USA, Nepal and Bhutan were among eight countries honoured at the 2024 ICC Development Awards, announced during the annual board meeting of the International Cricket Council on Sunday.
USA Cricket received the ICC Associate Member Men's Team Performance of the Year award for their strong showings last year, which included qualifying for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup. Co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies, the US side defeated Canada and pulled off a stunning win over Pakistan — knocking Babar Azam's team out of the competition and drawing huge attention.
Bhutan and Nepal also made the winners' list, along with Indonesia, Namibia, Scotland, Tanzania and Vanuatu.
In total, 15 Associate Member countries had been shortlisted for the awards.

Commenting on the awards, ICC chairman Jay Shah said, 'It is a pleasure to announce the global winners of the ICC Development Awards. This is a celebration of global exceptionalism, with all winners worthy of the accolades they have received in their mission to grow the game in emerging nations,' as quoted by PTI.
Namibia won the ICC Development Initiative of the Year award for its Ashburton Kwata Mini-Cricket Programme, a grassroots cricket project that has become a key part of the country's development strategy.

Andre Roberson and Steven Adams' reunion selfie brings back warm memories of Oklahoma City Thunder days (Image Source: Getty Images) A calm wedding scene turned into a warm meet-up between two old basketball teammates. Steven Adams showed up at Andre Roberson's wedding in California over the weekend. They both played for the Oklahoma City Thunder for many years and were known for their strong bond and tough defense. The two smiled for a simple selfie that was later posted online. It reminded many of the time they spent playing side by side for seven seasons. Steven Adams attends Andre Roberson and Rachel DeMita's wedding celebration in California On Saturday, August 3, Steven Adams went to the wedding of his old teammate Andre Roberson. The wedding took place in California. Roberson married Rachel DeMita, a TV host who first became known through NBA 2KTV. The day was special, and Adams and Roberson took a selfie together. The photo made its way to social media not long after. Steven Adams and Andre Roberson looked chilled out, just two old teammates smiling for a quick snap. Nothing posed, just a simple moment that felt real. They were on the Oklahoma City Thunder together from way back in 2013 till about 2020. They weren't the flashy guys, not the ones making all the headlines, but if you watched the games, you knew. They always had each other's back. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Didn't talk big, didn't flash — but they were tough. From teammates to lifelong friends: A journey of hard work and lasting bonds Steven Adams joined the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013 as the 12th overall pick. One year later, in 2014, Andre Roberson was drafted 26th by the same team. The two spent about seven seasons side by side, growing a solid friendship both during games and beyond the court. Although the Thunder didn't win a championship during that time, they were always in the mix. Adams and Roberson earned respect for their hard work and strong defense. Former Olympians hunt for next batch of stars at Agnel Ashram

Former great and Olympian Joaquim Carvalho trains young hockey players at Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna Panaji: Former Olympians Mervyn Fernandis and Joaquim Carvalho were on hand as Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School and Agnel Ashram, Verna, ushered in a new beginning through the launch of the hockey training programme as part of the curriculum for students of Class II and Class III. The hockey programme witnessed nearly 90 students from Class II and III listen eagerly to the advice from the former Arjuna Award winners. Fernandis and Carvalho are among the legends of Indian hockey with the former winning gold at the Moscow Olympics and two silver medals at the Asian Games. Carvalho, part of the Indian team at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, won silver at the Delhi Asiad and later coached the national team. Fernandis was all praise for the priests at Agnel Ashram for this initiative that is expected to act as a blueprint for grassroots development of hockey, particularly in South Goa. He was in awe of the changing landscape of the institute in Verna that has seen the laying of a new hockey turf. 'The priests of this school have proved that it is not just about words, but deeds as well,' said Fernandis. 'Today, we not only have a top-class hockey facility here, but we also have our children training seriously with an eye on a hockey career in the future. Ever too keen on supporting hockey in his native Goa, former Indian captain and coach Carvalho was hopeful of seeing at least a few of the children as future Olympians. 'I am convinced that August 4 will be a red-letter day, not just for Agnel Ashram Verna, but for the entire state of Goa simply because a dedicated group of sportspersons have put their hearts and minds together to lay a future pathway for these young players,' said Carvalho. The initiative is the brainchild of Fr. Agnelo Gomes, director of the Agnel Technical Education Complex. The program has been integrated into the school physical education curriculum, so that the students don't have to stay after school or return in the evening. Coach Anselm Gabriel will be overseeing the entire coaching programme. He will visit the school three times a week, with the sessions being worked out from 8.50am to 10.15am.

Amazing to see how well Washington Sundar played in England: Rhodes

CHENNAI: Following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the Test arena, Indian cricket has entered a new phase. Rohit and Kohli's contributions had long been central to the team's success in the longest format. But, in their absence, a young crop made its mark and showed promise in the India-England series. India's not-so-experienced batting line-up in English conditions rose to the challenge, with Shubman Gill leading from the front in his first series as captain. South African great Jonty Rhodes believes that India's incredible depth has both positive and negative impact. Bowled Over by Miya Magic: Mohammed Siraj shines brightest | IND vs ENG 5th Test 'I think India's biggest disadvantage is the fact that they have got so many players. It is not just the IPL, every state has its own league and it is a great platform for young players to showcase their skill. In India, it is so difficult to know when to retire. When you see young prodigious talent churned out and if you do not give them a chance, you possibly could not lose them but the frustrations will grow. It is kind of a double-edged sword. It is great to see the young players stepping up,' Jonty said, after the opening ceremony of the Asian Surfing Championships in Mamallapuram. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo One such player who made a strong impact was Washington Sundar . The 25-year-old all-rounder played a vital role with both bat and ball. 'Washington has played a lot of limited-overs cricket and it is amazing to see how he played in England. We have seen the importance of all-rounders and there are exciting times ahead,' Jonty, who is the brand ambassador of the Surfing Federation of India, added. There has been quite a bit of talk about the competitiveness in Test cricket, with matches often ending in less than five days. However, the fight in the India-England series came as a pleasant surprise, as the first four Tests went till the fifth day. 'When T20 started, everyone thought that Test cricket would be at risk. But I think we have seen the level of skill now added with this bravery and everyone talks about 'Bazball'. Rishabh Pant is getting himself into all sorts of interesting positions when he is playing and that just makes it exciting. 'If a five-match series comes down to Day 4 in the fifth Test, that is what you want to see. Every single Test in the series had its ups and downs, which kept people engaged throughout.' WTC win an incredible feat for SA After multiple heartbreaks in the knockout stages of ICC events, South Africa finally seized their moment by clinching the World Test Championship title. 'It was interesting because we did not win trophies for a long time. There was criticism from coaches and commentators, mainly the commentators asking who have South Africa played. It is fine because sadly, we do not play a lot of Test cricket. Test cricket is big business and if it is not against Australia or India or England, it is a draining business. 'It has been disappointing how little Test cricket the South Africans get to play. I think it is an incredible feat (WTC win), considering the limited time they spend in the format. Hopefully, now that they have won an ICC trophy, the shackles will be released.' For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here.
