Record footfall at Waverley as Oasis fans flock to the city

The beginning of last week saw notable travel disruption as a result of Storm Floris, which resulted in high numbers of cancelled and delayed services on the network.
However, what was the first full week of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival saw passenger numbers climb to just shy of 800,000.
In order to handle the surging passenger numbers the station made use of extra staff to allow services to run as planned.
Station manager at Edinburgh Waverley, Chris King, said: 'It's brilliant to see so many people enjoying what Edinburgh has to offer. We always expect August to be busy, but this weekend was exceptional.
'The Fringe and Tattoo brings an incredible buzz to the city every year, and adding Oasis into the mix meant we had a real 'Wonderwall' of people coming through the station.
'The weekend shows how important rail is in connecting people to these events and experiences.
'Our team did a fantastic job keeping everything running as smoothly as possible, and we'll continue working hard to ensure our station is ready to meet that continued demand in the weeks ahead.'
Network Rail says that the station expects high levels of footfall to continue throughout the month and encourages passengers to plan ahead as well as allowing extra time to complete their journeys.

Edinburgh Oasis fan put 'in headlock and wrestled to ground' by security as probe launched

Shocking footage has emerged of a security guard allegedly putting an Oasis fan in a headlock before wrestling him to the ground at the band's final performance in Edinburgh. Filmed during the performance of 'Champagne Supernova' on August 12, a man appears to be placed in a headlock by a G4S security member as a colleague helps to him down a set of stairs at Murrayfield Stadium. The music fan is then brought down to the concourse floor with both security personnel appearing to try to restrain him on the ground. Another G4S staffer can be seen following the trio down the steps and watching over the scene. It is not yet known the reason behind the man being restrained. The company confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the incident is being probed. Police Scotland have also confirmed a number of arrests were made on Tuesday night. Three men in their 30s and 40s, were held over several offences. A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with assault. Another 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with assault. A 39-year-old man was arrested for threatening and abusive behaviour. The final night of the Oasis reunion gig at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium also saw three people arrested for assault and abusive behaviour. Police in the capital confirmed a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with assault and will appear in court at a later date. As the brothers closed off their three nights in the Scottish city, Liam made sure to mention Susan Boyle before the crowd erupted into an applause. He made the shout out before the group hit 'Stand By Me'. He said: "This one is for Susan Boyle". One clip shared online got over 100,000 views with fans all having the same reaction. One person commented: "Wee SuBo getting a mention." A second fan added: "Hahaha Mon the Susan". A third wrote: "He makes me laugh!!" However, not all moments at the gigs have been as sweet.
