Bills Top Rookie Offers Good News Scouting Report in Camp
When the Buffalo Bills drafted Dorian Strong in the sixth round out of Virginia Tech two weeks ago, the team was hoping he could be another late-round steal that the team has become accustomed to enjoying. Back in 2022, the Bills drafted Christian Benford in the sixth round after already having selected Kaiir Elam with their first round pick in that same draft. Benford ended up being the better player, and worthy of a long-term extension this offseason. Advertisement Could the Bills be going through that again? Unlike Elam was back in his rookie year, 30th overall pick Maxwell Hairston is welcoming the challenge of a late-round contender in Strong. While speaking with the media, Hairston offered a scouting report of sorts on camp and said fellow cornerback Dorian Strong had a good day during Bills rookie camp, while also adding the two will "lean on each other and help each other get through this process." "Dorian Strong had a really good day today, just being somebody that, you know, I'm taking mental reps when I watch D. Strong. Seeing him go out there and play with poise and play like he's already adjusted, that was good to see." Advertisement Healthy competition is always important in the NFL. It separates the great teams from the mediocre and can help crown champions early on in the season. For the Bills, more competition means a better defense moving forward. And a chance to finally put an end to the Kansas City Chiefs' run of excellence in the conference. Report: Saints host Virginia Tech playmaking cornerback Dorian Strong on top 30 visit
Report: Saints host Virginia Tech playmaking cornerback Dorian Strong on top 30 visit This is interesting -- the New Orleans Saints hosted Virginia Tech cornerback Dorian Strong on an official 30 visit this week, per 247 Sports' Easton Butler. He's a unique prospect. While Strong has NFL size at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, he timed the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds and posted so-so numbers in the broad and vertical jump. You'd like to see someone at that weight be a little more explosive with an extra gear at the top of his sprint. For what it's worth, Zebra Sports tracking found that he was one of the fastest players on the field at Senior Bowl practices back in January, reaching a top speed of 21.36 miles per hour. That should matter more to NFL evaluators than his 40 time. But he did exceptionally well in the agility drills, which results in an 8.33 Relative Athletic Score. That should clear the thresholds the Saints have valued over the last decade. Strong appeared in 53 games with the Hokies since 2020, totaling 7 interceptions and 28 pass breakups in his career. He also recovered three fumbles, forced another one, and was credited with 112 combined tackles. He's eager to compete in press coverage but has done his best work out of zone looks, which Brandon Staley has favored as a defensive play caller. So we've got a tall, long corner with ball skills who runs better in pads than he does at the combine. That'll work. He's expected to be picked late in Round 3 or early in Round 4, where the Saints own picks (for now) at Nos. 93 and 112.

Chiefs scouting report: Virginia Tech Hokies CB Dorian Strong
The Kansas City Chiefs need to examine the cornerbacks available in the 2025 NFL draft to prepare their roster for the future. Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams become free agents after the upcoming season, which creates a need for new faces in the secondary. Virginia Tech standout Dorian Strong is 6'0 5/8″, 179 lbs. but punches above his weight in press coverage. He delivers firm one and two-handed punches to re-route receivers or force them to stall at the line of scrimmage. This provides the defense with a huge advantage, considering most NFL-caliber quarterbacks throw the ball in under three seconds. Strong's patient footwork helps him mirror the receiver's release. He quickly gets into phase on the receiver's hip and uses mid-route collision to gradually grind down routes. Strong compresses outside releases along the sideline and smothers inside releases with his physicality and tight coverage. Virginia Tech DB Dorian Strong deserves some more love. Quick, fluid, instinctive corner that can really run who is also competitive as a run defender. I think he shows that in Mobile next week. — Ryan Fowler (@_RyanFowler_) January 22, 2025 Strong understands leverage at a high level, which makes him an asset in man coverage. He showcases a strong understanding of his help coverage when operating in zones. Strong pinches throwing lanes to deter quarterbacks from targeting his side of the field. Strong lacks the consistent technique to stack and shed blocks, but he occasionally wins with swipes. He quickly diagnoses and attacks wide receiver screens, either making the play or forcing the pass catcher inside toward pursuing defenders. Strong's arm length and lean frame present some physical limitations. His punch accuracy and power in press need to improve. Strong lacks the twitch to mirror smaller receivers, and his speed makes him vulnerable to explosive field stretchers. Most analysts list Strong as an early fourth-round prospect. The cornerback depth in this draft class should lead to a run on corners in the fourth round. That means the Chiefs must select Strong with their second selection in the third round.
