Chase Brown 2025 Fantasy Preview
2024: With the Bengals looking to replace previous mainstay Joe Mixon, Brown started out slow in his battle with Zack Moss but overtook the veteran by early October. The fight ended entirely when Moss suffered a Week 8 neck injury, ending his season. Brown averaged a whopping 24 touches over his final eight games before missing the finale with an ankle injury. All in all, Brown was the RB14 by average PPR points, buoyed by 54 receptions and 11 total touchdowns.
What's changed: Brown is neither an efficiency dynamo nor big-play back — he finished 27th in PFF's 'breakaway' metric last season, which measures the percent of your gains that come on carries of 15-plus yards — but he does everything sufficiently well. The Bengals passed on adding real competition, bringing back Moss and reuniting with Samaje Perine. Sixth-rounder Tahj Brooks has excited some Dynasty league players, but that is more of a 2026 concern.
Outlook: Brown doesn't have the feel of a half-decade starter in the Bengals' backfield, but there is every reason to believe he will remain on the RB1/2 borderline for the 2025 season.

The good, bad, ugly from the Commanders' preseason Week 1 performance
The Washington Commanders began the preseason with a 48-18 loss to the New England Patriots last week. Although the score appears unfavorable, Washington sat over 30 players, including nearly all its starters, after they got work in the joint practice two days before the game. Still, head coach Dan Quinn was extremely unhappy with his team's performance. The Commanders committed 15 penalties, 13 of which were accepted. Washington later brought in several players for workouts, signing a few of them. Most of it was due to injuries, but a former draft pick was also waived. This week, the Commanders held an intrasquad scrimmage ahead of their second preseason game, which isn't until following Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Before we look ahead to the Bengals, let's take one look back at Washington's first preseason game. Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently reviewed the "Good, Bad, Ugly" from every NFL team's preseason opener. Here's what he said about the Commanders: The good: Rookie second-round pick cornerback Trey Amos. He played a total of just 13 snaps, but he had a strong all-around effort as one of the lone bright spots for Washington on Friday. He didn't allow a catch on his lone target while adding a couple of tackles. The bad: Both backups to 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman, threw an interception. The offense struggled to move the ball all night as the Commanders went down 20-0 early in the second quarter, 27-3 at halftime and 41-11 early in the fourth quarter. Washington's offense and defense combined to accomplish almost nothing. The ugly: Surrendering a 100-yard kickoff return to a rookie on the opening kickoff of the preseason. C'mon man! It's the first play of actual football in months. Lock in and don't get embarrassed right from the jump like that. Pitiful effort to begin the preseason, and it's an effort that carried over to all three phases for the Commanders for the rest of the night. Amos was excellent, which lines up with how he's performed during training camp. While Amos forced an incompletion, his run stop inside the 10-yard line for a loss was even more impressive. Amos is trending to start Wek 1 at cornerback, alongside Mike Sainristil and Marshon Lattimore. The offensive performance wasn't entirely on the quarterbacks. The reserve offensive line had some issues, and so did the receivers. There were multiple dropped passes. Hartman's interception didn't help. Johnson and Hartman are competing to be Washington's No. 3 quarterback. Washington's special teams were horrendous. They surrendered another long return, too, and missed a field goal. Amos wasn't the only bright spot. Second-year defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton and rookie running back Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt also flashed. It remains to be seen how much starting quarterback Jayden Daniels will play next week against the Bengals.

Hunter Brown reaches 10 victories, helping the Astros beat the Red Sox 4-1
HOUSTON (AP) — Hunter Brown allowed only a run in 6 2/3 innings for his 10th victory, Jeremy Peña and Yainer Diaz homered and the Houston Astros beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Wednesday night. Brown (10-5) allowed six hits and three walks and held Boston to 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The Astros moved a game ahead of Seattle for the AL West lead. The Mariners fell 4-3 in Baltimore. Peña started a two-run first with his his fifth leadoff homer of the season on Walker Buehler's fifth pitch. Diaz added a two-out RBI single and, with the Astros up 2-1 with two out in the sixth, he sent an 0-1 sweeper from Buehler (7-7) 415 to left-center for his 17th homer. Boston had the tying run at third base with two outs in the sixth. With Romy Gonzalez at the plate, Red Sox manager Alex Cora stood outside the dugout demanding Brown be called for a balk. A meeting between the four umpires ensued, but no balk was called. Cora was ejected for the fifth time in 2025 during a pitching change an inning later. Bennett Sousa took over for Brown in the seventh, pitching 1 1/3 innings. Bryan Abreu worked the ninth for his first save. Diaz's two-out, two-run homer in the sixth gave Houston a three-run lead. Diaz is batting .321 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in his last 13 games. Up next The Red Sox open a three-game home series against Miami on Friday night, with RHP Lucas Giolito (8-2 3.77 ERA) slated to start. The Astros open a three-game home series against Baltimore on Friday night, with LHP Framber Valdez (11-5 2.97) set to start. ___

He will have great options in Hunter and Thomas Jr. that can help vault him into top 12 fantasy consideration, but it will be tough.
