Lewis Hamilton admits 'refusing' Ferrari situation after crunch talks with bosses in Italy
Lewis Hamilton said he "refuses" to be the latest Formula 1 megastar to flop at Ferrari despite a tough first half-a-season in red. Kimi Raikkonen was the last man to win the drivers' title with the Italian team, 18 years ago.
Since then a swathe of big names have failed to find more glory, including World champions like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton's own Ferrari adventure has got off to a difficult start but the 40-year-old is adamant he can summit the F1 mountain for the eighth time with the famous outfit.
Hamilton said: "If you look at the team over the last 20 years, they've had amazing drivers. You've had Kimi, you've had Fernando, you've had Sebastian – all world champions. However, they didn't win a world championship. I refuse for that to be the case with me."
To make it happen, Hamilton said he is "going the extra mile" – including multiple visits to Maranello ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix and crunch talks with Ferrari bosses. All of it, he said, focused on creating a car better suited to his needs in 2026.
And Hamilton insists he is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers in Italy if it means getting back to winning ways. He said: "I held a lot of meetings. I've called lots of meetings with the heads of the team, so I've sat with [chairman] John [Elkann], [chief executive] Benedetto [Vigna], [team principal] Fred [Vasseur].
And several meetings I've sat with the head of our car development, with Loic [Serra], with also the heads of different departments, talking about the engine for next year, suspension for next year – things that you want, issues that I have with this car.

"I've sent documents through the year. After the first few races, I did a full document for the team. Then, during this break, I had another two documents that I sent in. So, then I come in and want to address those. Some of it is structural adjustments that we need to make as a team in order to get better in all the areas that we want to improve, and then the other one was really about the current issues that I have with this year's car.
"I see a huge amount of potential within this team. The passion, nothing comes close to that. It's a huge organisation with a lot of moving parts, and not all of them are firing on all the cylinders they need to be. That's ultimately why the team's not had the success that I think it deserves.
"I feel that it's my job to challenge absolutely every area, to challenge everybody in the team, particularly the guys that are at the top making the decisions. There's lots of work and improvements to be made, but they've been incredibly responsive.
"I'm just trying to really create allies within the organisation and get them geed up. I'm here to win, and I don't have as much time as this one [Kimi Antonelli, 18, sat next to him]. So, it's crunch time. For me, I truly believe in the potential of this team. I really believe they can win multiple world championships moving forwards. They already have an amazing legacy, but during my time, that's my sole goal."

That new striker is unlikely to be Jackson, with United having prioritised a move for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko or Aston Villa 's Ollie Watkins. Chelsea have registered their interest in signing Garnacho but are not close to agreeing a deal with United, with the new season just three weeks away. Napoli were also linked with Garnacho but their interest appear to have waned over recent weeks. Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca shared his stance on Jackson's future, claiming that a red card at this summer's Club World Cup had not pushed him towards the exit door. The Italian said: "No, the red card has nothing to do with Nico's future. He had the first one against Newcastle when Liam was not even here and another one. 'I'm not sure that it's 100 per cent a red card but the referee decided for that, and Nico knows very well that in both situations (it) was not something good for the team." Meanwhile, Chelsea have bolstered their frontline this summer having signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro from Ipswich and Brighton respectively. Manchester United have also been busy on the goalscoring front, with both Matheus Nunes and Bryan Mbeumo having arrived from Wolves and Brentford. Ruben Amorim's side are not finished there either, with a central striker high on their shortlist. RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a realistic target but the Red Devils could face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle. Ferrari's Replacement For The SF90 Will Be Wild
The Autoblog spy photographers have been very busy of late, and their most recent submission is a new Prancing Horse, reportedly carrying the internal codename Project F173M. This Ferrari 296 GTB forms the basis of the next SF90 Stradale, which probably won't be called that. Confused yet? Well, the 986-horsepower, V8 hybrid, AWD SF90 came first in 2019, then Ferrari created the 296 GTB with 819 ponies in 2022. The gulf between the two cars in terms of outright performance figures was much closer than it was with the F8 Tributo that the 296 effectively replaced, and combining these factors with the arrival of Lamborghini's own hybrid AWD supercar, the 1,001-hp Revuelto, compels Maranello to change things. And change they will. Our spies claim the SF90 nomenclature will stick around, but that's not Ferrari's way, renaming even cars that receive only subtle updates. And what about the arrival of the SF90 XX? It has been argued that this variant was only introduced to get SF90s out the door after declining sales, and whether that's fair or not, Ferrari has traditionally only applied the nomenclature at the very end of a generation. Will The SF90 Will Lose Two Cylinders? Ferrari has been embracing what was once its least-used engine configuration, the V6 now finding itself in the halo F80, a car that many expected to be powered by twice as many cylinders – but our spies claim the V8 and triple e-motor setup will remain. On the one hand, a lighter, more compact V6 could provide performance and efficiency benefits, but on the other, leaving the Roma-replacing Amalfi as the only V8 doesn't entirely make sense. The V8 clearly still meets emissions regulations, and with electric motors, it'll be even easier to maintain cleanliness. In addition, having two V6 AWD 1,000-hp offerings in one lineup seems redundant, though Ferrari could argue the more expensive car is more capable on track. Still, there's a curious detail about this mule: it's not an SF90 with temporary bodywork – it's a 296 GTB. Look at the mirror housings and roofline, and the glasshouse in general. The ridiculous offsets of the wheels are another clue. Far Away From Fiorano Our spies caught this prototype in Germany, which means that Ferrari can't comprehensively develop Project F173M at its Fiorano test track. Ferrari's miniature circuit still offers learning opportunities, but frankly, it's too short, too slow, too flat, and too smoothly surfaced to fully explore and expand a car's capabilities – descriptors that have never been applied to the Nürburgring. Looking at the front of the car, we see more reasoning for Ferrari's foray far beyond Italian borders: the areas where headlights would normally be found appear to have become much bigger air intakes, indicating a new aerodynamic approach. The extended rear end may be indicative of a longtail design, but again, this appears to be a 296 mule (179.7 inches), so it would need some prosthetic assistance to match the bigger SF90 (185.4 inches). Nonetheless, it's tough to be sure what has been done for performance reasons and what is changing due to stylistic considerations; Ferrari's latest evolution in design embraces hidden or minimized lighting systems, and with tiny slits for eyes, these could be placed or shaped in any way. His future Royal Ascot winning stablemate was backed off the boards down to 11/4 favourite to win a race the trainer has long coveted but it was Jordan Electrics who shone on the day with a 4 lengths 5th of 25 to this year's Curragh Group 2 second Lethal Levi. Injury delayed the now 9 year-old's comeback until last week's Class 2 return at York behind new Stewards' Cup favourite Elmonjed but stable apprentice Lauren Young did the steering on the old boy's return and Paul Mulrennan gets back on board at Goodwood. Despite looking ring-rusty in the closing stages on the Knavesmire, Jordan Electrics was only beaten six and a half lengths by the winner and ignoring the apprentice claim on the Goldie horse's first run back for TEN months, he'll be 5lbs better off with the York winner at Goodwood. NINE of his 16 wins have come at similarly undulating Hamilton and while that's a massive positive heading to Goodwood, his best Racing Post Rating was recorded at York last season with an excellent figure in the book at Ascot as well. Elmonjed was a 9/2 winner for this column at York last Saturday and I'll be saving on the Haggas horse at Goodwood but Jordan Electrics is a general 33/1 shot for a trainer in spectacular winning form at all levels and those who can shop around might find some of the 40 and 50/1 still available last night. Whatever the fate of Elmonjed in the big sprint, Haggas looks to have a great chance of a big-race Saturday winner with recent Hamilton scorer SAM HAWKENS up a lenient looking 4lbs in the £100,000 Summer Handicap over a mile and three quarters at 1.55. The 4 year-old doesn't do anything quickly and looks hard enough work for his rider but Tom Marquand and apprentice Harry Burns have got the better of him at Newcastle and Hamilton the last twice and Marquand gets back in the driving seat on Saturday. Joseph O'Brien took time out from Galway to land the first race at Goodwood with Omni Man and the trainer can strike again on Saturday with GOODIE TWO SHOES in the Lily Langtry Stakes at 2.30. The winning maiden hurdler didn't cut it over fences but she's been a revelation switched back to the Flat and this Group 2 is a natural progression after two Listed wins and her latest success in a Group 3. Tipster Aidan Coleman gives his best bets for the Galway Plate Jamie Spencer gave Charlie Johnson's ARISAIG a fantastic ride to win over a mile at Glorious Goodwood 12 months ago and the pair get back together for the £150,000 Coral Golden Mile at 2.30. The 4 year-old has bagged stall 9 in this 20-runner handicap and my selection's course form added to her recent staying on second at Sandown makes it easy to forgive her Royal Ascot run under Spencer from a poor draw away from the main action. Spencer could have an even better day if Khaadem puts his best foot forward in the King George V Stakes at 3.05 but I've had this race down for BIG MOJO all season and his latest July Cup second was a superb effort. Charlie Johnston can double up on the day with TRY STORM CAT in the nursery at 4.20 with the trainer diverting his other potential runner TIMEFORSHOWCASING to Newmarket's 2.10 on Saturday. SPIRIT OF JURA's been off so long her jockey's retired but Charlie Johnston's filly will be fit and ready for Hamilton's 7.0 in Saturday. Hayley Turner won 3 times on the 3 year-old between January and April and a 4lbs rise shouldn't stop the Masar filly making a winning switch to turf. HAVANA HURRICANE looked an unlucky loser in the big ales race at Newbury last time but compensation awaits in Goodwood's Richmond Stakes at 1.55. MERCHANT looks a short-priced banker in the Gordon Stakes at 2.30 and WHIRL can make it worth doubling up in the Nassau at 3.05. DELAHUNT DAILY Dysart Enos to win 4.30 Galway Johnny Burke won a Galway Plate on Shanahan's Turn 10 years ago and the now English-based rider can head home to add a Galway Hurdle on Fergal O'Brien's mare. Dysart Enos made the frame in the Cheltenham's Greatwood Hurdle and Ayr's Scottish Champion Hurdle last season but connections have always believed she can fly higher and today's turning 2 miles can prove them right. The 7 year-old warmed up with a close-up 4th in a Kempton novice over 11 furlongs and her 9 lengths Aintree bumper trouncing of subsequent Champion Hurdler Golden Ace continues to jump off the page. And the secret of Goldie's success is simple - his tried-and-tested homegrown hay. He said: 'We grow all our haylage here 'We've got around 30 acres of it, which gets us around 200 bales every year. 'It's not enough to feed all the horses on for the whole year, especially as we now have more of them. It does us for about three months. 'As we want to get them right for Ascot, we start them on it at the beginning of June, then carry on through July and August. 'I think it's a big reason why our horses are always in peak form during the summer months. 'It's all about getting them on a higher fibre diet. If you make their stomachs work properly, you get fewer problems. 'It's the same as any machine, you need to keep it well-oiled for it to work efficiently. Our haylage is that oil.' The worry for all of Goldie's rivals is he's already harvested an equally healthy crop for next summer. He added: 'We don't usually bale until into July. 'If you do it too soon, it becomes too rich and then the horses don't eat enough of it. 'Everything's organic, so it's weeds 'n all. We don't put any chemicals into it. Legendary horse trainer Edward O'Grady dies aged 75 just days after saddling his final runner 'We could fertilise it and then we'd maybe get 300 bales, but it wouldn't be as good. 'It's very natural and the horses love it. 'We've got a very good crop again this year. It's just about all baled and wrapped and ready to be stored for next summer.' Goldie bagged a breakthrough Group 1 success and first Royal Ascot strike when American Affair stormed to glory at last month's showpiece fixture. The Renfrewshire ace quickly followed that up by passing the 1,000 winner mark on the Flat. He sends three runners to tonight's Racing League fixture at Wolverhampton as he chases another personal milestone of an 18th winner for the month. But for once he's not overflowing with confidence about the chances of Eternal Sunshine (5.45), Oriental Prince (7.15) or Midnight Lion (8.45) adding to Scotland's flying start under new captain Alex Steedman in last Thursday's League opener at Yamourth. Goldie said: 'I think it will be hard. But the prize money is that good, you have to have a go.' ED'S HEAD TURNER NORTHERN stalwarts David Chapman, David 'Dandy' Nicholls and Paul Midgley were all dubbed the Sprint King for a time.
