Chiefs scouting report: Virginia Tech Hokies CB Dorian Strong
The Kansas City Chiefs need to examine the cornerbacks available in the 2025 NFL draft to prepare their roster for the future. Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams become free agents after the upcoming season, which creates a need for new faces in the secondary.
Virginia Tech standout Dorian Strong is 6'0 5/8″, 179 lbs. but punches above his weight in press coverage. He delivers firm one and two-handed punches to re-route receivers or force them to stall at the line of scrimmage. This provides the defense with a huge advantage, considering most NFL-caliber quarterbacks throw the ball in under three seconds.
Strong's patient footwork helps him mirror the receiver's release. He quickly gets into phase on the receiver's hip and uses mid-route collision to gradually grind down routes. Strong compresses outside releases along the sideline and smothers inside releases with his physicality and tight coverage.
Virginia Tech DB Dorian Strong deserves some more love.
Quick, fluid, instinctive corner that can really run who is also competitive as a run defender. I think he shows that in Mobile next week. pic.twitter.com/uzrtB1qfSj

Strong understands leverage at a high level, which makes him an asset in man coverage. He showcases a strong understanding of his help coverage when operating in zones. Strong pinches throwing lanes to deter quarterbacks from targeting his side of the field.
Strong lacks the consistent technique to stack and shed blocks, but he occasionally wins with swipes. He quickly diagnoses and attacks wide receiver screens, either making the play or forcing the pass catcher inside toward pursuing defenders.
Strong's arm length and lean frame present some physical limitations. His punch accuracy and power in press need to improve. Strong lacks the twitch to mirror smaller receivers, and his speed makes him vulnerable to explosive field stretchers.
Most analysts list Strong as an early fourth-round prospect. The cornerback depth in this draft class should lead to a run on corners in the fourth round. That means the Chiefs must select Strong with their second selection in the third round.

Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival
Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills have had a lot of question marks at wide receiver over the past few years. The Bills have had more than a few costly departures, from brought in talent such as Stephon Diggs and homegrown talent such as Gabe Davis. Advertisement Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bills. In his four seasons in Buffalo, Davis tallied 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bills did not extend Davis beyond his rookie deal, leading to him signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $39 million contract. Davis struggled in Jacksonville's offense, only catching 20 of his 42 targets and posting 239 yards and two touchdowns. Davis' season was cut short by a torn meniscus in his left knee, only playing in 10 games. The Jaguars released Davis after the season, and he is currently looking for a new home: a home, reportedly, also in the AFC. Advertisement ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Davis is taking a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. "Sources: Former Bills and Jaguars WR Gabe Davis is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday." Schefter posted on X. The Steelers are looking to add playmakers and pass catchers, and Davis is as good of a bounce-back candidate as they can get. "Pittsburgh has been seeking additional receiving help and has inquired about, but is not expected to trade for, Miami TE Jonnu Smith." Shefter added. Davis earned the nickname "Big Game Gabe" during his tenure in Buffalo. He had a number of standout performances for the Bills, namely in the playoffs. Advertisement In the Bills' overtime thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Divisional Round, Davis was the star of the game, despite the loss. Davis tallied 201 yards and four touchdowns on just eight receptions, having one of the greatest playoff performances in Bills' history. His heroics in the divisional game marked just the ninth time a player has recorded 200+ receiving yards in a playoff game, and the first time a receiver has hauled in four touchdowns. Bengals Move Joe Burrow Schedule Amid Hendrickson Controversy
Maybe it's all a coincidence ... just like the Cincinnati Bengals having selected Texas A&M pass rusher Shemar Stewart in the 2025 NFL Draft had nothing to do with the foreshadowing the team's plan for current edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. But the timing of a new Joe Burrow move is certainly notable. Advertisement Hendrickson is desirous of a hefty contract extension with the Bengals after his fourth year in Cincy. He topped the NFL in sacks last year with 17.5, meeting that total now in back-to-back seasons. Is Cincy giving up on him? Doubtful. Even with the young addition in Stewart. But Cincy is pulling the plug on negotiations, Hendrickson is now claiming, adding that the Bengals essentially lied to him about their plans to up his salary. "The (contract) offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level,'' Hendrickson tells ESPN. "Coaches are aware of these past conversations.'' Advertisement And, as things have turned ugly, Bengals QB Joe Burrow - who has been vocal and supportive of the idea of management paying to keep the gang together - is in the news due to a schedule change. Burrow was initially scheduled to speak with local reporters on Tuesday. But in the wake of this statement from Hendrickson - maybe just coincidentally - the Bengals have told local reporters that they have pushed the press conference to Tuesday, May 20. Maybe by then ... the Hendrickson heat will have cooled? The player is asserting that the Bengals have shut down talks altogether. ... and he's obviously angry about it. Advertisement "Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating,'' he said. "I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that's hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals. The Athletic recently reported that things were moving in the right direction. That is clearly not quite accurate, as the claim that they are "getting really good vibes coming out of Cincy that they're going to try to get a deal done with Trey'' does not jibe at all with this news. Like he has done for past deals, quarterback Burrow is adding to the "good vibes" by campaigning to keep Hendrickson with the Bengals. Advertisement Cincinnati was able to sign Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. ... and Burrow would love to talk about those deals, no doubt. And eventually, he will. But not now. Maybe just due to a coincidence. Related: Hendrickson Releases Angry Statement As Bengals Fans Panic

ESPN Trade Proposal Sends Trey Hendrickson to Bills
ESPN Trade Proposal Sends Trey Hendrickson to Bills originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills are in an arms race with the rest of the AFC, but they are also in a race against time. Super Bowl windows don't last forever, and while having Josh Allen under center means it won't slam shut, each passing season increases the likelihood that one of the titans of the sport walks away empty-handed. Advertisement As such, urgency remains high in Orchard Park. The Bills clearly aren't afraid to acquire talent via trade or signing. Twice, Buffalo has acquired post-prime edge rushers to chase down the conference's best quarterbacks. However, signing Joey Bosa isn't necessarily enough to get over the hump, especially after an offseason injury clouded his production. That lends itself to additional speculation, including a recent brainstorm from ESPN, linking Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. The Bills' hypothetical trade proposal lands the final piece of a championship defense for just a 2026 second-round pick. 'The Bengals have made it clear they don't want to give away Hendrickson, so I'm not even sure the Bills' (likely late) second-rounder would be enough,' ESPN said of Dan Graziano's offer. 'But if the Bengals' demands drop, I could see Buffalo pouncing to secure the veteran edge rusher it needs to take down Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. Advertisement 'With offseason pickup Joey Bosa already injured, this move would help the Bills' pass rush add a stronger, healthier option. Hendrickson might not get the new contract of his dreams, but perhaps Bills general manager Brandon Beane could sell him on an improved chance to get to the Super Bowl.' The biggest obstacle to this deal getting across the finish line is the balance of power in the AFC. Like Buffalo, Cincinnati is dangerous – no matter what – with quarterback Joe Burrow. It took an act of Godly sabotage to make a defense so bad a season ago, and the Bengals aren't incentivized to make one of their main competitors even better while making their defense worse. However, pairing Hendrickson with Gregory Rousseau along the edge with two quality starters between them at tackle would be Buffalo's best attempt at mirroring the Philadelphia Eagles, who beat Kansas City in the trenches to win the Super Bowl. The Bills have a quarterback capable of going toe-to-toe with the best player in the sport. It is worth paying for a defense that can do the same.
