USA, Nepal and Bhutan were among eight countries honoured at the 2024 ICC Development Awards, announced during the annual board meeting of the International Cricket Council on Sunday.
USA Cricket received the ICC Associate Member Men's Team Performance of the Year award for their strong showings last year, which included qualifying for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup. Co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies, the US side defeated Canada and pulled off a stunning win over Pakistan — knocking Babar Azam's team out of the competition and drawing huge attention.
Bhutan and Nepal also made the winners' list, along with Indonesia, Namibia, Scotland, Tanzania and Vanuatu.
In total, 15 Associate Member countries had been shortlisted for the awards.

Commenting on the awards, ICC chairman Jay Shah said, 'It is a pleasure to announce the global winners of the ICC Development Awards. This is a celebration of global exceptionalism, with all winners worthy of the accolades they have received in their mission to grow the game in emerging nations,' as quoted by PTI.
Namibia won the ICC Development Initiative of the Year award for its Ashburton Kwata Mini-Cricket Programme, a grassroots cricket project that has become a key part of the country's development strategy.

IND vs ENG Test: 'It was two against eleven – I loved it' - Zak Crawley opens up on Lord's firefight with Team India

England's Zak Crawley (L) and India's Shubman Gill (R) were involved in a heated exchange at Lord's. (AFP Photo) England opener Zak Crawley has shed light on the fiery confrontation with India captain Shubman Gill during the tense third day of the Lord's Test, calling it one of the most exhilarating moments of the series so far. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The drama unfolded late on Day 3, when Crawley and fellow opener Ben Duckett took 90 seconds longer than usual to walk out to bat. The delay drew immediate protest from Gill, who accused the duo of deliberately wasting time to face fewer deliveries before stumps. What followed was a heated exchange, with nearly the entire Indian team surrounding the batters in an intense verbal standoff. How and why Rishabh Pant's England tour could come to an abrupt end due to toe fracture Recalling the moment, Crawley said at the post-day press conference of the Manchester Test on Thursday: "I've always enjoyed that part of cricket, to be honest, especially when you're batting. There's two of you against eleven, and they're desperate to get you out, and they're chirping you... I loved that little eight-minute passage." Ben Stokes delivered a relentless 10-over spell, and Jofra Archer unleashed raw pace to help bowl India out for 170, sealing a dramatic 22-run win. Why Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah lost their cool in last five minutes of Day 3 vs England Addressing the delay, Crawley clarified: "No, no. Not at all. I sit in my spot until the umpires go out. On This Day In 2011: Pietersen's Double Century Leads England In 100th Test Vs India

Last Updated: India's 2011 England tour began with the 100th Test at Lord's — a match that saw Zaheer Khan's injury, KP's double ton, Dravid's hundred, and the start of a painful 4-0 whitewash. On This Day In 2011: Historic and traumatic, the Lord's Test of India's 2011 tour of England started on this day. Ranked No.1 in the world then, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian side embarked upon their toughest challenge to date, taking on Andrew Strauss' rising English brigade at the Home of Cricket for what was a special encounter. It wasn't just the start of the Pataudi Trophy but also the 100th Test between the two great rivals and overall, the 200th Test played in the game's history. The momentous occasion was backed by a huge turnout at Lord's, while TV and streaming viewership soared to incredible heights. With the world anticipating a gripping contest to start a long summer of exciting tussle between India and England, the visitors were left deeply embarrassed by an opposition that prepared for the marquee series twice as well. Reeling from fatigue and injuries amidst a quick turnaround from the IPL, India were already missing their instrumental opener Virender Sehwag for the series opener. In Sehwag's absence, Dhoni stood a little extra wary of a surface that carried a tinge of grass on it and decided to bowl first upon winning the toss. What followed would be recalled as the start of that Indian team's downward spiral, as Dhoni lost the leader of his attack, Zaheer Khan, to the most untimely hamstring injury in the second session of play only. Zaheer walked off clutching his hamstring and so did India's hopes of taking 20 wickets. England compiled a massive 474/8 declared, led by the amazing Kevin Pietersen's unbeaten double century (202). Swing bowler Praveen Kumar's 5 for 106 was India's only positive. #OnThisDay in 2011, the 2000th Test in cricket history came to a conclusion in England's Pietersen smashed a spectacular 202* in the first innings at Lord's to give the hosts a thumping 196-run win over India 🔥 — ICC (@ICC) July 25, 2020 While India's bowling was always their weaker suit, the batting line-up of ageing greats also faltered miserably. Even as the great Rahul Dravid produced an emotional Lord's hundred (103) to tick off the box he missed on his debut in 1996, India were dismissed for 286, with no other batter, not even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (34), providing Dravid support for significant length of time. With their backs against the wall, India needed an inspiring turnaround to come out unscathed and save a draw. Ishant Sharma's 4 for 59 in the third-innings raised the tourists' hopes, but wicketkeeper-batter Matt Prior's magnificent 103 not out once again shut the door on Dhoni's team. England declared again on 269/6, setting India a target of 458 and the best part of five sessions to play through to safety. Then, in a snapshot of what was to follow for the rest of the summer, infamous for India's abject surrender and the ignominious 4-0 drubbing, England ace James Anderson came up with a masterclass of late swing and ran through that great Indian batting line-up along with his longstanding ally, Stuart Broad. Anderson took 5 for 65 and Broad 3 for 57, as the two exceptional seam bowlers accelerated the Indian downfall for just 261. VVS Laxman got a fighting 56 before young Suresh Raina waged the battle with his courageous 78. But it was never going to be enough. India eventually suffered a painstaking loss of 196 to kickstart a procession of defeats that spanned across Trent Bridge, Edgbaston and The Oval in perhaps their worst ever series loss on foreign soil. view comments First Published: July 25, 2025, 07:25 IST News cricket On This Day In 2011: Pietersen's Double Century Leads England In 100th Test Vs India Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Canadian hockey players found not guilty in controversial sexual assault case after years amid witness inconsistencies

Ontario Court acquits five Canadian hockey players in high-profile sexual assault case (Getty Images) Five former Canadian junior hockey players were acquitted of sexual assault charges tied to a 2018 incident in London, Ontario. The judgment, delivered by Justice Maria Carroccia, concluded a lengthy and high-profile trial that had become a national conversation on consent, memory, and the legal threshold for criminal responsibility. Judge cites insufficient evidence and inconsistencies in the complainant's testimony After an eight-week trial that captured the attention of the nation, Justice Carroccia found Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, and Carter Hart not guilty. The former Canadian World Junior team members had been accused of sexually assaulting a woman, referred to as EM, in a hotel room following a Hockey Canada gala. Carroccia spent hours detailing her reasoning, underscoring contradictions in EM's testimony, including discrepancies about who bought drinks and conflicting accounts provided to police and Hockey Canada investigators. 'She went to great lengths to emphasize how intoxicated she was,' said Justice Carroccia. However, the judge added that surveillance footage and witness testimony did not corroborate the level of impairment EM described. Two videos shown during the trial, one taken without her knowledge, showed EM appearing composed, smiling, and providing verbal consent — though the judge clarified that the videos alone did not legally establish consent under Canadian law. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo The ruling emphasized the importance of establishing credibility and reliability in a complainant's account, something the Crown, in the judge's view, failed to do. 'The Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts,' she concluded. Emotional fallout, public protests, and future implications The courtroom was packed, with additional rooms opened for the overflow crowd. As the not-guilty verdicts were read, visible signs of relief were seen among the players and their families. Yet, outside the courthouse and on social media, a different emotion pulsed — frustration, sorrow, and disbelief. EM did not appear in person but watched the hearing virtually. Her lawyer, Karen Bellehumeur, expressed disappointment: 'She's really never experienced not being believed like this before… She agreed to do everything asked of her by the criminal justice system… yet it was not enough.' Protesters gathered outside with signs in support of EM, warning the outcome could cast a chilling effect on future survivors of sexual assault. One protester stated, 'This verdict will influence how sexual assault cases are viewed in Canada for the next decade.' The NHL, where four of the players had active contracts at the time of the charges, reiterated that they remain ineligible to play until the league completes its internal review. Meanwhile, the NHLPA called the eligibility ruling 'inconsistent' with standard procedures and advocated for the players' return. Crown prosecutor Meaghan Cunningham acknowledged the verdict but stood by the complainant: 'A successful prosecution is not measured solely by guilty verdicts. Our goal was a fair trial — fair to both EM and the accused.' An appeal is still being considered, with a 30-day window to file. As legal teams retreat and the headlines begin to fade, the emotional and cultural resonance of the case is expected to linger, not just within the hockey community but across the broader conversation on consent and justice. FAQs Q1: Who were the five hockey players acquitted in the sexual assault case? Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, and Carter Hart were acquitted by an Ontario judge. Q2: What was the main reason for the acquittal? The judge ruled the complainant's testimony lacked sufficient credibility and consistency to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Q3: Will the players return to the NHL? They remain ineligible pending the NHL's internal review of the court's findings.
