season,' New York-based travel expert and television host Samantha Brown recently posted on social media. Advertisement An affogato, which means 'drowned' in English, is typically served with fresh espresso poured over vanilla ice cream. But Brown, host of the PBS show 'Places to Love,' was forced to improvise while on a recent road trip stateside. 'You're seeing everyone in Italy, Positano, the Amalfi Coast, but you're at a Gulf station off the [Massachusetts Turnpike],' she said. To make the experience 'fancy,' she grabbed a cup of black coffee and an ice-cream sandwich from the gas station. With her ingredients resting on top of an air pump, Brown dunks the frozen treat into the cup and takes a big bite. Advertisement 'Delicious,' the mom of two exclaims. 'Back in the car,' she adds. 3 To make the experience 'fancy,' she grabbed a cup of black coffee and an ice-cream sandwich from the gas station.
