Police officers arrested for looting washing powder at crash scene

Limpopo police have arrested three SAPS employees, two police officers and a general cleaner stationed at Modimolle SAPS for theft and defeating the ends of justice.
A joint investigation by the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit and the Modimolle Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) led to the arrests.
According to police reports, the arrests follow a 14 July 2025 incident on the R101 road, about 10 km outside Modimolle towards Polokwane.
A delivery truck carrying pallets of washing powder veered off the road around 04:20, spilling some cargo.
While the driver tried to secure the scene, bystanders began looting.
A marked SAPS vehicle soon arrived, but instead of stopping the looting, the two officers allegedly joined in and loaded washing powder into the SAPS vehicle, leaving the driver behind.
The driver documented the incident and reported it, prompting a swift investigation.
On 18 July 2025, the joint team searched the residence of one officer and recovered some of the stolen goods. Investigators also linked a general cleaner to the crime.
The three suspects, aged between 49 and 55, will appear before the Modimolle Magistrate's Court on 21 July 2025.
Police expect more arrests as investigations continue.
Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the conduct of the SAPS employees.
It is deeply troubling when those trusted to uphold the law betray that trust. We will not tolerate corruption or criminal behaviour within SAPS, and we remain committed to ensuring accountability at every level,' Hadebe said.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to report it to their nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

uMkhonto weSizwe Party praises SAPS for reinstating Political Killings Task Team

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has unleashed a storm in South Africa's world of intelligence. His explosive disclosures have triggered a deluge of questions, literally opening Pandora's Box. Image: Thobile Mathonsi / Independent Newspapers The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has expressed renewed confidence in the South African Police Service (SAPS) following the reinstatement of the Political Killings Task Team, describing the move as a pivotal step towards restoring justice for victims of politically and criminally motivated violence that has engulfed the nation. MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlhela praised the task team for their "perseverance and professionalism," which he said had illuminated numerous crimes that might have otherwise faded into obscurity. Ndlhela articulated a strong stance on the principle that 'justice delayed is justice denied,' underscoring the urgency for swift action in the pursuit of justice for all victims. Ndlhela rejected calls for a judicial commission of inquiry intended to scrutinise allegations made by General Mkhwanazi regarding the now-suspended police minister, Senzo Mchunu's alleged collusion with criminal elements. He argued that such a commission could only serve to delay justice even further. "We urge General Mkhwanazi and the Political Killings Task Team to act swiftly and make additional arrests, including any of those implicated politicians, parliamentarians, and members of the judiciary, specifically naming Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya,' Ndlhela asserted. In a show of support for the task team, Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe echoed sentiments of gratitude towards the team's diligent work, stating that Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola was pleased with the task team's progress. National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola spoke to the media after signing a memorandum following the "Hands Off Mkhwanazi" march in Durban. Highlighting the commitment of law enforcement personnel, she said, "Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022. This is the culmination of hard work and dedication to justice. It is crucial that we take our time to ensure a thorough investigation, so we can present a strong case before the court." The MK Party has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the task team, applauding their unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth, especially in cases fraught with political sensitivities. "We urge the continuation of their mandate, free from political interference, and we remain resolute in our call for full accountability. We reiterate that justice must never be compromised,' Ndlhela urged. DAILY NEWS

Diddy takes strategic steps to obtain a lighter sentence

Is Diddy looking to dupe the system or improve his character? image: Sean 'Diddy' Combs is already looking to rehabilitate his image ahead of his sentencing in October. The rapper and mogul has been embroiled in a heavily publicised federal lawsuit that has left his fans and the public at large questioning his life choices and the strength of his character. HOW DIDDY IS LOOKING TO MEND THE PUBLIC'S PERCEPTIONS OF HIM Diddy, currently being detained at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Centre, has decided to enrol in two programs while incarcerated. ADVERTISEMENT These are, namely, the Dr Harry K. Wexler drug abuse treatment program and the STOP Program, which focuses on domestic and dating violence prevention. These programs are widely used in federal facilities. The STOP program is aimed at educating inmates on the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Wexler drug abuse program is focused on recovery and accountability when it comes to matters of drug abuse. Both programs have a high success rate for those who complete the courses on offer. WHY WOULD DIDDY THINK THIS MOVE WILL HELP HIS PUBLIC IMAGE? Beyond looking to mend public perceptions, sources close to the case suggest that this is a strategic move in the hopes of exhibiting remorse and regret for his actions. Doing this before sentencing is also an attempt to garner some leniency. Legal experts note that volunteering to engage in programs like this could influence any outcomes as it pertains to his sentencing. Rehabilitation of this nature especially in federal cases can be a mitigating factor. WHAT THIS COULD MEAN FROM A LEGAL STANDPOINT The American hip hop icon has endured the most challenging time in his career over the last two years. Things reached a fever pitch in July when Diddy was convicted on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges involving racketeering and sex trafficking. The prosecution is still hoping for a sentence of four years, while his defence team is advocating for a lighter term of around 15 to 21 months. Diddy's lawyers will use his enrollment in rehabilitation programs as evidence of him looking to better himself. ADVERTISEMENT DIDDY'S LEGAL WOES ARE STILL FAR FROM OVER These latest reports around Diddy have raised questions as to his intentions. Are these genuine moves to better himself or simply an exercise in public relations? The Bad Boy Entertainment founder still has over 120 civil lawsuits pending. DO YOU THINK DIDDY IS LOOKING TO GENUINELY ADDRESS HIS SHORTCOMINGS, OR IS THIS JUST A STUNT TO INFLUENCE HIS SENTENCING? Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11. Dead monkeys sold openly on Mpumalanga roadside sparks probe

In a shocking sight, a group of men were spotted openly selling dead monkeys on the KaNyamazane Road outside Mbombela this morning. According to Lowvelder, it is currently unknown where the monkeys were poached, but the men showed no fear in displaying their grim goods to passing motorists. Simphiwe Shungube, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, said the agency was unaware of the incident but is taking the allegations seriously. 'We will need to confirm these allegations by sending our officials, who deal with compliance, to visit the location where the men were spotted selling the monkeys. We will then deal with the matter,' Shungube said. He added that a team would be dispatched to investigate and that the perpetrators would be charged accordingly.
