Journalism opens as the 8-5 morning line favorite for the 150th Preakness Stakes
The Kentucky Derby runner up to Sovereignty opened at odds of 8-5 on Monday night when post positions were drawn for the middle leg of horse racing's Triple Crown. Journalism is again set to be ridden by jockey Umberto Rispoli and leave the starting gate from the No. 2 post.
Post time is set for 7:01 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
No. 7 Sandman is the 4-1 second choice in the field of nine, which does not include Sovereignty after his owners and trainer decided not to run the Derby winner two weeks after his triumph at Churchill Downs. The Preakness goes on without a true shot at a Triple Crown winner for a fifth time in seven years since Justify swept all three races in 2018.
Bob Baffert, who trained Justify and 2015 Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, is entering Goal Oriented looking for a record-extending ninth victory in the race. Fellow Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas can tie Baffert if he wins the Preakness back to back, this time with American Promise a year after Seize the Grey ended Mystik Dan's Triple Crown bid.
There are three Derby horses running in the $2 million Preakness at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore: Journalism, American Promise and Sandman, the latter of whom will be ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Mark Casse. American Promise drew the No. 3 post and opened at odds of 15-1.
New to the Triple Crown trail, along with No. 1 Goal Oriented (6-1) are No. 4 Heart of Honor (12-1), No. 5 Pay Billy (20-1), No. 6 River Thames (9-2), No. 8 Clever Again (5-1) and No. 9 Gosger (20-1).

Pochettino says pro-visitor crowd in St. Louis was `like to play in Guatemala'
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Mauricio Pochettino got a feel for what the U.S. men's national team still faces at times during home games: a crowd rooting for the opposition. 'It was like to play in Guatemala,' the coach said after his team got two early goals from Diego Luna and hung on for a 2-1 win Wednesday night that advanced the Americans to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. 'That was good for our players because it was an atmosphere that we didn't expect.' Advertisement The U.S. will play Mexico or Honduras on Sunday in Houston, the Americans' last competitive match before next year's World Cup. A sellout crowd of 22,423 at Energizer Park energized Los Chapines, who outshot the U.S. 20-12 and got an 80th-minute goal from Olger Escobar. 'That is football,' Pochettino said. 'When we say the connection in between the fans and the team, that is the connection that we'd like to see in the World Cup. That connection that makes you fly, because (of) the energy that translates.' U.S. players are used to some home matches where the support is overwhelmingly for the opponent. Advertisement 'We're a country full of immigrants, so it was kind of expected for tonight,' defender Chris Richards said. 'It was good for some of the younger guys to kind of experience that tonight, but for us experienced guys, we went through World Cup qualifiers with the exact same stuff, so I think that was a good lesson that the team needed to learn.' An Argentine who played for his nation 20 times, Pochettino comes from a culture where soccer dominates life. 'I saw player of the Guatemala crying,' he said. 'That is the way that we need to feel, and our fans need to feel the same. It's not to come here and to enjoy f the spectacle and if you lose, nothing happens. Yes, it happens a lot. Things happen because you play for your pride, you play for many, many things that I think I cannot tell you tonight. But I think it's good for our players .... I came from Argentina and in Argentina it's not the same win or lose. The consequences are massive." 'The rest of the opponents and the different countries," he added, "you play for survival, you play for food, you play for pride, you play for many things. It's not to go and enjoy and go home and laugh and that's it." Advertisement Luna has showed the hunger Pochettino wants. The 21-year-old impressed the coach when he continued playing with a broken nose during a January friendly against Costa Rica in which the Americans used a B team after training sessions with mostly Major League Soccer players that some fans nicknamed Camp Cupcake. He's become a regular in the Gold Cup and has three goals in his last two games. 'Diego was the example from January, how he is desperate to play for this shirt, for the national team and that is why now he is in the level that he showed,' Pochettino said. Striker Patrick Agyemang also has emerged from January camp to gain a starting berth at the Gold Cup, where many regulars are absent. 'Sometimes you say it's useless, people say it's useless," Pochettino said of the January camp. 'It's not useless. I think it's important, important for the national team, important for the team and very important for the country.' Advertisement Luna scored in the fourth and 15th minutes, the first with his left foot and the second with his right. 'I loved it. It was awesome, man,' he said of the environment. 'That's what every game should be like and I think that the Guatemalans should be very proud of the fan base that they have and the energy they bring.' Defender Tim Ream, who captained the U.S. in his hometown, said positive results will grow the fanbase. 'None of it's going to happen unless we win, unless we continue to win,' he said. 'For us, what's the hallmark of a U.S. team? It's fighting and togetherness. That's what we're finding and doing in this tournament. And it's not always going to be perfect. It's not going to always be pretty, but doing that fosters that connection with the fans, with the diehards, with the casuals, with everybody. And as long as we continue to do that, then that culture grows, the feelings grow, and the connections grow.' ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press

Damian Lillard's Lakers Comments Resurface After Bucks News
Damian Lillard's Lakers Comments Resurface After Bucks News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Milwaukee Bucks spiced up the 2025 NBA Offseason when they waived and stretched Damian Lillard's contract to make room to sign Myles Turner. Doing so means they'll pay Lillard $22 million annually for the next five years to not play for them. Advertisement Lillard is recovering from an Achilles tear, which casts doubt on his availability for the entire 2025-26 season. However, despite Lillard potentially missing the season, there are already interested suitors in his services. The Athletic's Eric Nehm, Sam Amick, and Joe Vardon reported that three teams have already called about Lillard. "Not surprisingly, league sources say Lillard received calls from several contending teams quickly after the news of his Bucks' ending broke," they wrote. "League sources say the Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are known to be among the many teams that would have interest in doing a deal sooner rather than later." Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard (0).Michael McLoone-Imagn Images In light of the Lakers' interest in Lillard, a 2017 tweet from the nine-time star has resurfaced. In it, he listed the Lakers among the teams he'd join if Portland got rid of him. Advertisement "If blazers said they didn't want me... Utah Jazz or Lakers," he responded to a fan over eight years ago. The X account Lakers All Day Everyday reposted this tweet from Lillard after it was confirmed that the Lakers had interest in bringing him in. Lillard's previous interest in joining Los Angeles may stem from his roots in Oakland, California. When Lillard originally requested a trade from Portland in 2023, his preference was to join the Miami Heat before they sent him to Milwaukee. The only way to know what he wants this time will be to see who he picks when he clears waivers. As for Lakers fans, many hope Lillard's 2017 comments are indicative of how he may feel in 2025. Lakers want to get involved in 7-team Kevin Durant trade to make NBA history
The Los Angeles Lakers are making a late push to get involved in the Kevin Durant trade. No, they wouldn't be getting Durant themselves. But they'd have a chance to make NBA history. The Athletic's Fred Katz reported Wednesday night that the Houston Rockets' Kevin Durant deal with the Phoenix Suns could expand into a seven-team bonanza. The five other teams reported to be involved are the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves Advertisement The KD trade hasn't been made official yet, which allows for the late change potential. It's not expected to include unexpected players, but rather combine some trades that are already agreed upon in an effort to most efficiently align the money movement. "In a would-be seven-team trade, there is an unprecedented amount of detail," Katz writes. "Unfortunately, while a seven-team trade would make for a thrilling topic at a cocktail party, there haven't been many unexpected developments in these negotiations. At least in the iterations of the deal discussed so far, most of the recognizable names are from trades that have already been agreed to and reported but not yet finalized." MORE: Lakers make 'insane' decision that could jeopardize future with LeBron, Luka Based on the additional details provided by Katz below, it seems like the Lakers would play a very tertiary role in these proceedings. Advertisement "The Hawks would be sending Clint Capela to the Rockets in what would become a sign-and-trade, league sources say," Katz writes. "Durant would go to Houston. The previously reported return for him, including Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, would go to Phoenix. Only five players who were in the NBA last season are being discussed in the current iteration of the trade, as of now: Durant, Brooks, Green, Clint Capela and Daeqwon Plowden, league sources say. The rest of the players being discussed are all from already-agreed-upon draft-night trades that are yet to be finalized and can't be until July 6." This would be the largest trade in NBA history. Katz writes that the previous largest was a six-team deal last summer that ended with Klay Thompson in Dallas. There was a five-team trade in 2021 when Russell Westbrook went from the Lakers to the Wizards. Why not add more teams while you're at it? The more the merrier. MORE NBA NEWS:
