USA, Nepal and Bhutan were among eight countries honoured at the 2024 ICC Development Awards, announced during the annual board meeting of the International Cricket Council on Sunday.
USA Cricket received the ICC Associate Member Men's Team Performance of the Year award for their strong showings last year, which included qualifying for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup. Co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies, the US side defeated Canada and pulled off a stunning win over Pakistan — knocking Babar Azam's team out of the competition and drawing huge attention.
Bhutan and Nepal also made the winners' list, along with Indonesia, Namibia, Scotland, Tanzania and Vanuatu.
In total, 15 Associate Member countries had been shortlisted for the awards.

Commenting on the awards, ICC chairman Jay Shah said, 'It is a pleasure to announce the global winners of the ICC Development Awards. This is a celebration of global exceptionalism, with all winners worthy of the accolades they have received in their mission to grow the game in emerging nations,' as quoted by PTI.
Namibia won the ICC Development Initiative of the Year award for its Ashburton Kwata Mini-Cricket Programme, a grassroots cricket project that has become a key part of the country's development strategy.

Divya Deshmukh devastated in FIDE Women's World Cup final draw against Koneru Humpy

Divya Deshmukh devastated (Screengrabs) The first game of the FIDE Women's World Cup final between 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh and 38-year-old Grandmaster (GM) Koneru Humpy ended in a tense draw on Saturday in Batumi, Georgia. But it was the emotion on Divya's face at the end, hands covering her disappointment, that told the real story of a missed opportunity. Watch: Making her debut in a major final, Divya came in with bold intent. Playing with the white pieces, she surprised many by opening with 1.d4, a move she hadn't played all tournament. It was a clear sign of targeted preparation. For the first hour, the young International Master (IM) held a clear edge, pushing Humpy onto the back foot with sharp, aggressive moves. But as the clock ticked and pressure mounted, Divya began using significant time for key decisions. The advantage slowly began to slip away. Humpy, ever composed, showed why she's long been India's top female player. She neutralised the pressure with precise calculation and calm defence, turning the tables slowly without ever forcing the issue. Her ambition was evident, but so was her fatigue. Eventually, neither player found a breakthrough. After 41 intense moves, the game concluded in a draw through repetition, a fitting result for a match that swung both ways but never fully tipped. Game 2 will see Humpy take the white pieces. With one more classical game left, and possible tiebreaks after that, this final between experience and youth is just getting started. IND vs ENG 4th Test: Sunil Gavaskar lambasts Team India's leadership - 'Difficult for me to get my head around'

India coach Gautam Gambhir talks with captain Shubman Gill of India (Photo by) Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar didn't mince his words as he reacted to India's dismal performance in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Speaking on Sony Sports, the former India captain questioned the decision-making setup within the team, firmly placing responsibility on skipper Shubman Gill. 'Look, I mean we didn't have coaches, we just had, you know, former players as managers or assistant managers of the team… they were not coaches but the kind of people you actually went up to and talked… they would give you some advice at lunchtime or at the end of the day's play or on the eve of the game. So it's difficult, you know, for me to get my head around the captains and the coaches combination,' Gavaskar said. The former captain noted that in his playing days, decisions rested with the skipper, not a team of analysts or coaches. 'When I was captain we had nobody who was a former player to be honest. I had Commander Durrani once and I had Raj Singh Dungarpur. The only time was Irapalli Prasanna and he was brilliant.' His remarks come at a time when Team India is struggling to contain England's dominance in the Test series. England, led by Ben Stokes' stellar century and five-wicket haul, posted a mammoth 669 in their first innings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Walmart Cameras Captured These Hilarious 20 Photos Undo India, in reply, collapsed early in the second innings, losing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks, both dismissed by Chris Woakes within the first over. Drawing attention to team selections, Gavaskar made a pointed remark: 'You can't say that he didn't want somebody like, you know, maybe in Shardul Thakur's case or Kuldeep Yadav's case... maybe Shubman didn't want Shardul in the team and wanted Kuldeep in the team. He should have had them in the team. He is the captain.' Gavaskar didn't stop there. 'He's going to be... I mean people are going to talk about him and his captaincy out there so it's got to be his call really. And I know for the sake of showing everything is hunky dory that these things might not come out. Fact is that the captain is the one who is responsible for the team. He's the one who's going to be leading those 11 players. Simple as that.' For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here.
